Charl91 Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 No sympathy. To go bankrupt as a footballer in these times, you have to be particularly stupid.
Sir Fynwy Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 The stats say that more than 50 percent of premier league footballers go into bankruptcy, they are mainly thick as shit though.
stevelcfc Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Problem is they spunk it all up the wall while they are playing and then have nothing left when they retire. They should be investing, starting businesses etc, but largely they are to stupid to know what they are doing. They have no qualifications due to the clubs demanding they drop education to focus on their training. Really their agents should be doing things to protect them though, I believe thats what they get paid to do.
davieG Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 They end up with too much time on their hands with no immediate need to work so end up spending their money on things they don't need to fill, the time up and it slips through their fingers without them realising it or as Fynwy says they're too thick to understand what's happening
Sir Fynwy Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Academies have to educate players or they lose their academy status. Razor Ruddock on can't pay we'll take it away was funny.

DB11 Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Sad?! Yeah right to have lived the lifestyle he did as a player and have those experiences most people will never get the chance to do that
FoxesAreBlue Posted 5 November 2014 Author Posted 5 November 2014 I don't feel sorry for him, I'm saying its a sad situation that a (more than likely multi millionaire) has lost all his cash by his mid-fourties.
RowlattsFox Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 Divorce has to play a big part in footballers going bankrupt. That and shot business ventures they have no idea about.
Donut Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 If youre still living in a massive paid for house, theres one huge asset for a start to sell isnt it?
SystonFox Posted 5 November 2014 Posted 5 November 2014 He earnt £20m in his career? Fair enough he's never had £20m in the bank but still I don't know how you spend all that
Freesolo Posted 6 November 2014 Posted 6 November 2014 I don't know how Premier League footballers can go bankrupt, it totally baffles me unless they have a serious gambling addiction or make some seriously bad investments they should have enough money for there families to live a good life even into retirement. Its stupid really but David James has never come across a stupid person, guess he could get a job as a goalkeeping coach with some really good clubs
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 6 November 2014 Posted 6 November 2014 Haven't clicked the link but hasn't an ex rinsed him for a fair portion? No excuse, he has/had a media job too and given the length of his playing career you'd think it'd be nigh on impossible to go bankrupt.

WE WANT PRE-NUP! (Yeeeaaaah!) It's something that you need to have, 'cause when she leave your ass, she gonna leave with half."

Its stupid really but David James has never come across a stupid person, guess he could get a job as a goalkeeping coach with some really good clubs I could be wrong, but I think Bankrupt for them just means they don't have the money to pay for their assets. He could very well be "bankrupt" and still have 10m worth of assets that he can sell. It's very different from your average man on the street going bankrupt.
J.Lisemore Posted 7 November 2014 Posted 7 November 2014 Bankrupt . Only has himself to blame. Its called being responsible with your money.. I can remember Shane Filan from Westlife going bankrupt also, ploughed a sh*load of money into a business' he probably knew nothing about and they went bust.
stripeyfox Posted 7 November 2014 Posted 7 November 2014 But you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out how to spend less than you earn, particularly if you are in the advantageous position of earning in a week what most people earn in a year or more. So to blame footballers for being "thick" is a cop out by them and the people accusing them of it. Plenty of people in regular, low skilled jobs manage not to go bankrupt.

My wife's job involves making people bankrupt, they come from all backgrounds, if you are really poor there is no point in a company or individual making you bankrupt because it costs them money they can't recoup from assets.
surrifox Posted 7 November 2014 Posted 7 November 2014 I thought he was out in India promoting football on the sub continent - doubt if he's doing that for nothing. I wonder if its true that the among the items available are 394 footballs "retrieved" from the back of his net
Itsthejoeker Posted 7 November 2014 Posted 7 November 2014 How much of this is to avoid paying his wife divore settlements?
