Donut Posted 18 November 2014 Posted 18 November 2014 That was an absolute dictionary definition of a top class away performance, and although there are plenty of England critics around at the moment, no one can complain that wasnt a thoroughly professional and excellent performance. England got on top early in the game, quietened the crowd, controlled the tempo and didnt let the game be played at 1000 miles an hour like the game v Ireland which would have suited Scotland, they pressed the ball in good areas where they could win it back and break quickly, and had real cutting edge going forward. YES it doesnt change that we need to produce in a major tournament, YES no one is saying Scotland are Brazil 70, but it was an England at a low ebb up against Scotland who have been on an excellent run and mixing it with the likes of Germany in their own back yard. Clyne was excellent, slotted into the side comfortably on what could have been a tricky night down the Scotland left with Robertson and Anya, he applied himself brilliantly. I have been his biggest critic in the past, but Wilshere has slotted into the base of the diamond role well, his range of passing tonight was excellent, and the assist for the first goal was almost Pirlo-esque. And the Rooney critics (again, i am one at times) cannot say that he didnt put a real shift in tonight, and the quality for Englands 3rd goal, finished by Rooney was excellent. A real positive performance and signs that slowly but surely, England are getting it right. OF COURSE there are bigger games, and bigger things to come, but i dont think anyone can argue England were a soozefest tonight.

A tenth of Scotland's population was born elsewhere in the UK (like me). Per person, you are FAR more likely to bump into an Englishman up here than a Jock down there. Unless you hang around tramps in railway stations and underpasses. We voted No because the majority of us favoured the Union to the fantasy land of Independence proposed by the Yes side. If you think most Scots hate most English you have obviously not been here much. You are very wrong.

I had to put up with Scots telling me at the weekend they are now better than England and it's so ridiculous to have to listen to, I know we're miles away from the top sides but we're still a mile away from Scotland as well in terms of quality. That was embarrassing, outplayed on the pitch and outsang off it. I'm not going to claim we're anywhere near Germany, but we did fairly well against them in September - I'd be surprised if we finished more than about 6-7 points behind them, which is a drastic improvement from the days of Levein.
Bert Posted 18 November 2014 Posted 18 November 2014 Shown our class tonight. Fantastic performance from start to finish. Defended from the front, controlled the game and were simply head and shoulders above them. Rooney was fantastic, lead by example.

We are talking championSHIP players against championsLEAUGE players. It was only gonna end one way, Gordon said it all, and Roy did very well in his whole approach to the game, he stayed calm, created a few vines and gave a funny post match interview. Cracking friendly imo, thought Jack Wayne and Dan were all great
