Hamer for Burnley?

I'm not a keeper so forgive me if I'm being stupid here but why don't keepers stand in the middle for free kicks. The wall obviously covers one side but there's always a chance, like today, that it won't work. If you're in the middle you're more or less giving yourself the chance of saving it on both sides.

After the stoke match Hamer deserved to keep his place! It was a poor decision to drop him. He fully deserves a chance against Newcastle.

While that seems sensible, the point of a wall at free kicks is to cover one side, and you cover the other. You provide good cover for one side and have a wall to deal with the other.

The side not covered by the wall is totally exposed, free kick taker has half a goal to aim at under no pressure.

The fact he wasn't in the middle wasn't the problem it was how far across he was.

Our wall barely jumped, if Kasper was expecting them to cover his left he was sadly disappointed.

I think we should have put a player on the line.

I was just about to put the same. He was always going to shoot from that distance and time of the game, just get bodies around the goal and if KS couldn't get to it then it might of hit someone else hanging around

Its not that he made a mistake because all keepers will regularly make them you can't help that, its more to do with he made a really bad error of judgement which he had plenty of time to consider. Before the free kick was being taken I was shouting at the TV that that was going to happen would have expected better with his experience.

lol

Throughout the summer,Hamer made a number of clangers, looked very shaky and people were questioning Pearson's signing in terms of WTF?

Then he has one good game and he should be first choice keeper over the player who was a huge contributory factor in our promotion campaign and who is the keeper of the team sitting 9th in the Prem.

Only on Foxes Talk...

Whilst I agree with others about Kaspers weak points, you are right abut Hamer. Although I didn't even think he was that good against Stoke, people seem to be easily forgetting all the flapping he did at crosses himself as well as a few fumbles. He looked far from comfortable.

Question.

Why don't they put a player on each post for free kicks?

That would allow the opposition to put someone in that area also without being offside or even allow someone to stand right in front of the keeper with the sole objective of blocking their view.

I agree that would be a disadvantage for free kicks in other positions but it couldn't have been a worse plan than what we did yesterday for a free kick taken there.

He was awful today. But Pearson doesn't have the balls to drop him.

He had the balls to drop Cambiasso for Burnley. He had the balls to keep playing Hammond who was performing well despite not being a 'popular' player. He had the balls to drop Nugent who was apparently "untouchable."

I've no doubt he'd do the same for Schmeichel if he feels it's right for the team. He's always said that's his attitude and I believe him.

I think the point people are making is that how can outfield players be picked based on performances e.g. Hammond's performances meant he started in front of james/cambiasso etc...Yet when hamer is arguably MOTM away at stoke he is dropped?

Doesn't sound fair to me.

 MOTM?

For what a double save at the end where the ball was kicked directly at him.

I seriously think people need to watch that game back as he has fumbling stuff plenty in the first half.

It's ridiculous to bench a player who's just signed a 4 year deal on about 40k a week or more. That's the kind of thing which would make the owners doubt Pearson.

No problem with him being benched if he keeps making mistakes and the other keeper had shown himself to be better.

Frankly though Hamer really hasn't shown up well so far in pre season or against Stoke. He was ok, but fumbled several shots and crosses that he got away with first half.

He made a few fumbles in the first 20 minutes or so. After that though, he got a lot better, and was solid. He looked a lot better at coming out for stuff and dealing with crosses in that game then Kasper has so far in any game this season.

I don't expect Hamer to be our number one keeper, and I know he was shaky in pre-season from what I gather. However I think he still deserved another start off the back of that Stoke performance, especially as it was our only clean sheet so far.
