nativefox Posted 9 July 2014 Posted 9 July 2014 Did anyone else hear MON when asked about subbing goalkeepers for penalty shoot outs say (I'm paraphrasing). "I did that. We had a good goalie who was 5 foot 10 and quite agile but we brought on a 6 foot 7 goalie who we thought could save a penalty or two. He was useless though." Priceless. Didn't do too badly though considering he ended up at AC Milan.
Soar Fox Posted 9 July 2014 Posted 9 July 2014 A bit direscetful really and a uncalled for. I love MON for what he did for us, but I've heard from people who have met him that he's not a very nice man. My friend and his dad who are villa fans absolutely hate him for what he said to them & other villa fans at a Q&A night.

Soar Fox Posted 9 July 2014 Posted 9 July 2014 Spill! It was something to do with the Uefa Cup when he put a weakened team out in Moscow. Basically told them it's not his fault they wasted their money and he didn't make them go over there. Then he said that if it was upto him he wouldn't even being doing a Q&A and he's only there because the club told him he had to be
ealingfox Posted 9 July 2014 Posted 9 July 2014 Was it just me who thought he went out of his way to avoid mentioning it was while he was at Leicester that he did it? Couldn't really hear the sound that well so he might have given us a shoutout. Fair play for bringing it up though, not letting Van Gaal get away with any credit for these 'original' ideas. Anyone saying its disrespectful or uncalled for that he also mentioned Kalac was shit wind your necks in will you. If he did call him useless thats pretty complimentary of his performances for us.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 I love the man, but man his punditry has been the worse from ITV. Think he's reached the point of not giving a **** so just throws shit at the wall to see what will stick
KFS Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Great manager, but he's like your annoying puerile uncle who chats shit at family events now.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Crystal Palace players from that day have admitted their heads were turned when Kalac came on leaving Claridge with that split second of extra space and time... the rest is history. However shit he was I'll always be grateful to Spider for his 'contribution'
Fox92 Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 He was right to say it imo. They keep banging on about Van Gaal being revolutionary just because he plays 352 and changed his goalkeeper for penalties. O'Neill played in a 352 under Clough at Forest, then played it himself as manager here and changed his goalkeeper in the play off final. Just think they are justifying him as United manager.
OzFox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Kalac has been a pundit on SBS over here for the World Cup. He more than likely gets to hear comments like that He's been working all hours on the graveyard shifts, probably still trying to pay off his gambling debts

You don't get any shit with Martin O Neil. Supporters know now teams often play weakened sides in the UEFA cup, it's your choice to go and spend money. Many others give you bull shot answers written by a media advisor, Martin says what he thinks and I for one love that.
AKCJ Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 He's a pundit. It's his job to say if someone is shit or not.
suffolk fox Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Love to have been there when he spoke the truth to villa fans that he didn't want to be their but he had to be as the club had insisted. Honesty is a great tool. That's what I liKe about oneil he says it as it is! Always a legend in my book. Get over yourselves not a nice person, jesus whatever next?
Leicester Rule! Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Saw him a few times out there on the Copacabana. A genuinely nice bloke who was happy to just stop what he was doing and have a chat.
Jace Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Even Kevin Poole admitted Mark McGee apologised to him for bringing in Zalac as it was a mistake
Grewks Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Everyone knows that MON has the personality of a complete ****. Fans have seen it, his ex players have seen it and as a result of his features on ITV during this world cup the neutrals have seen it. Players at leicester were constantly saying how bad he was, they never wanted to cross him and said he was the mardiest bastard ever. It was one factor which arguably made him successful, just like his mentor Clough. The great SAF was also the same, with Mourinho being even worse. It is one thing for MON to call a keeper useless years after doing nothing wrong, but to make comments about your own players after losing a big game (such as the 'team player' comments with regards to hazard after losing to athletico) just shows that MON isn't the only mardy git in the game.

I'm pretty sure Van Gaal already stated at the beginning of the tournament in an interview that he modelled his Dutch side on the Leicester City side of 90's early 2000 under MON. It's absolutely no secret by Van Gaal by saying "I'm a great admirer of the Leicester City team from that period" but credit LCFC where credit is due Van. He should have mentioned Leicester after Quarter final game.

MattGamble92 Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Only on a Leicester City forum could i read so many negative comments about the clubs greatest ever manager
