tylesta Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 I think it's in the rules that you have to have 15% for away fans. im sure manu give 3000 which aint 15%
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Adding an extra tier you'd imagine would cost circa £5million. Very rough sums: 10,000 extra seats at £30 = £300,000 on top of the gate receipts every time we sell out meaning that you'd need about 17 sell-outs before the expansion pays for itself. With games against Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal in the Premier League, four seasons in the top flight and you'd probably have re-couped the money you'd paid out to do it. Having seen our attendances swell since we got promoted I don't think it's unfeasable that we could quite regularly have attendances of 30,000+ in the Premier League given that away attendances will also be higher (with an expansion we could even have a regular away end of 5,000). I'm all for it. Firstly it gives us the potential of bigger crowds when needed, secondly it would make our stadium a little different in terms of design, thirdly our stadium would be the best in the East Midlands and the go-to for any large sporting events (World Cup bids, England matches, Olympics etc) and finally it would allow for the expansion of L/K block - imagine a further 2,000 added on to the numbers already in L/K, there's your atmosphere problem solved!
NORFOLK FOX Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 From what i remember the stadium was designed to be able to put a second tier on top of the stands with minimum cost and building costs with this situation in mind
Istilllovefilbert Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Love all the ideas and all for them. What I recall after we hosted that England game was the worry about traffic around the area. Parking sucks

Parking sucks Huge issue that needs addressing, I guess it's more of a council issue than the clubs though? They'd need to work together.
promised land Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 What are they going to build on it? I have heard they're putting those elephants up on the roof, one on each side all facing the same way to bring us luck.

PAULCFC Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 We get roughly 23000 ish at the moment.Lets wait until we've got people waiting outside(anyone remember the Cambridge playoff game) before we make a white elephant....look at Wolves.
davieG Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Just the east stand was designed with extending in mind. Based on the parking situation they probably wouldn't get planning permission ad the original build stipulated a comprehensive matchdsy park and ride which I don't believe they've done.

Are you a building surveyor? Have you any idea of costs, £5 mill goes absolutely nowhere on builds like that, also there won't be any World Cup bids for a long long time now, Olympics will never return in our lifetime again and England matches have to be played at Wembley because it went way over budget and needs paying back. Then when we go back down to the second tier it will look like Elland Roads stand where no one sits in it for years. Not a big enough club or city to have a massive stadium, ours is right for where we are.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 No point in extending it while it looks so shabby for a stadium that's little more than a decade old. Sort the dirty and exposed framework out, strengthen the stands for concerts, tidy up the concourses and replace the faded seats in the stadium.
sdb Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 We don't sell out games so why add 8,000 odd seats. Surely wait until we're established in the Prem anyway?

Not a big enough club or city to have a massive stadium, ours is right for where we are. I am not, which is why I said I would imagine.... But the stadium cost circa £35million to be built from scratch which is about £48million in today's terms I believe so, seeing as the stadium design was such that this expansion could be done quickly and cheaply (with the foundations already in place), I don't see why a £5million figure is such a wild estimate in your eyes - Bristol City and Brentford plan to build completely new stadiums for under £50million Who's to say that FIFA won't be forced to re-open the bidding process for the Qatar World Cup? Or that the Olympics won't be back given the success of London 2012? Or that we won't bid for a Euros?! You never know! In terms of England I was thinking more England under-21 and England women's team or tournaments. Look at the rugby World Cup, having a great stadium in a very well-located part of the country makes us a major attraction for any sporting event, a larger capacity can only increase that attraction. Personally, I couldn't care less if we get relegated and have empty seats. We've had opposition fans singing that at us for years in both this league and League One and I think the more important thing is that when you have the chance fill your stadium you can do so with a huge crowd, how many do you think we could sell for Doncaster on the last day?! Far more than 32,500 that's for sure. When I go to Leeds I don't think it's horrible that there are loads of empty seats, instead I think what an impressive large ground they have and that one day that club will be back in the top flight filling that ground and being one of English football's biggest clubs.
Fox92 Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 There's no doubt we can attract a few more, but I think we need to be a solid premier league team first.
whitlock Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Wouldn't it look a bit daft? Just one tiered stand?
lavrentis Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Time to build on it aye, demolish it first then start from scratch.
TrentFox Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Despite how many times I've been to rhe KP I now can't picture the front of each stand !! But wouldn't it be feasible and cheaper and quicker to add a row or possibly two all the way around the front of each stand if some extra capacity were required ? What would that give is ? Another one or two thousand ?
Itsthejoeker Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 My guess would be that they'll add a tier on the back of either the east or west stand.
SystonFox Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Firstly swap the kop and family stand! Surely this has been mentioned before?
Kitchandro Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Wouldn't it look a bit daft? Just one tiered stand? Like Elland Road?
Kitchandro Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 No point in extending it while it looks so shabby for a stadium that's little more than a decade old. Sort the dirty and exposed framework out, strengthen the stands for concerts, tidy up the concourses and replace the faded seats in the stadium. And after that, build rows in front of the stands to make them much closer to the pitch, essential in any decent stadium. Following that, we need to actively support safe standing and get a section put in ASAP. In the long term, we should slowly transform the stadium, one stand at a time, to make it unique and atmospheric. The capacity does not need increasing by a significant amount, but we certainly need to be playing in a much prouder, impressive ground. That's what I'd concentrate on, anyway.
ScouseFox Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 god i hope they don't end up building us a 45k seater stadium for us to sell 20k for a midweek game against barnsley in a few years.
Weller in Tights Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 In my dreams??? Re-build Filbert Street. Have the old double decker with the Kop underneath, (with newly approved German-style safe-standing). To increase capacity, have a big stand at the Filbert street end. But keep the shitty East Stand for the away fans. I loved the way away fans thought of it as a urinal, that's all they deserved.
Guest bss9401 Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 A rising tier like Eastlands, with improved facilities would be sensible. In the PL I think that we could attract 35-40000 for the glamour fixtures. Just think how many times we took 35000ish to Wembley in the 90's.
Foxes_Trust Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Additional capacity cannot be added within a middle of May to early August timeframe, therefore to do it would result in reduced capacity for part of a season. The club would be crazy to do that the first season back in the Premiership. On going season ticket sales will answer the question in the long term. Currently less than 50% of the ground capacity is taken by season ticket holders
