Freeman's Wharfer Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 Wow people on this board are exceptional. The bloke has played from the bench and done very well for us. Scored a few, assisted a few in a short space of time and always looks a threat. Are we really such in an image-centric culture that the way a bloke looks depicts how they should be viewed as a player? It is shameful. It's not about how he looks, it's about how he moves. The truth of the matter is that he is not mobile enough to play in The Premiership. Some players who are too old/not natural athletes can get away with it in The Championship through experience or positioning but at the next level up they would struggle. It just happens that the way GTF looks (fat) also impacts on the way that he plays. The fact that he's been a bit-part player in The Championship should tell you everything that you need to know about whether he is Premiership standard.
ScouseFox Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 pearson and the team must think he's good enough. he will not be on major dolla, it's only a one year deal and he won't play if he's not good enough. not worth having a cry about.
sylofox Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 So after gally and bell end and NP cleared the decks we have learn't fvck all. Yes he has done a job and come on a few times. but we give a contract to a bench player that never played. If he can't make the first team at his age in the championship he should be gone not get a new contract. This must be a fvcking joke right?
Mark_w Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 I hear Solskjaer might be looking for a new job soon. What about Lee Clark? We could get Kevin Keegan in as Director of Football.
Tuna Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 Nowhere near standard required for the premier league, surely a sympathy contract in view of his good contribution this season. You have to be ruthless I'm afraid, I would be shocked to see him even feature in the premier league and I would have to question Pearson's judgement in this situation. I recall him saying he'd get players if they were 'good enough', not 'good lads'.

Or, Pearson has signed him on for tutoring and experience purposes rather than him being in the first team squad? Just because he's signed a new contract it doesn't mean he'll play for the team next year. I really don't see the issue that everyone is having with this signing. He won't be on a lot of money at all whilst also being one of only a few players in the squad to have played in the Premier League. Pearson said he wanted to keep the squad together and with him resigning GTF he's showing he wants to do exactly that.
Corky Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 What about Lee Clark? We could get Kevin Keegan in as Director of Football. Yep, at least Lee runs into the crowd with the fans, that's true passion, something Nige could do well to replicate.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 Aren't we limited to 25 players this season? Though I think Liam Moore, Andy King and Jeff Schluup don't count towards that. Of those, just Moore.
gcah2013 Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 What about Lee Clark? We could get Kevin Keegan in as Director of Football. Lee Clark doesn't have experience of managing in the Premier League. As already discussed, experience is the key aspect to whether a person will be best for the club. Maybe Paul Ince fancies the job.
Agent Fox Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 GTF is pure silk, so silky he slides out of bed during the night. Deserves his new deal, 1 year is right no more. Good to bring on when we're infront with 10mins to go. I'll be shot down here but I prefer GTF to Nugent. He'll have more of an impact.
Guest Kopfkino Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 I don't know why people are surprised, Pearson's last interview clearly said 'I want to keep this group of players together' You'd imagine he'd be struggling to make the 25 so it's not clear why he's been signed apart from being the best player in the world

Stan Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 he is not prem quality . the worrying thing for me is someone in our coaching ranks rates him . wtf ? Yes, crikey! Heaven forbid that Pearson maybe knows something about football.
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 Pretty annoying given that we'd be better off getting rid of him and putting any money he's getting towards giving Dyer the two years he wanted whether you look at it for footballing or sentimental reasons.
gcah2013 Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 This contract renewal shows a complete lack of ambition. To waste - and make no mistake it is a complete waste - a spot in our 25-man squad on this part-timer is depressing.
Corky Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 Right, we can stop with the "poor decision", "Lack of ambition", "Nigel is mad" comments. This article clearly states that he is given a new contract if he makes 20 appearances. http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Gary-Taylor-Fletcher-hopes-earn-new-contract/story-20116046-detail/story.html The club made a commitment and is sticking to it. Good on them.

Happy Fox Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 If he was a first team player I would be worried but he is a squad player and will make an impact, either way he will be our 4th-5th choice striker.

If he can't make the first team at his age in the championship he should be gone not get a new contract. This must be a fvcking joke right? This is not like how Sven was, giving big money lengthy contracts to any one. GTF won't be on a lot, so this contract extension won't affect us financially. He won't expect to start any games or even be in the squad every game so what's the problem? His premier league experience alone could be priceless. Nowhere near standard required for the premier league, surely a sympathy contract in view of his good contribution this season. You have to be ruthless I'm afraid, I would be shocked to see him even feature in the premier league and I would have to question Pearson's judgement in this situation. fazzyfox Posted 8 May 2014 Posted 8 May 2014 I like GTF, he always appears to have the contented look of a guy who has just farted in a lift.
