Scotland vs England

Impressed with that.  England tonight showed the exact type of intensity, desire and good passing football that we all want to see in this country.  If we played at that tempo against Germany we'd still probably get hammered due to the current gulf in technical ability but I'd have absolutely no complaints about our application as a team.

However for me our support was man of the match.  Truly excellent for 90 minutes.

As for Scotland something tells me we gave them a big surprise both on and off the pitch.  It almost looked and sounded to me like the players and fans both expected to comfortably roll us over tonight.

Utter bollocks.

A tenth of Scotland's population was born elsewhere in the UK (like me). Per person, you are FAR more likely to bump into an Englishman up here than a Jock down there. Unless you hang around tramps in railway stations and underpasses. ;)

We voted No because the majority of us favoured the Union to the fantasy land of Independence proposed by the Yes side.

If you think most Scots hate most English you have obviously not been here much. You are very wrong.

Being an Englishman in Scotland, I find there is definitely a lot of animosity towards the English, even if they didn't vote so in the referendum

This is why I'd love to see the return of the home internationals. I know there's always the problem of dickhead fans but I think it would be a great thing for Britain's international sides.

Tonight's game was so refreshing, there was passion, pride, desire, aggression; it was bloody great. It was like a premier league game - in a good way. Contrast that with the 95% of sides who turn up and park the boss when playing England particularly. Watching England is usually a borefest but the players looked like they were loving it for once.

Home internationals every couple of years would be great for the British game, it would bring a competitive edge that you don't really get outside of a major tournament, it would bring some much needed passion to the modern game, would generate massive revenue and might even help all teams to move up a level.

I'd love to see it. Think how passionate the rugby 6 nations are and multiply that by 100. I appreciate that there's plenty of ***** out there who'd immediately try and **** it up for everyone else.

This. The competitive edge shown today couldn't be replicated in a normal friendly

The only depressing part of the game was realizing that we will not try to play like this against the big sides.

To bring on lambert when you have a young kid in berahino scoring for fun in the premier league, with the knowledge than only berahino is likely to be in the squad at the euro's let alone the world cup showed me that roy isn't quite ready to make that final jump.

Our pace was refreshing to see, and was causing scotland no end of problems...so why bring on lambert when you are getting in behind the opposition at will?

Clyne, Shaw, wilshere, rooney, lallana, ox all excellent. In fact Clyne has already won that right back shirt for the euros in my opinion...won more tackles tonight than Glen Johnson has in his whole career.

To think that welbeck, milner, downing, sterling were all fairly average tonight, with the likes of barkley to improve and gain more experience, as well as sturridge to come back. The squad has as much young talent as i can remember.

Many called the gerrard/lampard/beckham/scholes/owen era the 'golden generation'. But for me this england side has far more pace, power and variety.

Actually enjoyed watching England for once.

Like others have said, the pride, passion and intensity was all on show.

These kind of game should be an annual thing. Gives our lot a good confidence boost as well :D

Was chuckling at those Scott Brown quotes from the Scottish paper most of the day at work. So bitter and small-time it's unreal, just pathetic really.

Glad we humiliated them in their cup final, but let's be honest it's no different to us beating Slovenia, Estonia etc really.

My personal favourites:

"We are brought up to believe beating England is as good as it gets.

We’re going into a game against our arch enemy and that’s the best thing any Scot could experience.”

They barely got near us tonight in pretty much every respect including desire

I know he's been injured and only recently returned after a layoff but the criminal underuse of Ross Barkley by Hodgson pisses me off. He made 1 mistake when he came on tonight and Hodgson layed into him which was caught by the TV cameras. He rarely has a go at players individually, after his comments at the World Cup I wonder if Roy isn't keen on the lad.

Welbeck is really flourishing under Wenger. Being played in his proper position, getting a good run of games. Adds a lot to the team.
