Dan Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 With Matt Mills Would have been worse IMO. The fact it was with a clause that would've lead to it breaking our transfer record, but didn't, says it all. I think you'll do well to find a club who is so consistent at their biggest money signings being their poorer ones as us. Pretty sure if Pearson spends a lot on a player it'll be worth it.
Stadt Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 I wouldn't put it past Pearson to spend 15 million on one player and get a few frees in.
Monk Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 I would expect Pearson to spend wisely - reckon he'd be more likely to bring in another player from abroad rather than a prem loanee or reject. We will definitely need strength in depth and with uncertainty over GTF and Phillips maybe we will need another player of that type.
Grewks Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Remember - Walsh was the guy that advised mourinho to buy drogba and essien, as well as the likes of Zola and Tore Andre flo before them. There's not too many better scouts in the country really. AS others have said, a similar approach to Hull's deals would be likely. They paid just under £20 million to sign 3 premier league quality players in jelavic, long and huddlestone. I would expect Nige (well walsh really) to look abroad though, and wouldn't be surprised to see us sign a 'cabaye/drogba' like gem. Maybe even look to italy and spain given the poor finances of the leagues over there.
dedlock Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Who knows? If we become an established PL club we will. Living in the NW London suburbs, I have had conversations with Spurs fans which remind me when City received and wasted big money for a player. For Bale read Heskey.. I suspect we have a managerial team at the club now who will get better value with whatever funds are available.
dorsetboy Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 im not so sure to be honest i by the things i have read and interveiws pearson has given he has spent the last 2-3 years building a team that will not only get promotion but will also be able to make the grade to the prem. therefore i think he will give the current squad a go until maybe xmas with a few cover signings in the summer at around maybe 2-3 million tops for one player. should we be struggling come jan then i think the thais will break out the war chest and pearson will go for top quality players to hopefully keep us up
dog_4 Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Joleon Lescott free,Bertrand £5m, Mark Davies £5m,Tom Ince Nominal fee (out of contract) and the serbian striker from FC Nante who is out of contract. Those 5 are quality!
ramadaone Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 How much do you think Tom Carroll from Spurs would cost ....
Eddy Kellys Heroes Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 A keeper, defender, midfielder and a striker, minimum.
Stadt Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 How much do you think Tom Carroll from Spurs would cost ....Because he's English - loads. If Sherwood is still there he won't sell him because he's young and Sherwood thinks he'll be really good because FIFA 14 says do.
lgfualol Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Yes but not by much. I imagine NP will not go too wild.
Grewks Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 How much do you think Tom Carroll from Spurs would cost .... he's crap.
Soar Fox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 How much do you think Tom Carroll from Spurs would cost .... Is that a hint that you know something?
Soar Fox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 I wouldn't put it past Pearson to spend 15 million on one player and get a few frees in. Whatever makes you think Pearson would spend £15 million on one player? He doesn't strike me as the type of manager that would spend that much on one player.
whoareyaaa Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 I think we will sign two key players with experience so I can see us breaking the transfer record quite easily. Pearson won't go crazy though I think we will bring in 5 or 6 players at the most with the others coming in for low fees, can see us dabbling in the loan market as well.
leicesterseddon Posted 22 March 2014 Posted 22 March 2014 It's highly likely - £5.5m is small beer in the Premier League these days - we have to remember how long it's been since we were last there and how things have changed. That said, if we do break the record it'll probably only be on one player.
MPH Posted 22 March 2014 Posted 22 March 2014 Bendtner? Nah. Not him. Younger. Think he went Cardiff and flopped. But Nige was interested I think....
Foxfromburbage Posted 22 March 2014 Posted 22 March 2014 Reading through the posts its good to see that in the main we feel comfortable with Nigel being economical and not splashing the cash but using our scouting network to get the men we need. I personally don't want some overpaid jerk wearing our shirt. Refreshing outlook guys Up the foxes !
Culletonfox Posted 22 March 2014 Posted 22 March 2014 Yes he will for a striker, other positions will me cheaper bargains IMO. We need another LB, RB, goal keeper and a striker
RizLCFC Posted 22 March 2014 Posted 22 March 2014 I think we'll go for McCormack or even Rhodes, and they will cost more than £5.5m.
