Sir Fynwy Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Reports on Twitter from the Mercury that there have been 4 suspected Ebola cases treated in Leicester hospitals, none proved positive
Merging Cultures Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 You still need to be pretty unlucky. I think that if it was fully airborne ala various strains of influenza/common cold, THAT would be the time to panic. I agree somewhat and I hope the people on the cruise with a Dallas healthcare worker who looked after Thomas Duncan and is now showing symptoms are lucky... http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/18/us/ebola-cruise-ship-dallas.html?_r=2 http://belizean.com/belize-confirms-patient-with-ebola-symptoms-on-cruise-ship-off-its-coast-1814/
Jon the Hat Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Some quality panic going on in the US I see. It must be said the CDC seem to be utterly incapable of ensuring even basic infection control. I read that the two nurses in Texas both had contact with the guy before he was diagnosed without any protection.

It must be said the CDC seem to be utterly incapable of ensuring even basic infection control. I read that the two nurses in Texas both had contact with the guy before he was diagnosed without any protection. And the 2nd one flew to Ohio and back! When she checked with the CDC if she should fly back to Dallas, with a mild temperature, they said yes!! . Yes the CDC seem to be messing this up badly!
Beliall Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 And the 2nd one flew to Ohio and back! When she checked with the CDC if she should fly back to Dallas, with a mild temperature, they said yes!! . Yes the CDC seem to be messing this up badly! the nurse seems clueless as well
Merging Cultures Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 the nurse seems clueless as well Completely.
Babylon Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Reports on Twitter from the Mercury that there have been 4 suspected Ebola cases treated in Leicester hospitals, none proved positive So really the news is.... "Nobody has Ebola in Leicester". Or "4 worry warts have flue and think it's Ebola in Leicester".
Dr The Singh Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 One interview on the news was quite funny, a senator stated your more likely to be shot then catch Ebola, and that there focusing too much on it and should focus on much larger issues
Sir Fynwy Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 So really the news is.... "Nobody has Ebola in Leicester". Or "4 worry warts have flue and think it's Ebola in Leicester". Not really, the hospitals were the ones worrying. If you turn up at the GPs with flu like symptoms and get rushed to the infirmary it's not really your fault.
I am Rod Hull Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Its like the bird flu panic all over again. It aint going to happen.....

MC Prussian Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 I'm in Dallas at the moment, people are getting spooked around here. Aslong as my flight on friday isn't going to be delayed, I will be fine!! Have they already checked on your temperature? I know you call it spicy, others might call you too hot to handle!
cambridgefox Posted 18 October 2014 Posted 18 October 2014 Media causing panic.Fact ,and this is just children. 1 child dies every 30 seconds from Malaria. Suprised the Mail haven't made a story about mosquitos arriving in shipping crates and air cargo to cause a stir, but it's possible I suppose, but no one has panicked about that. Or does a mosquito only live for a short period.more research needed I think .
Haydos Posted 18 October 2014 Posted 18 October 2014 Aren't the chances of it spreading in Western countries very low compared to Africa? Or hygiene and precautions are so much better. Even if a few get through doesn't it still have to pass through bodily fluids?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 19 October 2014 Posted 19 October 2014 Love this story... http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/ebola-cruise-ship-%E2%80%98in-utter-panic%E2%80%99-as-mexico-and-belize-refuse-to-let-it-dock/ar-BB9WRt1 Another passenger, who called himself Michael, told CNN: "Obviously our concern is where is this person is on the ship and what kind of set up do they have to care for them? I can't imagine it's a completely quarantined area. They have not told us at all where the person is. Yes, I imagine because you're exactly the kind of person who, if they knew who the person was, would throw them overboard. Stupid of her to go on the cruise in the first place though.
Dr The Singh Posted 19 October 2014 Posted 19 October 2014 Have they already checked on your temperature? I know you call it spicy, others might call you too hot to handle! Exactly, they know, no fooking disease can hurt me, i'm immune to all, it's the alcohol, it kills everything!!
Guest seanfox778 Posted 19 October 2014 Posted 19 October 2014 This reminds me of 24 season 3. Why nobody has called Jack Bauer up yet is beyond me (I haven't seen the latest season yet, so if he dies or anything please don't ruin it ).
ScouseFox Posted 20 October 2014 Posted 20 October 2014 sees beliall is last poster in gen chat... expects something funny in tinder thread... opens it; ebola. ruined my mood.

Or does a mosquito only live for a short period.more research needed I think . Malaria wouldn't live in the UK. We don't have it in Lesotho as it is too cold. Aren't the chances of it spreading in Western countries very low compared to Africa? Or hygiene and precautions are so much better. Even if a few get through doesn't it still have to pass through bodily fluids? Do you really think people's hygiene in the UK is better? Think how many times you have seen people sneeze in to their hands with no means of being able to wash them. We are very mobile too, how many people use the tube or buses? All it takes is for someone with ebola to sneeze in to their hand, and then hold the handrail, depositing their snot for someone else to get on their hands. All that person then has to do it rub their eye, touch their mouth or something and the virus can be caught. The virus can live 6 days on a surface, much longer if in the right conditions. Hospitals are not very clean either. The virus is in bodily fluids, that means sweat, snot, spit, semen... etc. it can live on hard surfaces for 6+ days, it will live longer in the cold. If you have a cut on your hand, can be something as simple as a break on the skin near your nails, the virus can enter. If you touch your eyes, inside your mouth or nose then the virus can enter. The best thing that the west has is systems. They can quarantine the infected person and prevent further infection, if the virus is identified early. If the person does not go to the Hospital then systems don't mean a thing. I think there will be someone who refuses to go to hospital due to the stigma attached to the disease, or they are in the country illegally. They will ask their family to care for them, and then the virus will spread.
