Sv Werder Bremen - August 9th 2014 Pre Season

Recommended Posts

Perhaps the Bremen Bus can drop by Vienna on the way through and pick up Conchita Wurst. Then he/she can participate in a 'sing off' with Sam Bailey at half-time?  Should guarantee another full house at the KP.

Leicester City will warm up for the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season by locking horns with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen at King Power Stadium on Saturday 9 August.

The 3pm kick-off is likely to be one of the last chances for the Blue Army to see their side in action before the opening day of the season, and should prove to be a good test of their Premier League credentials.

The four-time German champions have been a fixture of European football competitions over recent seasons, and with star names such as Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Claudio Pizarro and Ailton all part of previous sides, Bremen have become one of the biggest names in German football.

Manager Robin Dutt’s current squad features a host of talent from across Europe, including Argentina international and former Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo.

Werder Bremen and Leicester City have met on two previous occasions. The first was on 13 August, 1966, when goals from Mike Stringfellow, Bobby Roberts and Jackie Sinclair gave the Foxes a 3-1 win in Germany, before Sinclair and Nick Sharkey scored in a 2-2 draw at Filbert Street on 1 May, 1967.

The exciting fixture becomes Leicester City’s third confirmed 2014/15 pre-season friendly, following the announcement of trips to Walsall on Wednesday 30 July (7.30pm KO) and Milton Keynes Dons on Monday 4 August (7.30pm KO).

SV Werder Bremen have agreed another international friendly for the 2014/15 pre-season . On Saturday 9 August 2014, the Green-Whites will come up against promoted to the Premier League Leicester City. For Werder Bremen this is a true test one week ahead of their first round German Cup game.

Behind Nigel Pearson's team was a extremely successful season. After a 10-year absence, the Fpxes will be playing in the Premier League again this coming season. The team from the East Midlands region secured the title in the Football League Championship and therefore celebrated their return to the top flight of English football.

Oh ****ing hell. They'll turn up with fifty fans, sing for a bit whilst jumpi up and down and then it'll all kick off. Best fans ever, fan partnership, we love you guys, come every year.

All of our songs next year will be Werder adaptations, some wally on here will get about 400 enamel pins and scarves made to celebrate our new fan friendship and desperately bid to flog em on here at 5 quid a pop.

lol So true. Although wouldn't be surprised if they brought more than 50 - they aren't playing in Europe next season so imagine they wouldn't say no to a beer day abroad.

Boring, would prefer 10 other German teams ahead of them, regardless if their fans are a bit hyper.

There's clearly a reason why these have been picked. It's a tester to see where we are. We've had the glamour friendlies and apart from it being a great occasion you end up on the wrong end of a defeat. We might well lose this one too but we'll get a lot more out of this.

Moin moin.....

As the name suggests I belong to a Scottish Werder Bremen fan group that travel to watch Werder at least three times a season.  Not going to miss out on the chance to come down & watch them in Leicester.  Still early days yet so no idea how many will be coming from Bremen but Ryanair fly from Bremen to Stansted & Flybe do the Hannover - Birmingham route.  The club have definitely struggled over the past few seasons after the sale of Diego (now with Athletico Madrid), Mertesacker, Naldo, Marin (wasting away at Chelsea), Pizarro & Ozil.  The manager left towards the end of last season too.  They've made a couple of good signings in Caldirola (Italian u21 captain) & Santi Garcia at the back.  Main midfield man Aaron Hunt has announced he's leaving too that leaves us short of quality there.  Obraniak & Bartels (from St Pauli) look interesting signings & Obraniak has already shown why he was signed.

Bitter rivals Hamburg ended in the relegation play off place & will now face Gruether Furth in a two legged showdown.  An added incentive to having their rivals relegated is to see the clock in their stadium stopped (it counts the amount of time they've been in the Bundesliga - the only team not to have been relegated).  The recent 100th Nordderby between the two teams produced this......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrulebOA4NQ Worth a watch if you have the time....

Auf geht's Werder!

Auf geht's Werder!

That looks like a very, very similar atmosphere to our ground before kick-off!! We have a bloke who stands in the centre-circle and blows a horn whilst a couple of people clap. Occasionally someone throws a bag of sandwich wrappers for added excitement.
