Merging Cultures Posted 17 July 2014 Posted 17 July 2014 Even though there is talk of a cease fire to let an investigation happen (according to the BBC) I can't imagine the separatists, or Russia, letting it happen. At least not without evidence being removed/planted. It might take a US military team to hold the area and protect the integrity of the site. Which might involve some fighting. That reddit link is a difficult read.

Some TV channels showing lots of passports which presumably would indicate they had been pillaged from the dead passengers. Six British nationals confirmed to be on the flight. I am sickened by some of the images I've seen on twitter tonight.

Found out through Facebook, twitter, text messages etc that a lad that I went to school with in Market Bosworth was on that plane. He was travelling over to Aus for whatever reason and nor did he get there but he won't be coming home either. Sickening and heart breaking that it's somebody I know. Was really good friends with his brother and it's his birthday today, imagine having to deal with that on your mind on your birthday every year. So so tragic. He was from Western Park area, a really nice, polite lad. So popular with everyone who knew him, a real credit to himself and his family. Thoughts are with his family and close friends. To think of 300 or so normal people going away on holiday, business or whatever, sat enjoying themselves on a routine flight one minute and then dead the next in a war zone and then having to suffer the indignity of having their pockets and bags rifled through and their bodies photographed and tweeted around the world is just too much.

It's really heartbreaking to hear that almost 300 innocent people died due to a dimwit mistaking the plane for a cargo transport. Some of these pictures on that Reddit site are just plain awful - to think that all these people are never going to come home, never to be able to enjoy a fulfilled life makes it hard to bear. Also awful news for Malaysian Airlines, with two sad incidents in the space of a few months.

Russia won't admit that their dimwit proxies did this, so then what happens? Definitely could escalate.Especially as a day ago Putin was saying how they would retaliate for tougher sanctions. Australia are coming out with some tough words too. Abbott seems like the type of guy who might forego diplomacy.
