Watched the second half up until Mahrez was subbed off. Poor game and the pitch was awful. Glad they won though i want Mahrez to score the winner in the final

To be honest I'm a better defender than most of these and I'm short and skinny and shit at football

The AFCON is usually a dour affair to be honest, such little quality on display for the most part.

Was quite funny when Ivory coast didn't concede a few goals a few ago yet still didn't win the tournament though lol

If this edition isnt the wake-up call they need to revert it to once every 4 years then they never will. Players looking bored and tired, players withdrawing cos they don't want to go, no fans, every minute i've watched so far has been absolute dog muck for atmosphere and quality.

Could certainly understand suspicions that Bony and Toure were going at 75% just then under orders from City, and if they're doing it there must be more who are. Would certainly explain Mahrez yesterday.

Nothing unexpected there. Just like at a World Cup, where players are put to the test with the amount of games played in between the regular season.

As for the lack of fans, Equatorial Guinea has a population of slightly more than 600'000 ffs. Transportation's a chore, roads are in a bad state (if they're in a state at all), GDP low, etc. Plus, I suppose entrance isn't free. And the two stadiums that hold 10'000 or less spectators are located in the very East of the country, far away from the capital.

Sometimes, I wonder what world we live in when Europeans expect things to automatically work the way they're accustomed to all their life.

Reminds me of good old colonialism.

A little bit of ignorance works miracles, doesn't it?

You can't bully people into not telling the truth by accusing them of ignorance or trying to align them with colonialists.

Some people say what they think and the truth is this tournament is a complete joke in everything from the quality of football to the media coverage of it trying to convince people it's brilliant.

Fair play to anyone who sat through Equatorial Guinea 0-0 Burkina Faso today. It must of been painful.

Don't know what some people are expecting - a large chunk of the teams that have qualified are mediocre anyway and how well have the leading African teams fared at World Cups in the past? That should've given most football fans a clear indication rightaway as far as the standard of play is concerned.

Individual absences were known in advance, so were the struggles putting the tournament together within the space of roughly two months (after Morocco's exit).

It spelt makeshift before the first ball was even kicked.

I sense this kind of Western entitlement culture creeping in here. Entertainment is not a right, you know.

I watch it for the mad bastard goalkeepers

Did you say mad bar steward keepers?

Look no further than this guy:

Yeah alright, he's from the UAE, but you want to know a fun fact?

Due to the number of suspensions this guy gets, he's actually played more games internationally than he has domestically. (65 Caps for the UAE vs 41 appearances for 3 UAE clubs in an 10 year career. Do note that he's first choice as well.)

Now that is a mad bar steward keeper.

This doesn't seem to back that up haha. I prefer your version of events though! :P

Hmm, according to wiki and FM15, both suggest he has 60+ caps. Wiki says 41 club appearances, FM15 says 55 domestic appearances. (Then again, is 55-45 that much better? lol.) Looking at the league, there are seasons where the most a player could play was 10 games due running the league in groups. These days, it looks like it's run like a proper league, with 26 games this year (Used to be 22 games a season) Considering the guy had to be first choice, missed years before due to suspension (He has spent a lot of time being suspended with his crazy acts), and combined with the regional tournaments held internationally, I think there's a very good chance that the guy either has more UAE caps than club caps, or the ratio is crazy high.
