MPH Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Are we a nation of fatties? http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/health-30122015 Yeah but to be fair just think of how much money They contribute to the economy too? Im serious though..... billions and billions are spent on food each year generating a plethora in tax for the government not to menion the jobs it supplies. Im all for believing if people want to stuff a few extra burgers into their mouth then thats upto them ( no matter how vile i personally find it). I have yet to see a Mcdonalds employee grab someone in a headlock and drag someone into a McDonalds. or a Supermarket employee secretly stash chocolate and crisps into they trolly. - Inother words (mildly) intelligent adults are excersising their personal choice and right. But then there brings into question the NHS service...... are people possibly suggesting that the current NHS system is unfair in so much we are paying for chubsters healthcare through our own taxes? Healthcare reform might be the solution to that problem then
DennisNedry Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 The normalisation of obesity in society is part of the problem. The plus size model trend is worrying to. Erm, no girls, you're not curvy and sexy, you're just fat and unappealing.
bovril Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Not helped by the "don't judge me" mentality we have imported from the States and the creation of 'fattism'.
Manhattan Project Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 The normalisation of obesity in society is part of the problem. The plus size model trend is worrying to. Erm, no girls, you're not curvy and sexy, you're just fat and unappealing. Absolutely right. The more fat people are turned into an oppressed group in society that needs sympathy and protection, the less likely we are ever to overcome the problem. So many people are fat now that in society we don't recognise an overweight person when one is right in front of us. The whole notion of "average" has moved into the zone that used to be known as "fat".
yorkie1999 Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 If the country was devoid of fatties, would we have to pay 47 billion less in tax. I don't think so.
Guest MattP Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Given our European counterparts are a lot thinner and therefore would spend a lot less than us on healthcare, shouldn't we be sending the EU a multi billlon pound bill to cover a large chunk of this 47 billion to balance it out?
pSinatra Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 I was talking to a personal trainer about what I consider my unhealthy eating habits. I'll think nothing of buying a 6-pack of cherry bakewells & scoffing them in one go. I love cakes & I'm addicted to Jelly Babies........but I hardly ever put any weight on. I don't have a couple of biscuits, I'll eat the whole packet. I'm a pig. My job is physically demanding & I get all the exercise I could ever want. I'm bang in the middle of what is considered a healthy BMI (21.2) & I feel healthy enough for my age. The personal trainer said that my body may not look it, but I will still still be carrying too much fat.......around my vital organs. He gave it a name that I can't remember & he also said that I'm just as likely to have a heart attack as someone who is visibly overweight. I think my heart must be sugar-coated. I'll go into a local Tesco Express during the day & think to myself "I'll have a healthy snack". It's impossible. Unless I buy some poorly produced & tasteless fruit, the only other stuff available to buy is full of sugar, fat or salt. It's not easy to eat healthy even when you want to.

The other problem is that your body get's used to that kind of input so that it's almost addictive and then one day when you find you're not as active as you are now you'll find it difficult to cut back on this diet of yours. That's probably why a lot of ex-sports people get fat.

I know what you mean though, I polish off a whole pack of Jaffa Cakes sometimes and and can eat a pack of six doughnuts if I'm given the chance, it's too nice.
ScouseFox Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 you're not a normal chap if you open a tube of pringles and stop before it's empty imo
purpleronnie Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 I changed my diet about 10 years ago, it's strange how your taste buds change, I now actually crave various seeds and salads...never ever thought that would happen. But one of the main reasons I changed my diet was I've got so many clothes it would cost be a fortune to replace them all.
Stadt Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Can you take some pictures and post them up I love seeing fat Chinese people.Somebody use this on tinder
VLC86 Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 I think the smoking culture on the continent also plays a part. Everybody knows that smoking curbs the hunger cravings. So do you think the obese people in the UK don't smoke?

Vlad the Fox Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Narrow the doors to places like McDonald's. Imagine it, you'd have groups of fatties hanging around outside hassling people like delinquent kids used to for beer outside off licenses. 'Can yer fetch me a Big Mac mister?'

I think the term is "visceral fat" which is fat stored around your major organs. I'm not sure you have too much to worry about though, 21.2 is a great BMI and you do regular exercise. The people who are at risk are thin people who sit at a desk all day so although they are thin, they are not necessarily healthy.
MooseBreath Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 There's no way a personal trainer could tell that just by looking at you and hearing about your diet. He's trying to scare you into thinking you need to pay him to watch you exercise a bit more and that's putting it mildly.

I wouldn't pay a personal trainer to tell me to eat less & exercise more That reminds me, he owes me £70

fuchsntf Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 Skinny people are fat people in disguise and denial. No fat people, who would sit to model for all those buddahs. We need santas for christmas. Where would all the cheerriness go. A fat recession would only lead to austerity and lost pounds. Skinnys would have to find other groups to abuse. Tracksuit sales would be catastrophic, and become obsolete . Jumbo would be lost to history. 0 zeros will become 1ones, 2 fat ladies will never get another mention, bingo could be lost forever. No more crackling. skinny people will become the next target. A big fat NO, will now be replaced by maybe. Things will never finish or come to an end, because there wont be any longer fat ladys to sing.
ithuriel Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 I'm building up my fat reserves for when civilisation collapses after the alien attack and the super intelligent ants invade
Dr The Singh Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 I have the body of a god. Ganesh. Body of a elephant, hey
