LCCFox96 Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Our attack was (and may still be) a problem but the base of our team is a bigger one. If we enter February with Konchesky as our first choice left back that is outright mis-management for me. Even if NP is only to address one more area of the team in this transfer window it has to be this. It's been a problem since the summer and one that needs to change for the good of our own survival.
marbelladave Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 You look in the Premier League also though, surely there's players out there in need of game time, who would be willing to come and help us out. Some of the players the likes of West Brom & Palace have been linked with, would not be unrealistic targets for us. People want a CB, your telling me players like Robert Huth wouldn't want to join us on loan? Mahrez came in and made an immediate impact, there's tones of players who are out there capable of doing that, it just depends where the hell he is looking. As Tripe said you look at the French and Italy leagues for example, even Holland, Belgium, Switzerland as he said, I'd even add Greece & Austria to the mix, there is realistic talent out there who would come to us & if we drop down a division more than likely stay. Players like Okazaki, Defoe, Corluka, take the piss because we either are not willing to pay the fee asked, or wage demands are too much. That isn't going to be the case for every player though, and as I said about the Premier League I bet there's players chomping at the bit to get some game time. You have more faith than I that they would either come or make an impact. We have seen plenty of foreign players who have failed to make the adjustment, let alone make an immediate impact in the Prem, Mahrez did very well last year but that was at a very different level, as I said, just 16 games left, bringing in the sort of players you are talking about would be a big gamble. But that said, we really have little to loose, there is no doubt our squad needs a bit of a shake up.
Clever Fox Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Is Pearson seriously saying that he cannot find any players in Europe, Russia, Africa good enough to improve us. I just don't believe that. Time to get the cheque book out and stop pissing around.it's called wheeling and dealing. There's a few in Russia who just cannot wait to get out.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Well the problem is Pearson didn't strengthen in the summer, we weren't bottom then. 10 years we wait for premier football, then we make a pigs ear of it. In a nutshell. We blew it before a Premier League ball was even kicked. Pearson was out of his depth from from the start.
Giggsy77 Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Yep!!! Lets hope we don't have to wait another 10 years if we go down.
Soar Fox Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 According to Sky Sports, Ronald Koeman has gave Jack Cork a week to decide whether to sign a new contract or not. He's out of contract in the summer we should put a bid now.
CloudFox Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Stephen Hendrie (young Accies left back) has been mentioned in here before I think. West Ham deal has fallen through, but two other Prem clubs are interested, apparently...

Dan Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Even if NP is only to address one more area of the team in this transfer window it has to be this. It's been a problem since the summer and one that needs to change for the good of our own survival. Konchesky started well and part of me wondered if he is the type who just thrives on more defensive situations. I still don't think he's awful defensively but he's so bad as a footballer it's unreal. Percentage passer 90% of the time and not particularly quick. Aimlessly hoofing the ball has been one of our biggest problems all season. We don't have the players to play it and it's shite. I've not made my mind up on Danny Simpson yet but I think he's another who isn't particularly great on the ball. Better defensively than De Laet. Wasilewski is probably our best centre half this season, prone to aimlessly belting it but I think given time on the ball he's the best distributor of it at the back. Morgan is a warrior but like Konchesky, not particularly good on the ball. It's a collective problem.
RedSoxUK Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 I like him, but is he the kind of midfielder we need? I've always seen him as more defensive than creative. An upgrade on Hammond i'd happily play every week. Stephen Hendrie (young Accies left back) has been mentioned in here before I think. st albans fox Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 An upgrade on Hammond i'd happily play every week. I imagine we're one, surprised West Ham are after another LB with Cresswell playing well. perhaps they are contemplating cashing in on him ? the lack of 'noise' from our place shows the balloon heads dont have the same bottle the croats clearly had. (or nowt is happening)
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Pearson on SSN saying we are struggling to bring targets in, Krammy could be it! How surprising! We were stuffed before we kicked a ball this season. Summer transfer window screwed it all up. Was it Robinson, or not?
Liamlcfc1 Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 I like the championship some brilliant awaydays where we are heading if we dont sign anymore quality players

On Simpson I will say this; I did see him a few times playing at Newcastle a few seasons back as family friends of ours were big fans and took us to St. James once or twice. He was exceptionally steady in what was the back four of Santon, Taylor, Coloccini and himself and looked good going forward, albeit with Ben Arfa (back when he was on song) infront of him, getting into space on the overlap and delivering some decent crosses to boot. He's a solid defender and is proven at this level which is more than can be said for the rest of the back line. I'd be surprised if he loose the right back spot anytime soon.
Ric Flair Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Sign that Mings from Ipswich, Alli from Mk Dons, Armstrong from Dundee Utd and Robert Huth from Stoke. NEXT
Clever Fox Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 Simpson has been steady defensively at right back. But at the expense of Delaets attacking prowse. I'd like to see both of them on the right with Mahrez being given the free role of going inside when Delaet is charging up the wing. This would offer a more attacking threat with the added flair of Mahrez to trouble defenders one on one in and around the Box.
Clever Fox Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 I'd love to get Mings and it looks like Upson will make an appearance before too long.

He's out of contract in the summer we should put a bid now. You really think he would come to us. He is at a top 3 side and hanging out on a new contract. He would want megga bucks to come to us. He is just playing the game to try n force Sotton to pay more. No fvcking chance what so ever on this one lol lol

No fvcking chance what so ever on this one lol lol We've just signed one of the hottest young strikers in Europe whilst being bottom of the league so nothing is unrealistic. Yes he could do better than us but sometimes money talks and it's not like he's a regular. He's only played 6 league games this season.
Bettsj2 Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 If we can only sign one more player, we are not gonna stay up by signing a new fvcking left back.
johnny the fox Posted 22 January 2015 Posted 22 January 2015 I'd love to get Mings and it looks like Upson will make an appearance before too long. Upson will make an appearance before long....just like Halleys comet..
Soar Fox Posted 23 January 2015 Posted 23 January 2015 Upson will make an appearance before long....just like Halleys comet.. I actually think Upson's contract will expire before he is fit again.
Donut Posted 23 January 2015 Posted 23 January 2015 How do people draw the conclusion that Robinson was the reason we cant attract the calibre of players? People are effectively saying Robinson was sabbotaging all the deals. This is obviously not the case. The real problem is most likely a scouting network that is too small, or Pearsons targets being unrealistic. Its not just about the league position, because in the summer we were a more attractive club to join than some of the established Premiership clubs. Youre telling me a club with ambitious owners, stability, packed crowds and the prospect of growth wasnt more attractive than a club like Aston Villa where a player wouldnt know at what point the owner sold up and the manager would probably go in a 1/3rd empty stadium??? If theyre holding out till deadline day to get a better deal from clubs whats the point? Relegation will offset all the gains on haggling for a bargain, and whilst these negotiations drag on, league games get played too.
Scotch Posted 23 January 2015 Posted 23 January 2015 Players I would like to see come in before the end of the month. (Realistically) Stephen Hendrie - Hamilton - Good young player who would be relatively cheap and offers more than Konchesky. Would also be willing to play in the Championship if the worst should happen and could turn a profit in a potential future sale. Ikechi Anya - Watford - Quick, hard working left mid with a good touch and can cross. Willing to play in the Championship but in my opinion has the ability for the PL. Charlie Mulgrew - Celtic - Started life as a LB so could play their to take the pressure off Hendrie, more recently plays as a DM and in my opinion offers more than Hammond. (who I am a big fan of) Would also offer options at CB, around the same level as Wes and Was but better on the ball. Also dangerous from set plays which we are missing. Ideal signing for me. I do realize that I may be biased in that I'm Scottish and have suggested 3 Scots, and I know that they might not be the most exciting signings but I feel that these players would add enough to keep us up by addressing issues that we are missing in our team. I also think that they are all realistic and wouldn't break the bank in fees or wages. Thoughts?
