davieG Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Leicester City are showing interest in Costa Rican World Cup star Celso Borges who could be available for just £1.5million. The 26-year-old central midfielder won't be short of offers after his impressive displays at the tournament in Brazil where Los Ticos stunned Italy and Uruguay to qualify from Group D.Borges is interesting several Premier League clubs, including the Foxes who are now doing their homework on the AIK Solna star who is expected to leave Sweden this summer. The Costa Rica captain revealed how his team-mates approached their tough World Cup assignment and his comments showed Leicester City officials that he has the perfect attitude to join Nigel Pearson's squad for their return to the Premier League.Borges said: "Individually, we are probably far behind them but we have our strengths, the most important one being our team spirit. We are a disciplined, well-organised team, solid at the back, with the 'one for all, all for one' spirit. We do not play for ourselves and our careers; we play for every Costa Rican that supports us." - See more at: http://www.sportinastorm.com/Premier-League/Leicester-City/Foxes-interested-in-Costa-Rica-star/X1Y41Z1775910?#sthash.7T6x9gMR.dpuf
dpjfox Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Costa Rica central midfielder yet another rumour following on from World Cup
WhispyWizard Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Can't see it happening, but is a position that i think needs improvement.
Happy Fox Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Seems to be a goalscoring central midfielder which is something we do need.
Ric Flair Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Hahahahaahahaaa it's unbelievable, it goes against everything our current management operates. Our whole scouting and recruitment process is very meticulous and i'd be astounded if we'd sign players based solely on seeing them do alright in this World Cup. I suppose if some of these players have been on our radar and they've then done well in Brazil then it could force us to make a move earlier than planned, like Waris, Aboubaker etc but it's now a daily rumour with us.
Finnegan Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 That said, Borges would fit the bill in other terms. Costa Rica have been disciplined, fit, hard working. He plays in a lesser European league, would cost a snip yet is seemingly unphased about stepping up a level. For that kind of money I'd be happy enough with us having a punt, particularly given I understand he's more of a conventional attacking midfielder and I think we need more options, tactically, in our squad and personnel.

It's perfectly possible that we've been scouting players like Borges for quite a while (pre-WC). Character- and position-wise, he'd fit in nicely here.

Yes, I said that in my post. I just find it incredulous that we are interested in all of these World Cup players based on the way we operate usually. I'm sure one or two we've had on our radar and strong performances in Brazil will encourage us to step up our pursuit but not all of them. No way.
Tuna Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 A goal every four games for his club team, 14 in 63 for Costa Rica, 6ft 1 and still playing in Sweden? How is he not playing for a better club? Sign him up please!
Aus Fox Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 I believe this will be there first of the 9 Costa Ricans to arrive...
lgfualol Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Let's take him. Just sign someone. It's July 1st, only 2 months left
Dan Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 I wouldn't actually be against this at all. Heard of him prior to the world cup and although I hadn't seen him I've heard he's pretty highly rated. It's 99% bullshit though as it's just so easy for a journalist to make up. Newly promoted side looking at player from over-achieving world cup side shocker.
Banks Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Let's just sign loads of Algerians, Costa Ricans and Chileans...
karlikrull Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 As an AIK supporter, I can confirm Celso is a fantastic player. Before the season he was already expected to leave after the world cup.He is a creative player who, when given time with the ball, can create magic. He is also very respected among AIK fans, as he is a really professional person outside the field with a huge respect for the fans aswell. Some highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGfFOWKZ1jM Goal against Helsingborg back in May: Long interview with AIK Podcast Radio Råsunda (in english): http://ec.libsyn.com/p/c/b/5/cb5157c36f82545c/Radio_Rasunda_-_Celso_Borges_special.mp3?d13a76d516d9dec20c3d276ce028ed5089ab1ce3dae902ea1d06c88335d2cc587b66&c_id=7283115

So do you think there is any truth to this rumour?
Finnegan Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Reminds me of the Guingamp fans review of our little Frenchman.
karlikrull Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Thanks for your input. So do you think there is any truth to this rumour? No one over at the AIK forum seems to have taken it seriously. Celso has 1 year left on his contract, but still £1.5 million seems cheap for a player of his class. Guess time will tell, transfer sums with Swedish clubs are usually undisclosed but I think Leicester should be able to put up with a bigger sum than that?.

We like a bargain, our manager shops around for good value. If there's any truth in this it will be because he thinks a Swedish club can't afford to demand too much for a player in his last year.
Ric Flair Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Got a feeling this will happen. It's got Pearson written all over it. Walsh has been beavering away in Sweden all year without us or his wife knowing about it.
KFS Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 Reminds me of the Guingamp fans review of our little Frenchman.I always remember that classic line:"Anthony is good, but he's stupid... Really stupid"

Guess time will tell, transfer sums with Swedish clubs are usually undisclosed but I think Leicester should be able to put up with a bigger sum than that?. Probably, but recently we haven't been afraid to pull out of negotiations if clubs start requesting silly money. I think the owners learnt their lesson from when Sven-Goran Eriksson was our manager and he threw money around to little effect.
Finnegan Posted 1 July 2014 Posted 1 July 2014 I always remember that classic line: "Anthony is good, but he's stupid... Really stupid" bless him it's so true. The video of him singing the player's songs is just fantastic.
