I genuinely think money won't play a big part in his next decision. He's not that type of guy. If he wanted money and not football he would have moved last season where he could have doubled- at least - his pay cheque. He's not a mercenary type player.

Do we know anyone was actually trying to sign him and that they were offering to double his salary?

do we know marshall's contractual situation? i rather doubt cardiff would want to sell. they will have other players they will offload first. but i would be happy for him to come here if kasper wants to go.

If he leaves get David Marshall in when Cardiff get relegated. Top, top keeper.

Agreed... but if we've set a fairly tight wage structure I doubt Marshall will fit in with that. He's had a banging season and we obviously aren't the only ones that will have noticed. He's gonna get some big offers if and when Cardiff make him available!

Wouldn't make sense for him to leave, he stated he wasn't going to negotiate a new contract because he wanted Premier League football, to leave after being with us for 3 years practically a few days after that has become a reality would be stupid. Don't see why we couldn't give him 40k+ a week with a release/pay cut clause if we get relegated. This wage cap is great in principle but if he goes on a free and we fork out a few million quid for a replacement and 30k a week on top, would make a lot more sense to pay him an extra £0.5-£1m next season, surely?

I hope he stays long term however unlikely. Either way I don't think we'll ever get a fee for him, my mystic ball tells me he'll only sign a one year deal

Schmeichel has enjoyed a brilliant season at Leicester but could be tempted to move away amid indications the club will look to implement a wage cap.

But Pearson hopes his relationship with the 27-year-old will prove decisive.

‘I’ve been informed that there’s been speculation,’ he said. ‘That goes with the fact he’s had an exceptionally good season. He’s a talented goalkeeper and it doesn’t surprise me.

‘But he’s a key player for us and I’d love to keep him. I’ve spoken to Kasper on a number of occasions and talks are ongoing. We have an exceptionally good relationship, player to manager, and all I can say is the player knows exactly how much I want to keep him.’

Someone like Southampton , as they have now been in the prem could offer him a few more quid than our supposed wage cap is... its wether he would benefit from moving to them..... The intresting thing of course is they could be losing their manager to Tottenham as they seem to be sniffing round Ponchettino or whatever hes called....

So, as far as we know in England, its the top clubs who could offer him more money too. But to play back up football. As much as i rate him i Don't think he is champiuons leage quality. Yet.

The signs for me all point towards him signing a new deal. Its not just his ability  thats important to me, He knows our club, knows our defence and for our first season back in the prem i think a bit of continuity between our GK and defence could be vitally important... Sure, Nigel could find a decent keeper to replace him but he wouldnt have the same  understanding of How Wes and Was play and i think that could be pivitol in the first few games especially.

Keeping Casper, I feel, Is important . for more reasons than just his ability.

Kasper Schmeichel: Leicester begin contract talks with keeper

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel says he has had preliminary talks about a new contract with promoted Leicester City.

The 27-year-old Denmark international reaches the end of his deal with the Foxes in the summer.

When asked about his contract situation by BBC Radio Leicester, he said: "It's up to the club at the moment. We've had some preliminary conversations.

"Of course I want to stay. We've got to the Premier League and I'm happy here, but it's not up to me."

Schmeichel, whose father Peter lifted 15 trophies in eight years with Manchester United, played a key role as Nigel Pearson's side won the Championship title by nine points.

The former Manchester City, Notts County and Leeds United man, who has been at Leicester since 2011, was an ever-present in their league campaign, conceding 43 goals in their 46 matches.

Revealed on the moan in.

No contract offer yet.

Talks have taken place but nothing concrete yet.

Where do people stand on this.

For me I actually agree with stringer. We won promotion 6 weeks ago.

Surely the at that point the club should have decided what wage and length of deal they wanted to offer.

The fact there has been no offer seems a little odd.

You would be worried if Kasper is the only player out of contract, the fact there is 8 players and even the manager is out of contract (isn't he?) then there is nothing to worry about, all will be sorted.

This is what this whole trip to Thailand is about so they can hold the players at ransom and refuse to let them return until they sign for £1000 a week
