I genuinely do want Schlupp to succeed but I will be surprised if he manages 50 games at this level. Certainly not on the wing anyway. I was quite encouraged by his performance at left back.

That's cool, and we always ask for our own products to get a chance in the team, but he's had a chance and he isn't ready. Players of his current ability shouldn't be in our first team if we want to stay in the league.  Unfortunately Knocky isn't good enough either according to Pearson, and Albrighton sure as hell isn't, so it looks like we need to do some serious business in January.

Jeff Schlupp

2 goals....at least 3 assists...

Not good enough? Pfffft. He is our second top scorer and has more assists than any other player.

That's also cool, just ignore the entire conversation which addresses your post prior to it being made.  We're having fun.

You claimed Mahrez has more assists.....he doesn't.

I never said Jeff was a better player than Mahrez...but maybe our fans need to realize what a 'better' player is at this level.

Gerrard was, in my opinion, very quiet, slow and unfit looking against us. But was involved in every goal, and received pundits claiming he was 'back at his best' etc.

Stats for a player are no different to results for a manager, both are a measure of how effective/ineffective a player/manager. Jeff may kick the ball over the bar 10 times, whilst mahrez may only do it twice, but if schlupp is the only one making the assist, then he is the more 'effective' player.

It is like the fans who slagged dyer off for playing so many poor final balls, but yet was still our most constant source of creating chances.

Just look at tonight, Van persie handed a goal by Fonte, but still given man of the match.

shows you how bad schlupps overall game is that he can have some not bad looking stats yet still be one of the worst players I've ever seen play football at any level, let alone the highest one.

His touch does seem to have got worse. Maybe as a left back with the game in front of him and the ability to run onto passes with his pace on the overlap he might get better. He's not subtle or composed enough for midfield or instinctive enough for a striker in my opinion (let's face it, his goal, good as it was, against QPR was a swinger).

Jeff is blessed with pace and after 5 minutes left that Hutton for dead, this is his strength and should be utilised just like Dyer use to.

You may not agree with me yet I think Konchesky is half the reason Jeff doesn't bomb on,he is to slow to get up the field,so Pearson has put the shackles on him for fear of the counter attack and leaving us exposed.

Same as the other flank,De Laet was making countless overlaps last season, how many has he done this season? hardly any because Mahrez isn't very good at covering ,so result is De Laet has become very ineffective, which is a shame because that big part of why we won the league last year.

4-4-2 does not suit us with the players we have got and that's for all see.

As for Jeff I would leave him out of the team until we get an attacking left back, then he could prosper.

I've always thought Knockaert would be better in the centre as a 'number 10'.

Mahrez on the left if he fancies Albrighton, whichever side if he doesn't.

Schlupp will never ever be a Premier League winger. Totally out of his depth. He is pure physique.

even the sun shines on a dogs ass some day.

Jeff Schlupp is not good enough for this level.  Certainly not in the positions he is playing in.  He lacks composure, loses the ball too easily and doesn't have the positional sense needed at this level.

I have nothing against the individual, but from purely an ability perspective, he won't cut it.

I don't get the Schlupp slanging either. He's not one of our worst this season, there are others who look more out there depth, such as, Nuge, De Last, Konch, Knocky, Wood, Vardy and drinky (both think potential to do the biz).

I've slated De Laet plenty but the more I think about it, the more the cover in front of him just hasn't been good enough. His pace helps him and us massively. Also he does have the ability to keep a man quiet all game (see Sanchez and Sterling). You've got to remember De Laet is also still fairly young. He's certainly not our worst FB.

Good post. I disagree with the last point though. Last season Jeff added a lot as a LB who could support his winger. To me it's a no-brainer, esp with Konch's overdue and enforced unavailability -put Jeff at LB, switch Mahrez to LW. De Last would be more effective at RB with someone in front who will track back when needed (not sure who is best option here). We are always more effective with full backs who have the freedom to bomb on with speed. As for Knocky, I agree that central playmaker is the role he's most suited to - but unsure he will be up to this level (given the opportunity he might grow into it, though).

As inconsistent some of his performances can be, anything positive though tends to come from him.

Dropping him would be a mistake IMO

No you're not, but if Ulloa was the main striker with Knockaert off him, they'd be no pace whatsoever. So that wouldn't work

Apart from winning the league I just want us to try Knockaert or Mahrez in place of Nugent, he and GTF won't be good enough next season in that role yet they are the only two being played there.

I have doubts Knockaert will have as much impact next season out wide due to his lack of pace, we should see what he can do more central.

I can't understand why we don't try Knockaert or mahrez in the Nugent role behind the striker.

Hopefully one day we'll get to see this, a lot of people rave about it and it's something I'm really looking forward too.

Even better if you know him can you ask him to use it on about 2.54 here so we can stop the opposition player kicking it in the goal? (Someone also feel free to explain just what Villa player he was covering here as well if they want, as bizarrely some have tried to claim he was doing)

The more I see that second goal the more it annoys me

Schupp had given up it seems with no real effort to block the shot and for kasper to get beat at the near post is criminal could understand if it was a rocket of a shot

lol their second goal oh man why was jeff so scared of tackling someone or even being near the ball?

No effort from Schlupp at all is there. Never noticed that in real time, but watching it back is so annoying.

Think Knocks would suit the role. Think a prem quality number 10 is missing from the squad though, and is utilised so heavily in modern formations.

I had to go back and watch it again when I started reading people saying 'Jeff had ran 70 yards to pick up their striker' which I knew was complete and utter bollocks even from my pissed up state watching it Sunday.

His lack of effort in closing people down (that follows on from Liverpool as well with the ball in for the first goal) is something that has to stop.
