Fox in the North Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 10 out of 13 was probably one of the best penalty averages for an English player last year! you expecting a perfect 13/13? Get realistic, he's going to miss a couple over the season.

MC Prussian Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Nugent's penalty technique is awful But he scores. Rest is irrelevant. But anything to criticize a player you don't like, eh? Were you born with this attitude?
KIRBYFOX93 Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Gerrard only missed 1 in about 8 you comparing Gerrard a Premier league great to Nugent. Jheeze nugent must be good
MC Prussian Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 you comparing Gerrard a Premier league great to Nugent. Jheeze nugent must be good He was making a point in favour of Gerrard compared to Nugent based on their penalty scoring record, not based on their playing style, pedigree or footballing skills. Bit different, that.
Deucalion Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Before last season Nugent didn't take penalties, which was a bit of a cop-out for a senior player. Respect to him for stepping up last season, but I don't think he is great at penalties. Gary Mills was great at penalties, as were Garry Parker, Matty Fryatt and Paul Gallagher. Nugent is not in this bracket regarding penalties.
artursteppe Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Matt Le Tissier scored 48 penalties from 49. That means he only missed one, ever. Can't remember Muzzy missing any. All hit low to the goalkeepers right. Everyone knew where he was going to put the ball, and he did!
Sir Fynwy Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Matt Le Tissier scored 48 penalties from 49. That means he only missed one, ever. Can't remember Muzzy missing any. All hit low to the goalkeepers right. Everyone knew where he was going to put the ball, and he did! Muzzy missed the retaken penalty against Barthez

Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Matt Le Tissier scored 48 penalties from 49. That means he only missed one, ever. Can't remember Muzzy missing any. All hit low to the goalkeepers right. Everyone knew where he was going to put the ball, and he did! In those days a keeper wasn't allowed to move along/off his line before the ball was struck. The rules now allow the keeper a significantly better chance, and mean the taker has to be more canny about his approach, and less consistent with his chosen side or the keeper will stop it.
Corky Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Matt Le Tissier scored 48 penalties from 49. That means he only missed one, ever. Can't remember Muzzy missing any. All hit low to the goalkeepers right. Everyone knew where he was going to put the ball, and he did! He missed at least three (Ipswich, Man United and Millwall).
LCFC FOX Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Nugent is a decent penalty taker but doesn't have much of a bottle in big games. Like Watford last season. I think he let's the nerves beat him
Claridge Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 you comparing Gerrard a Premier league great to Nugent. Jheeze nugent must be good Nugents better for England that's for sure
cjslcfc Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Nugent is a decent penalty taker but doesn't have much of a bottle in big games. Like Watford last season. I think he let's the nerves beat him Is this just about penalties or his performance in general in big games? To be honest he had only taken 2 or 3 penalties in his whole career before that Watford 2nd leg! I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to step up.
J.Lisemore Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 I remember the Izzet penalty v Man United, He actually scored but because Barthez was taking the piss and kicking the post to get mud off his boots, he then had to retake it. Then missed.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Who really gives a shite about Nugent's bloody penalties!
foxfanazer Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Who really gives a shite about Nugent's bloody penalties! The people that have an agenda against him
Dan Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Even more irritating than the 'anti-Nugents' are those who try and draw something out of nothing by claiming people have an agenda against Nugent because they don't think he's a brilliant penalty taker. 10 out of 13 is average.
Stadt Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 His technique is pretty poor and I think his misses were in games where we really needed them like Forest at home. Seems to struggle under pressure.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Nugent might not be an ace penalty taker. So what? Seriously. He's one of our best players and needs to be kept. If people cannot see the importance to this team of Nugent I'm shocked.
Deucalion Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Even though Nugent scored 20 goals last season, I don't think it was his best season for us. We didn't see the magic of the previous season and I was never convinced when he took a penalty. If he signs a contract, great, if he doesn't, then I'm sure he can be replaced. I've always liked Nugent actually.
katieakita Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Any more news on this Borges bloke then ? Borges wants to see a youtube video of Nugent's penalties first
Tuna Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 But he scores. Rest is irrelevant. But anything to criticize a player you don't like, eh? Were you born with this attitude? I like Nugent and I think he has a role to play next season, not as our main striker anymore, but as a useful squad member. However, I am not confident about him taking penalties.
