Guest MattP Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 I absolutely categorically deny saying that people who vote for a different political party to me are idiots (I don't even know who I'm voting for yet). I just said that people who vote for UKIP are idiots. A 19 year old student based in Leicester who had just voted for the Greens calling other people idiots without even trying to understand why, even you can surely see how ridiculous it was? As I said though, I was a Lib Dem at your age so I won't be too harsh, you'll amazed how much your perception of life changes as you go through your 20's. The old Churchill quote really does ring true.... 'If you are not a liberal at 20, you have no heart. If you are not Conservative by 40, you have no brain'
Guest MattP Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 I've been called a few names also for not being an outright Tory even though I am not a shard line supporter of any particular party. No one should call you anything for not voting Tory, you are the last person who should be voting for the Conservatives! They are supposed to be the party of the people who ae out working as hard to possible to aspire to be anything they want to be. You should be Gordon Brown Labour absolutely through and through Ken.
Harry - LCFC Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 I think Hitler was right wing because of his desire to exterminate certain populations for Lebensraum. Asserting the dominance of the German people was his main goal and the fact that he'd have had his Aryan tea parties supplied by the state rather than the market isn't enough to make him a lefty in my opinion. Not that I think it matters much. This discussion strikes me as an attempt to give Hitler to the other side to make them look bad. To me that seems rather pointless. As KingGTF says, Nazi Germany is better described as being a 'third way' in a category with the rest of the totalitarian states of the last hundred years.

Well that isn't what I was trying to do at all, I don't think Hitler or the Nazis are at all comparable to any major party in Britain. I was very much just taking issue with the suggestion that the Nazis were actually socialists. I understand why you're voting UKIP Matt, I'm just not at all convinced that it will do you, or me, or the majority of the British people any good if you get your wish.

I vote Conservative Mark. I'll be helping out UKIP next May where they are in direct H2H contests with the Labour party though.
Rincewind Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 UKIP lost a seat they had a chance of taking..Has anyone posted it yet? Apologies if they have http://order-order.com/2014/10/17/ukip-get-thumped-in-their-target-seat/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+guidofawkes+%28Guy+Fawkes%27+blog+of+parliamentary+plots%2C+rumours+and+conspiracy%29

The problem for us kids these days Matt is the Lib Dems sold themselves down the river, none of us have a clue what Labour would even do, Ukip isn't really a young persons party. Personally for me the conservatives will reward my hard work and aspiration if I show it

This is a council by-election where the winner got 900 votes. Labour has not lost in West Thurrock and South Stifford since 2004.
Rincewind Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Ken are you gonna vote UKIP ? Doubt it. I don't trust them any more than the others.

They will create jobs by encouraging business, and they wont try to take every penny he earns and give it to lazy ****ers who dont bother

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Well no it was a dig at me saying the Nazis weren't socialists, which is apparently stupid because 'they have socialists in the name, duh'. I absolutely categorically deny saying that people who vote for a different political party to me are idiots (I don't even know who I'm voting for yet). I just said that people who vote for UKIP are idiots. Typical narrow minded little twat. I am a UKIP voter. If you want to call me an idiot , then say it to my face, sonny.

I'm making an assumption here but I doubt he had you specifically in mind when made that comment. It's not like he was trying to say things behind anyone's back.
purpleronnie Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 DT isn't helping end the cliche of a typical UKIP voter is he?
MooseBreath Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Whether Churchill said it or not is irrelevant really, it's still true. Although if I was 20 again I have no idea who I would vote for now. It's pretty obvious that labour aren't the party of the people they'd like to be seen as, unless more people are feckless paedophile rapists than we realise. The lib dems are proven to be a spineless, slimey little outfit, which just leaves the greens and their vindictive and spiteful economy-destroying nonsense. It's no wonder so many young people are lurching to the right. There's a huge gap in the market for a half decent left wing party right now.
purpleronnie Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 Whether Churchill said it or not is irrelevant really. You're right there.
johnny the fox Posted 17 October 2014 Posted 17 October 2014 I remember when we had the "referendum" to go into the "common market"..nowt about political union at all... power structures by definition draw power to themselves..as I have already said..it has been mission creep... and that always ends in disaster....
