RowlattsFox Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Someone who can cover both full back positions would be nice, definitely a right back. Extra body I'm centre midfield, maybe even 2. A striker. I think these positions can be covered through clever use of loan market as I'm not sure we need to go out and spend big.
lc4lcfc Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 I don't think we will get another striker now. In my opinion we need RB- linked with fanni DM- linked with cambiasso LB- purely because I don't expect konchesky to last the full 38 games, then bring in a player capable of playing on the wing and through the middle (attacking midfielder) This in my opinion is what Pearson was thinking when he said attacking options. Our squad is small and talented but with the injuries we have at the minute I want good cover in every position haha it looks like Pearson is in agreement
MGLCFC Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Preferences for me are RB - looks like it could be Rod Fanni LB - Zaki Fryerrs (loan) CM - Esteban Cambiasso (hopefully), if not Lewis Holtby on loan CAM - Nick Powell Winger - Nathan Redmond or Aaron Lennon Personally not convinced we need another out and out striker

No way are we getting 5 more players. We'll get Fanni or another defender, one midfielder and maybe a forward.
benpicko Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Forget it. No way are we getting 5 more players. We'll get Fanni or another defender, one midfielder and maybe a forward. Why not 5? It looks like Fanni is already basically signed, Pearson still seems hopeful for Cambiasso, I'd imagine he's still going to sign a striker what with his comments about attacking options and the amount of strikers we've been linked to that haven't gone our way and I'd like to think we'd get a left back on loan at least. We didn't rely on Konchesky all of last year and he was out-muscled from his position by a striker who now seems to be becoming a winger this season, so yeah there's four signings that I could realistically see happening. Why's a fifth ludicrous?

Why's a fifth ludicrous? Well because he basically said 3 in his interview yesterday. Also just becaus'e Schlupp came on in midfield on Saturday doesnt mean he is the second coming of Lloydy baby! Had Albrighton or Vardy been fit he wouldn't have been considered. He was basically the only option with pace we had.
RobHawk Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 If we get Fanni I think the defence is done! Everybody moans about left back but we have a very experienced left back and a young left back who is more than capable. I think what will really help Konch this year is his job is going to be much more defensive than last year as there's going to be a lot of games where we are pegged back. That didn't happen last year and it was clear from Saturday that this suited him. We still clearly need another CM and hopefully Cambiasso will be it. After that I'd like to see someone like Slimani come in who can play up top or wide, like Vardy so it gives up much options in various positions. With Wood staying I don't see the likes of Deeney as absolutely necessary, although I do think he's a very good player. On top of that we may get some loan players in, but I can't really see that happening unless it's with a view to a permanent move. Last season we had 1 loan player and he hardly played and I can't see many loan players getting into our team, so why would they bother sitting on our bench? The other thing to bear in mind is we do have a strong academy, not that I'm looking for any of them to start but they may be used for the odd cameo off the bench. Whilst I appreciate the league has changed, we often used youth team players during the O'Neill years. Off the top of my head I remover the likes of Stef Oakes and Jordan Stewart playing regularly and neither went on to do much. We also played the likes of Martin Reeves along with quite a few others. We shouldn't just block the step up by filling our squad with players who won't add anything other than an extra body for the sake of having more on the books.

Fox 4 Life Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 Leroy Fer having a medical at qpr, would have been perfect for us especially given the injuries! I think we should make a move for Holtby
JJS84 Posted 19 August 2014 Posted 19 August 2014 I think 3 would do, its the magic number. a versatile defender, looks like its been found with Fanni looking like he is coming in. a solid, battling CM, Cambi would have done, that ones yet to be seen, but someone in that type of mould would be nice. a versatile forward, some one how can play both upfront and out wide, Smilani has been mentioned, would probably do the job. beyond that a winger would help, might be a bit of a luxury though, don't want to many new bodies coming in a messing with team spirit.
Bamba's Babes Posted 19 August 2014 Author Posted 19 August 2014 The question must be asked; why has the club left it so late? We have injuries which has put us on high alert for new players but these positions were required even with a fully fit squad. I find it strange. We're not going to sign a player for millions because on of ours is out for two weeks so surely we must have been looking the whole time?

NP has stated that the club has missed out on targets, and as we know the way NP works ref transfers, with the exception of Campbell, we're never going to know who they are. we could have missed out on half a dozen players for all we know.
Kings_knockaers Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Don't know much about the guy other than he was their first choice left back until recently, but Assou-Ekotto is apparently (according to the Metro at least!) being released by Spurs.....decent free transfer to provide cover & maybe more at left back? Not sure.

Not sure. Just my opinion, but for me the blokes a liability, a legend in his own mind. If he's not out of position, he's reckless and getting sent off or fighting with his own team mates as witnessed both at QPR and the World Cup last season. From what I've seen, a real bad egg, with a big ego and terrible attitude, I feel.
dpjfox Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 is there enough time left in the window to sign one player, the speed we do deals!!!
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 I would go nowhere near Assou-Ekotto. Completely over-rated IMO. What we need is a bigger squad, first and foremost. I'd be looking at another central midfielder.. everyone is saying a DM, and fine, but I think we need a more creative bloke in the middle personally. And I think we look weaker on the right than the left. RDL, suported by Knocky, worries me a little. Central defence.. fine.. Strikers.. fine....

Number 6 Posted 20 August 2014 Posted 20 August 2014 Defensive cover of some sort is needed I think. Mentioned Geoff Cameron in another thread. Cambiasso would leave us sorted centrally I think. Maybe a winger in on loan? If we're willing to spend then Redmond would be great. Don't personally think we need another striker. We have 4 decent options plus Schlupp or Hopper if pushed. Just don't see this as a priority.
Richard Posted 21 August 2014 Posted 21 August 2014 The thing is we could do with improving every position in the team, but we don't want to make too many signings in this window. Were in a transition phase to creating a premier league quality squad so I'd expect over the next year we'll sign at least one player for each position (possibly excluding goalkeeper) Pearson and co's job is to find the right players to bring in at this moment of time.
