That has to be it. Pearson needs to go.

I think, in almost every game since Burnley at home, we've suffered from at least one big lapse of concentration and it's now up to the coaching staff and the manager to finally get rid of the last few pieces of that attitude.

.Sports psychologist require to give them concentration esp when we have gone a goal up - this would be cheaper than changing the manager

The one thing in our favour is that the team still seem to back Nigel.

I suspect that he will go this week, but I will be sorry to see it happen.

Very few of our players have made the step up to this division, but they are mostly young and may be Premier League in the future. The alternative view is that we need to start again from scratch, and that cannot be done in a month or with no one on the horizon who wants to sign for us.

My conclusion: stick with Nigel and his staff, and see what he can do. The alternative is no better, and possibly worse.

Well we're bottom so it cant actually get worse.

We've only been bottom for the past few days, so there you go.

Results have been cruel, yet we usually come away as losers by a fine margin. It can't take that much to amass points once more.

And we last won a game when exactly? Oh yes, the Man U game...

Did you think this season would be a walk in the park?

Seriously?

When did I say that?

I thought we would struggle, but if we brought in some decent players in the Summer we could stay up.

We didn't bring in some decent players.

I cannot fault the effort just lack of quality at this level. What really concerns me is that the club seems to have sunk so fact into crisis. What ever the provocation NP should not reacted to the fans with a four letter outburst. It was just unprofessional but reflects the pressure he is under.Even worse was the owners being abused if they were to walk away where would be then? Tony Pulis for me and with the Stoke connection through our DOF I can hope!

Very poor again today. No quality at either end where it matters most. I don't want to rock the boat and have people sacked but we're paying for our lack of proper spending on proper quality in the summer. We'll get nothing from the next two games then be well and truly adrift.

The effort is there but the quality just isn't. We're still a decent championship style side but that won't cut it at this level. Don't think it really matters who comes in as by the time they have the transfer window we could be too far adrift.

What's O'Neill in a "consultancy role" supposed to help us this season? Leave those nostalgia blinkers at home, focus on the task ahead and realize we all need to pull in one direction to get results and also need lady luck swinging our way in the games to come.

I think, in almost every game since Burnley at home, we've suffered from at least one big lapse of concentration and it's now up to the coaching staff and the manager to finally get rid of the last few pieces of that attitude.

All in all, I can't criticize the team on the whole that much. It's not like they're not trying. But some of the decisions so far against us have been farcical and individual mistakes have cost us dearly.

Hold on a minute, I wasn't saying I want this to happen, I was just referring to a message about how LIKELY it was to happen.

But of course there are benefits of having all sorts of people in all sorts of roles. He'd bring to that job what lots of others would, should the club deem it necessary. I'm sure they already seek people's opinions in that sort of capacity, for example in looking for a second opinion on transfer policy. If we're seriously talking about adding to the coaching staff, then the consultants and go to the board and say 'in my independent opinion, we need a guy who can specialise in set pieces' or whatever.

But I'm not pleading for O'Neill to return, and suspect his presence - while it might on the one hand provide a boost - could also be a major distraction. So I'd actually agree with you and say our focus should be on how to make Nigel Pearson do a better job as manager of a Premier League club, rather than getting rid of him and just hoping that someone else is a bit better.

23 games of the season left.

We need about 10 wins to survive.

Can you realistically see NP achieving that the answer is NO!

Bring in someone that has managed at premier league level recently i.e the past 2 seasons. For me Pulis would keep us up and bring in the required quality in January to keep us in the prem.

Don't sack him. The players gave 100% and I felt they deserved something. We're so close to being a very competitive side at this level that it makes all the more painful.

And I really liked his post-match reaction, focusing on our weaknesses rather than those of the referee. Moore was terrible, Schlupp and Konchesky were missing for the 2nd, James wasn't his usual self and, while Nugent did well, we lacked that physical presence second half. But their first goal was excellent as well, and both keepers had work to do.

If we play well and lose then I'm proud of them and behind the manager. If he responds in the right way, then even more so. I don't have any complaints about Pearson today, we did very well against a side playing at their best. I feel for them, but am still proud to be a fan when they play like this. In truth, considering their performances in the past four games - defensive mishaps and all - it's insane to think we've only picked up a point.

Keep going and we'll prove to be a side who can go on a run. And if we don't, but play with the quality and commitment I've seen recently, then the 'Pearson in no matter what' brigade may well turn out to be right.

Did you honestly think they deserved something ? We are no where near being a " competitive " side in this league. We are rock bottom and deservedly so. You are proud to be a fan when they play like this ?  I have never read such a load of bum licking twaddle in my life . you are wrong on every single statement.  :D

It's unfortunate that so much promise has turned to despair.

At the end of last season, nobody (including all those posting shit like, 'what did you expect? Get real') expected us to be in this position. Maybe 16th or 17th but not bottom and cut adrift from safety.

I'm afraid the excuses are drying up. The smiley faces with 'only 1 point from 17th' are now gone. The yearning for 4-4-2 etc is all just a mask.

Nigel Pearson does not have the qualities needed to be a Premiership manager. Our best chance to survive is to have a change at the top. If the thinking is that we can go up with Pearson next year then i'd be very disappointed.

We've waited 10 years, Pearson has had the last 3 to prepare for it and it looks like its been for nought.

To STILL be conceding goals like the 1st today is bloody criminal and to STILL be resorting to hoofball when we're behind is ridiculous.

I dont want to be right about this but tell me something that proves me wrong.

Please.

I did. Pearson attempted to con me that these players were good enough. He lied.

As stated: Championship mentality will be his downfall. The chickens are coming home to roost.

Well, we have gotten results earlier in the season with the same core of players, so something tells me it's not so much the players per se, but something's taken a huge toll after surrendering that 2-1 lead against Burnley.

We've somehow never looked the same ever since.

I still believe in this squad as well as the manager and can't wait for January.

Yes, true. But thinking back to the early games in the season, each match was a mad scramble with salvos of shots flying in from the opposition and our defenders throwing their bodies on the line to block them. We scored a few goals after really going at the opposition. We treated each game like a cup final.

That type of performance cannot be sustained and we've adapted to playing at the level but, unfortunately, not very well.

In the past few games, we've actually been playing at a level near to that of the opposition, but have been proven not good enough.

It pains me to think it, but I reckon the early games in the season were a bit of a false dawn.

I think, individually, most of our players are capable of doing well in the league. But I think that collectively the inexperience is too great.

Obviously, I hope I'm wrong.

I've seen some bollocks posted today but that about tops the lot.

If we win 1 in 2 (near enough) from now until the end of the season we'll finish nearer mid table than bottom.

Yes I did think we deserved something and yes I am proud to be a fan when we look as lively as we did today. Sides have played a lot worse than that, had fewer chances and got results. We played against a side at their best and could have got something. If you disagree on these two counts, as you appear to, then there's no hope!

I criticise Pearson a lot, and I fully appreciate there's a strong argument, and has been for some time, for him to go. But credit where due.

I truly believe that 40 points is needed to survive that is the worst case scenario, between 30-40 points will be enough,  like it usually is season after season at this level so we still need to win about 8-10 games to survive, and I cannot see that happening with NP imo.

We didn't bring in some decent players.

We either haven't brought them in YET or our current squad still has something to answer for.

I'd like to see the latter working out for the better this month and astute additions being signed in January.

There's hope - some are just too blind to see it.
