cjslcfc Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Even though Nugent scored 20 goals last season, I don't think it was his best season for us. We didn't see the magic of the previous season and I was never convinced when he took a penalty. If he signs a contract, great, if he doesn't, then I'm sure he can be replaced. I've always liked Nugent actually. He got 20 goals and 12 assists. That's a direct involvement in 32 of our goals. We scored 83 in the league. That's about 40% of our goals, which is absolutely massive. I think he had a fantastic season and always pops up at big moments for us. Although I agree about his penalties. He doesn't look the most comfortable with it. However, he's stepped up and done it all season so let's give him some credit.

What I enjoy seeing from Nugent is his deft touches to score great individualist goals. Maybe last season he played more for the team but was less spectacular as a result. Either way...I like Nugent.
Corky Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Even more irritating than the 'anti-Nugents' are those who try and draw something out of nothing by claiming people have an agenda against Nugent because they don't think he's a brilliant penalty taker. 10 out of 13 is average. 75% success rate isn't average Dan. 6 out of 13 is average. We had an unprecedented number of penalties last season and given the fact Nugent had taken one in his career before the season his conversion rate is pretty good for a new taker.
Devonfox1884 Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Matt Le Tissier scored 48 penalties from 49. That means he only missed one, ever. Can't remember Muzzy missing any. All hit low to the goalkeepers right. Everyone knew where he was going to put the ball, and he did! . Muzzy missed one in the 02/03 season I think, millwall away??
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 He was an integral part of our success last season , and that's not even up for debate. Any other teams supporters who had just seen their side romp the championship would be grateful too Nugent and would not begrudge him a second bite a the prem. But there is something about our supporters that seem to revel in slagging off our own players , like they are good enough to manage or play as good as he and the manager. Leicester city will be a much better side with David Nugent in the ranks next season in what ever capacity.
Dan Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 surely this a joke? The bit about him being average at penalties? No it wasn't. It isn't a bad record by any means but it isn't THAT good either really. Pretty sure I read about 75% of penalties are scored and 10 out of 13 is around 76%, so it's pretty much average.

Scoring less than half of your penalties is average? I'm not sure about that. I'll give you that about him being a new taker and fair play considering it was something he even said himself he wasn't confident it. I like Nugent as a player by the way, I'm not trying to pick at him for being a bad player because he isn't at all, but I just don't think he's that good a penalty taker.
Harry - LCFC Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Might be fairer to add in his converted penalty against Ipswich the season before. 11 from 14, 79% conversion rate. Neither a particularly good nor a particularly poor penalty taker really. surely this a joke? Don't get this sort of thing. Why do people feel the need to make out that what someone said was ridiculous or silly? Seems to be the standard thing to do when you disagree with someone, just mock the point rather than respond to it.

Not sure about that, but in shoot outs at the least attackers convert 83.1% of their penalties.

Dan Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 It wasn't even him who you said it to Yes I was being entirely serious. What is so 'joke' like about what I said? I've hardly questioned Ronaldo's goalscoring record.

Guest Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Please mods can transfer threads be about targets and not Nugent/Vardy/whoever they can stay in the LCFC thread.

The problem was it was all on one season I think eventually the keepers work you out on videos when you are doing them that often
Babylon Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Please mods can transfer threads be about targets and not Nugent/Vardy/whoever they can stay in the LCFC thread. They are always going to branch off as anyone coming in is going to be competition / a replacement for players always here.
Xen Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 Please mods can transfer threads be about targets and not Nugent/Vardy/whoever they can stay in the LCFC thread. Seems like every thread in this section is about nugent nowadays. You can read the last page in a thread and still be none the wiser as to who the thread is supposed to be about.

Maybe 6 out of 13 isn't average, and is quite poor looking at it again (you wouldn't want that every season), but say those 13 penalties Nugent had were spread out over 3 seasons, and missed one in each, I don't think people would be so quick to call him a poor penalty taker. He's probably got a similar record to Muzzy and I doubt there would be many comments about him having a poor record/ technique. No doubt he could be improved on, Wood seems like a confident penalty taker but it depends on how much he plays.

jamiegoode Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Ill try not sound like one of those people that use the tried and tested football manager when quoting player qualities.....but the fm13/fm14 Celso Borges is pretty good, cheap, doesnt demand loads. I usually use him and a guy called Rainford Kalaba. I usually check random players i find on football manager and see if they are actually good in real life [sometime FM overates players some what] Celso seems to have the bit of flair in his locker. reminds me so much of Nocky and Mahrez... he played a decent world cup too, for around 1m id have him in the squad.
