Google it mate - plenty of info. With no fee, i doubt they would baulk at 55k

I did and I still don't think 55k is realistic, especially for a player that has made only 8 top flight appearances and has 3 full international caps.

As I said in my original post, I still think he'll be a City player come the start of the season.

Even if we are able to buy a decent new keeper for £3m then that's already £20k a week when you split it down over a 3 year contract

Think you are missing the point transfer fee's we will have to pay for anyone we sign unless on a free.

If we don't buy a keeper and pay kasper 55k then all the other players will want 55k.

If the 30k a week max is true we can't break it for one.

but thats the whole thing about contracts and whether you allow yours to run down.  kasper can expect a sizeable resigning fee without upsetting the other players. they all have the option to do this or take the chance that when their contracts run out, no one might be interested (and if they are, they might not be prepared to pay what we had offered them). like i said before, if we want to keep him and he wants to stay, a deal will be done which doesnt upset any structure that might exist. of course, none of us know if the two questions have a positive answer.

I am with you and understand that totally. My point was to HL who was trying to make it sound like a transfer fee is like wages.

It is not it goes to the selling club not the player.

And yes Kasper can get a signing on fee but he will get that if he goes to Arsenal or where ever.

The situation with Kasper is different to other players in that if most the rest of the team want big wages they won't be able to go elsewhere to get them (yet). Kasper probably could. Not sure I'd be paying £55k but it probably isn't unrealistic for him to expect nearer £40k from us, and more elsewhere. He'd also get a sizable signing on fee elsewhere so the pressure is on us to match potentially.

If he wants to leave, good riddance. I've got no time for money grabbers and he's already on 20k a week, I'd understand if he was on my wage. Offer him one contract and if he says no let him go, we can get someone better now we are Premier League.

But you can pay that in many different ways - signing fee, lump sum ,etc.

I agree it doesn't set a great precedent but the reality of the situation is that if you spend a few million on a decent keeper then you're already paying £20-30k a week without including their wages. Dress that up however you want

I think to do well in the prem you should set a cap at about 50k a week, that is if you set a cap at all.

30K is £1.5m a year. Why get greedy?

Kasper, I think, will go where the money is.

Is that the general opinion of the whole Crumbie Stand or just yourself?

Ok I'll try this once more yes the transfer fee could work out at 30k a week and the player earns 30k a week total 60k a week.

But the player earns 30k not breaking our supposed pay structure so the rest of the squad can't walk into NP's office and demand a payrise.

The transfer fee is not the players wages and you could praps sell him at a proffit in 18 months or 2 years.

I don't understand this 'if he wants more money let him go' mentalitly.

Pay him what he's worth (market value) or more importantly his worth to the club, if his worth to the club is less than market value then we run the risk of him leaving - if we pay him the marlet value and he leaves to go elsewhere then we are entitled to be disappointed.

Remember, however well he's done for us, if he'd broken his leg last month and faced 6-12 months out, would we want him?? So he's entitled to hold out for the right deal.

lol It is only my opinion.

If you were offered another £20,000 per annum for doing the same job, what would you do?

We should not break our wage structure (What ever it is) for anyone, If Kasper is not happy with the new offer, that's sad, but he is most certainly replaceable.

what if 'market value' is driven by badly run 'businesses' which flirt with destruction and make massive losses?

Because £2.5m a year is better than £1.5m a year?

assuming they lose lallana and shaw, (and their manager), next year could be quite a struggle. at least he will be busier there than staying with us!  there must be better places to go than there??  if we dont agree terms with him then i suspect its becasue we dont think he is worth it.  we have to trust the management on this.
