Foxes1 Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I must have been asleep for the last couple of weeks but we haven't spent anything yet. Alright I know we have signed existing players on new contracts, but at the minute we have a smaller squad than last season when you look at the players released, and we all know our squad wasn't the largest in the Championship then. Premiership sides need strength in depth and at the minute we haven't got that.
cc_star Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 We've replaced: Miquel with Upson Dyer with Albrighton (which I'm personally not sure of, as it may signify a change of style & we don't have the forwards to play that way, yet!) And added: Ben Hamer Some good early business on frees in my opinion, we needed another wideman an experienced defender & better backup in goal We're obviously in for at least 1 forward from Ulloa, Wickham or someone currently playing abroad, maybe in France or Portugal I can see a couple more arrivals before the end of August, the transfer market will start freeing up after the world cup and the merry-go-round will start. Don't forget if we're after quality, then their existing club will need to replace that player before letting them go As for strength in depth? We've had strength in depth but the most recent close knit squad was our best ever at that level - who's to say what's right, Palace did alright by focusing on a matchday squad rather than Holloway's bloat, it's more about the attitude of the team which is down to the management as well as at least a 'sprinkling' of ability which Drinkwater, James, Mahrez etc have and they're still growing to reach their prime and as such so is the team.
Foxes1 Posted 12 July 2014 Author Posted 12 July 2014 I am not panicking I remember when we first went up and Martin George was chairman he came out with a bullish statement saying that we intend to spend money and will not be in there to make the numbers up and all we purchased was Mark Draper. Think we will have to wait and see what if anything materialises but the squad needs strengthening.
Ric Flair Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 It's quite difficult for newly promoted teams to get the players in they want, there's a lot of knock backs and this wage structure won't help either. I'm sure a few more will come in, we've got to trust Nige. What he did last season was remarkable, this is his big chance to prove he's one of the best English managers in the game. He knows that. If he gets it wrong next season then he could never get the same opportunity again.
Fox42 Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 I don't understand why everyone is panicking and dying over the fact that Pearson hasn't made any signings during the World Cup period. Duhh. That's what he's been looking at. Just you wait next week, things will explode in the foxes camp... And on here.

Guest LCFC_World Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Wouldn't panic yet, still early(ish) days. Plenty of time.
Fox92 Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 There's no rush. Pearson and his scouting staff are not idiots, as proved throughout his time here. Last thing we want to do is jump straight into signing more players just because we're in the Premier League now. Look at when QPR got promoted, they signed 12/13/14 players, played Bolton on the opening day and lost 0-5 at home... Pearson said earlier in an interview that "we're always trying to improve the squad", which, at the minute at the start of June, is good enough for me. He obviously has targets but it's not as simple as bidding for x, negotiating with x and welcoming x to the club.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 It's the calm before the storm, chaps. Pearson will do the business, I hope.
Richard Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 The only worrying thing is that we know Pearson likes to get his business done early, yet this season for one reason or another we haven't been able to secure the target's we're after as early in previous years. It might not be panic stations yet but you basically lose a week in the summer for Premier League teams compared to Championship, so we need to see some development in the next few weeks to ensure the new players can bed in before the start of the season.
Leicesterpool Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Don't panic Mr Mainwaring! I'm not really worried to be honest, this team has slowly been building for this stage probably since Nigel took over back in 2011. We've got a young team full of potential that have something to prove. Though I will say i think we are in need of an experienced premier league striker, it's a pity Jermaine Defoe went to Toronto he would have been perfect.

Sir Shep Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Only Liverpool seem to be signing lots of players, mainly from their feeder club Southampton. I'm sure things will pick up for everyone next week when Brazil will be a distant memory.
katieakita Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Once the world cup is done and dusted things will start to move, targets may suddenly become available and history shows us NP certainly does his homework when bringing in players, don't think it will be a case of a good youtube video being the clincher unlike some previous managers.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 What spending ? Am I missing something here. We so far have done everything on the cheap with no real outlay . Like it or not if the club do not pay out some serious money for quality players it will be inevitable that relegation beckons. As the weeks pass by and no real sign of ambition or understanding of how the Premiership works ten years on since we were last in it , it appears that all that talk about having the cash to make sure we stop up was just blowing smoke up our ars*s. I'm not normally a pessimist but it is very hard not to be at the moment. Lets hope they will surprise us all with at least three prem quality players . All the emphasis seems to be on a striker but lets face it it's our current defense , particularly left back and central that need strengthening and any injuries to Drinkwater and James doesn't bear thinking about. Still keep the faith eh ?
katieakita Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Would be a little concerned if the owners had not ploughed considerable investment into the infrastructure of the club. Serious investment into the long term future of the club has been made in the backroom staff, training facilities and the scouting and youth set up.
MooseBreath Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Pearson likes his business done early. Can't see how the world cup will have had much of an impact. Pearson has admitted missing out on targets. But he won't panic buy. Hence we're behind where we would have liked to be, and that is a cause for some concern. Not massive amounts, but some. Have to admit it's a bit disappointing given the head start we had after confirming promotion early. I really expected NP to have had a few good signings lined up and ready to execute. Now it looks as though we'll still be trying to do business as the new season kicks off, which isn't ideal.

Still keep the faith eh ? Chill out. We've just renewed the contracts of most of our first team squad and added 3 players. I'd say we've done things the right way so far - tie down our best assets and move quickly to get the Bosman's we wanted. There's still plenty of time to splash the cash on some serious talent. If we're sitting here on August 1st and nothing's happened, then you can start panicking.
volpeazzurro Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I as well think there's no panic whatsoever yet, very early days. Even if targets have been identified and clubs approached, there will be the usual under and over valuation by both clubs whilst compromises are sought due to the high sums sought (plus personal terms). We're going to be in a mini league of roughly 10-12 teams realistically and regardless of how we performed defensively last year, all these teams will ship goals as they are up against some of the best forwards in Europe if not the World. Where it seems most important to me, looking at the teams in the Premiership for the last two seasons, is the ability to SCORE goals. Thus far we've already imo got an attacking talented midfield with hopefully a few goals in them like last season but... we do look a bit light up front but I'm positive that NP and his team are well aware of that. We are an unknown quantity yet to the Premiership so better to get a few of the bigger teams out of the way first whilst they still get into their stride. I think Vardy's sheer energy, pace and persistence is going to come as a shock to some and it is a great asset to have, though I don't think he'll score prolifically. Get the right player to feed off him and I think we're in business. Don't think Nugent is that player but he's a useful squad player. Wood is still only young and we sometimes forget this, I think there's more to come from him and he is always ready and confident enough to have a pop whereas Nugent is a little reluctant at times. I do see Wickham and Ulloah as good targets, Wickham in particular seems to fit straight into the Pearson mould for me. But, be prepared for yet another unknown like Knockhardt or Mahrez from Walsh, I've no problem with this, I find it quite refreshing and exciting.
