Guest MattP Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 He didn't look miles out of his depth in the three games against Manchester City? And the Premier League has it's fair share of shit, slow, right backs. He'd be more than adequate back-up. He did well but let's not get carried away, it was Man City but it was also Boyata at right back not Zabaleta or Micah Richards and a heavily deflected goal when City were playing like they were back on the bus. If he signs his year deal fair play but I think we'll need better options, some people are underestimating fitness levels as well, these are highly conditioned athletes, Sagna, Zaba, Johnson, Azpa etc are actually just as quick these days in the 84th min as the first, I'd even say RDL is. I think the 'knackered full back' is something of a myth these days.

It was a few years ago granted, but he was great against them at the Etihad and Zabaleta was starting that night. And as I say, second top scorer and third most assists this year, he's not even started very many games since Mahrez arrived.

Yeah big difference there, he's getting into his 30's now so could deteriorate at pretty much any point. He has had a great season, we all know that, though the fact we still replaced him when given the opportunity to sign a player of Mahrez's quality probably says our management know his limitations.

Haha yeh because Zabaleta did his hamstring in 5mins after kick off trying to keep up with him As for people saying pace is not enough - Nathan Dyer has done alright. It is if you are to be deployed largely as an impact sub and it's Dyer's strongest asset. If he goes there will be a few situations next season where he would so clearly have been useful but we will no longer have him. He is good enough for a premiership squad but perhaps not a starting birth anymore.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Do you honestly think Dyer is Premiership standard - honestly? Is Wayne Routledge? George Boyd? Damien Delaney? Alex Bruce? Danny Gabbidon? All have been successful this season. The bottom half of the Premier League is nothing spectacular, and Lloyd will still give plenty or tired right backs problems in the last 20 minutes of games. You obviously have some sort of problem with him so logical argument like this will have no effect.

inckley fox Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Dyer was an important man for us in his first two, and final two, seasons. He turns 32 this year so I suspect the pace which has defined his career, but which would probably not have been enough to make him a major player in the top tier, will desert him before long. That said, had he been at Forest this season, failed to go up, and a newly promoted top flight club had come in for him - be it on a one year deal or lesser wages - you would have expected the player to jump at the chance. So it doesn't make a great deal of sense. His demeanour on the lap of honour, his refusal of the 1 year, even his strop when he was taken off after a lacklustre game (against Ipswich, was it?) suggest a change in attitude towards the club. Under Sven, while on a healthy contract, he was keen to hang on. He could be saying 'look, I've seen you lot from the 3rd tier to the top - you owe me'. But we can't afford to have many players disgruntled with a squad role, which is what he's likely to have. I'd guess it's down to (a) doubting he will get in the side and wanting to play as much as he can or (b) a feeling that he deserves more from us. IF it's the latter, and I hope it isn't, he should remember that back in 07-08 he was playing in the 4th tier, and the club has played its role in transforming his career. If it's the former, then I'd understand him going (don't forget Walshy joined Cov after leaving, so if he goes to Forest he's in good company as far as 'betrayals' go!).

He'll be up against shite like Lowton, Ryan Bennett, Tiendalli, Gabiddon more of the time though.
Buzzell Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 1 year extension with a club that loves you and the chance to play in the PL and against some of the worlds best players...... Or.... Leave on a free and probably end up at Forest where you're career will come to an almighty end with nothing but disappointment. Do the right thing Lloyd. :lloydy:
justfoxes Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Hmmm, been a member 2 weeks ? Plastic trollOr a forest fan ??Ridiculous comment Lloyd dyer ripped a new ass out of most teams he's also scored some spectacular goals and set up goals after blistering runs and must have done something to have a top premier side like man city put 3 players on him at time and foul the hell out of him so yeah that prob makes him crap !! I for one would like to see him have a go in the prem !!
Bert Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Great news. Time to get the rest tied down now. Would love Lloyd to get a deal. He's not going to start every game but he will be a great impact player. Pearson is very much a pro squad person and if he signs that's what Dyer will be. Who would've thought Alex Bruce would be able to hack it in the prem?

Who would've thought Alex Bruce would be able to hack it in the prem? Yes but Dyer is nearly 32 and his game revolves around his pace; an attribute which frequently deserts players as early as the late 20s (remember an interview with Giggs where he said at 28 he had to work a lot harder to maintain fitness and pace than he did a year or two earlier). Bruce is a defender, not so dependent on his pace, and 29. The PL is also a significantly quicker league than the Championship, his pace is unlikely to give him the monumental head start that he needs, given his failings elsewhere. I'd prefer him to stay, yes, but only if he wants to stay. He could be a decent impact player, but I agree with the suggestion that his acceleration isn't what it was. It's likely that a long season has played its part in that, but likelier still that the years are starting to take their toll.
Riyad_Suarez Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 I still think Dyer has something to offer us in all honesty, he's a good plan B to have in games when things aren't working out on the wings, he's still git a fair bit of pace about him, and, of all the players we've had play in cup competitions against Premiership opposition he's always been one of our players to come away with a lot of credit. It's a shame he won't settle for a 12 month contract as that would be ideal for us imo.
seenitall Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Oh dear - when will this eternal belief that acing a crap division makes you Premier League class end - Lloyd is the brightest of the bunch - he is a good player at this level and can get himself regular football next year off the back of a successful season this year = intelligence. Nugent signing for us = good deal for him but woeful for us - if he gets 5 open play goals in the Prem it will be akin to a miracle - should sign for Bolton while he has the chance
Guest MattP Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 One I think we can all agree on regardless of opinion on his ability is that if he chooses to sign a two year deal with Forest rather than a one year deal with us it would be quite disappointing. I can understand a player wanting security but a season in a Premier squad would do his bargaining position no harm and financially in the long run I doubt it would make too much difference. Surely the bloke wants a crack at the top flight.

Agent Fox Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Do you honestly think Dyer is Premiership standard - honestly? Is half of Palace's squad Prem standard? If Nugent gets more than two years I think I will collapse into a heap and cry! Get Pearson and Kasper tied down. Lloyd - WHAT ARE YOU DOING??
Jace Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Dyer will not be missed. He would be an embarrassment in the Prem. Good to see you back Ben hows Blackburn?
weller54 Posted 7 May 2014 Posted 7 May 2014 I agree, let Dyer go.. His loss not ours.. We'll sign a better alternative on the left wing!.. Dyer has pace, or did have!... That's it!.. Forest are welcome to his last couple of years of diminishing pace!!
C-man Posted 7 May 2014 Posted 7 May 2014 Lloyd has scored against Man City (I think), Fulham and Real Madrid. Saying that he's not good enough for the Prem is almost as lunatic as me suggesting that he is based on goals against the three aforementioned teams. You simply have no idea.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 7 May 2014 Posted 7 May 2014 Will be sorry to see Dyer go but we have Schlupp who can easily replace Dyer assuming we sign a new left back.
