Obesity costs us 47 billion a year

Again, just added pressure on the national health. Waste of their time and our money.

People need to be able to control. We all fancy something at one point, but we don't always go out and buy tons of it. I'm not sure if there should be more awareness, like I see stuff about smoking and alcohol but there is little on eating.

Artificial warnings are hardly likely to help those that are obese, they may help prevent people from putting on weight in the first place but I think the fat building up on your body is awareness enough.

I've gained a bit of a spare tyre as I've got older but I'm entirely aware as to why although mine's more to do with a lack of exercise.

Would be interested to see the breakdown of women vs men. Can't remember the last time I saw a white British woman over 35 who wasn't obese. Most of them are wider than they are tall. Hideous.

They should bring in national service for all the fatties, put em in big warehouses full of cycling and rowing machines with generators connected to them , plumbed into the national grid. They get thin and fit and also provide the country with free electricity.

Definitely a nation full of fatties, I'm 5ft 10 and weigh 14 and 1/2 stone, fairly portly but I don't even feel fat when walking through town despite having a bit more pudding than I should, in Australia and New Zealand I feel very weighty compared to the rest of the population. In fact only once in my life have I been called a fat something or other and that was by Spherical Fox on here.

I think when people get to 20stone they should be locked up and force fed salad or something, how people get to that stage I'll never know.

I absolutely love my food though, I should be far bigger than I am but knowing how to cook properly is very helpful, do they still do home economics at school?

Or make people eat rice, never seen a fat Chinese person in my life that wasn't on the news, apart from that 3 year old one who weighed 10 stone, he was so fat his Dad said he couldn't walk to work in the morning.

I've been on 'Slimming World' for the past two months and lost 1 and a half stone. Its lowered my BP and brought my blood sugars down to normal. Its been hard, but worth it. Just takes some self-will and effort.

It's been an eye opener living in Italy for the last 3 months and I rarely ever see people who are massively overweight.

The main differences are 50% of the food in the main supermarkets is fresh, if I want a salad i can go and buy individual leafs of lettuce meaning a great fresh salad can cost me less than 2 euros.

I go jogging most days and even if it's hammering it down it's rare I don't see anyone else on the same route, the last two days I have seen people walking the route i do with a walking stick.

Iv been swimming and the pool was absolutely rammed and not with people who just go to get their bingo wings wet.

I live within 2 miles from 4 huge sports centers with all weather pitches. Fitness and well being is engrained in the culture here, granted they clearly don't work as hard as some in the UK and the weather is better, not all year, so it's easier to eat cheap local fresh food and exercise.

I can't see how this issue will get any better, especially in the UK at any rate.

Nowadays fat people (especially fat women) are treated like an oppressed minority that needs to be saved from abuse by fat-shamers.

We've got a culture now where it's okay to be fat, and those who criticise fat people for being fat are in the wrong. So now it's almost like being fat is no longer even a bad thing.

In my opinion, fat-shaming is a wonderful thing and needs to be more common. However, this kind of viewpoint is seen as increasingly outdated and misogynistic. Just look at the message behind these Cosmopolitan articles. They're basically saying "It's okay to be overweight. Just stay as you are. It's everyone else who's in the wrong".

I think the smoking culture on the continent also plays a part. Everybody knows that smoking curbs the hunger cravings.

Kill two birds with one stone, chop up anyone over 20st, make them into pies. Feed them to poor poverty driven kids in Africa, reduce the aid budget, stop this waste of money and more importantly, reduce the deficit.

Yep, Italians smoke twice as much as we do on average.

I live near Cambridge and in the city itself there are plenty of fat Chinese people.
