Should smoking be banned in city parks?

Just curious.

Its a drug, a relaxant in a similar vein to tea or coffee. I wouldn't encourage anyone to start but more because of the financial impact rather than health.

Ban it everywhere unless you're in your own private place or designated smoking area.

Hate when some ignorant sod doesn't know where they're blowing their smoke and it's in my face.

Smoke in your own home, cars whatever, fine. I'd rather avoid the disgusting stuff at any cost and if this is a way to do it then fair play in my eyes.

This 100%.

Absolutely fvcking hate most smokers as they don't give two shits whether their smoke blows in your face or not.

This means I hate most smokers, I'd ban it in all public places. It's a fvcking disguisting habbit.

Wouldn't ban it, just a bit too fascist.

I agree with the ignorance of some smokers though who don't seem to care where they blow it.

You should be allowed to deliver a right hander legally to anyone who does it. Upgrade that to a kicking if some smelly scret does it with weed.

Im not a smoker but if im at a park and someone sits next to me and lights a cigarette im not bothered. Unless they specifically look at me and blow it in my face how are they responsible for which way the wind blows the smoke? As its not banned yet they are well within there right to sit next to you and smoke. I wouldnt expect them to move on my account.

If I want to sit in a park and a smoker comes lights up and his smoke goes near me and around me, why should I have to get up and remove myself?

Why should they have to move either? Its not your personal park bench there sitting on and there well within there right to have a fag.

The way i see it if your in a public area out in the open then a bit of passive smoke is not going to do anything to you.

I may be slated for this but i think your body reacts better if you do subject yourself to the odd bit of passive smoke. Surely it can help your body build up a defence for it if it recognises it. If you never subjected yourself to anything bad then when your body is subjected to the smallest amount your body will just shut down.

When i say this i dont mean go and have a line of coke once a year you will be fine i just mean when it comes to passive smoking. I dont like inhaling smoke but in that situation on the park it wouldnt bother me.

That being said my wifes uncle drinks a stupid amount of alcohol a week, Smokes a stupid amount of cigs and eats takeaways every night. Hes skinnier than most men and i reckon if he quit any of the 3 his body would shut down. Its become that dependant on all 3 i dont think his body would survive if he went on the healthy route lol

It bothered me more when I quit. I loved going to the pub and sitting inside, in the warm while my pals went and smoked, and I hated walking through the cloud of smoke outside a hospital entrance or some such. I would ban smoking in those areas, where its guaranteed to be a nuisance. And some parks, like wildlife preserves protected areas ot childs play areas, but not a shitty bit of green with a bench

It is unpleasant being downwind of a smoker when you are enjoying some fresh air.  This is really not enough of an issue to waste time creating and maintaining a band though.  I do think the council should be focussing on providing core services more cost effectively not pissing around with silly ideas like this.

It does piss me off that you cant seem to sit outside a restaurant in the summer without some **** next to you smoking even though they can see you are right there with your kids.  I strongly dislike incosiderate twats though.

I thought this would be more about litter to be honest than a debate about health. The beaches article talks about the impact of littering which i think is legitimate, but the article about parks is more about attempts to "hide a glamorous image and help people quit"???? really?

I dont smoke but bans in parks sounds a bit ridiculous.

What about all the fag ends that litter the floor, and it's even worse on the beach. This is as much as an irritant as smoker nonchalantly blowing smoke into your face.

You could say the same about food wrappers but nobody is talking about banning eating.

That annoys me too. Yesterday I was passing by the station and somebody just in front of me shoved an empty take away box between a telephone box and an electric box thing.. if he had walked another 10 yards there was a litter bin.

Smokers have been driven outside at pubs and restaurants which does not help if people want to sit outside in the summer. They all congregate in one group to make a bigger cloud  of smoke. Parks I suppose it depends on the situation. Weather which way the wind is blowing and if the person is blowing smoke at you or away from you. I do notice people smoking more if I am walking behind them. I rarely bothered about it before. But I don't think it has done me any long term damage. Wrong age to worry now.

Hate smoking, I really do. Biggest turn off for me when growing up was when I realized a girl smoked. Hate it.

But banning it in a public place like a park? That's excessive.

Making it illegal to smoke within 50 ft of an entrace? ( to stop the dreaded smoke cloud from everyone hanging around near an entrace) I'd be up for that.

Can we ban people who smell of curry?

What about people who fart in the gym, can we hang them?

Littering is already illegal so I don't get your point?

What the **** are you doing that close to someone's personal space anyway? If I'm in a park and some weirdo comes and sits close enough that his fag would bother me then it's not the cigarette I'm going to tell him to **** off for.

You can smoke your heart out outside of my personal bubble. But come in to it and you can be murdering baby kittens or eating vegan sandwiches, you're going to get abuse.

Yeah they shouldn't come that close to my space in the first place! The cigarette and the smoke just takes the piss even further.

But why aren't you either moving or telling them to piss off before they even spark up?

Smoke dissipates ridiculously quickly in wide open spaces. I don't believe you've ever actually had smoke blown on you in a park. Do you even go to parks?

This smacks of ridiculous smoke prejudice.

Would you really give someone abuse if they sat next to you in a park? lol

Why should I accommodate to them?

I go to parks and I've had people smoke near me and whoever I'm with. It's off-putting and just annoying.

Why should they accommodate you by stopping smoking?

Well if I'm where I am first why should they get so close and smoke? Surely they can find another spot?

If they're sitting right next to you then maybe you have a legitimate complaint but most of us wouldn't do that , if they're just using the park who are you to say they shouldn't?
