Bayfox Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 Runs the club the right way sticking to budgets, bringing in youth where he can. But is stubborn, doesn't seem to have a plan b and from what I can make out, clearly doesn't work on set pieces in training.
Harry - LCFC Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 I'd say the biggest criticism of Wenger is the long barren spell that Arsenal had (and will probably continue to have). Pearson has been the opposite on the whole.
Fox92 Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 Suppose it depends on what your expectations are? As a fan, as a club. (Arsenal, for instance, are a big club and should be competing for the league title but they don't).

Guest MattP Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 Wenger is a victim of his own success. (As it now appears NP is) They don't even have a right to finish in the top four on the budget he has compared to Liverpool, Man U, Man City and Chelsea but the fact he has done it 17 years on the trot and built a double winning side on a relative pittance a decade ago they all demand he does it again. Arsenal's budget is similar to Spurs' and Everton's and their fans don't go around demanding to be challenging for the title, had they won a double a few years back and finished consistently 3rd and 4th they probably would do. I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal drop into a regular 6th-8th spot once Arsene packs it in and the club start doing a Spurs with regard to managers coming on a merry go round.

Wenger has done a mega job on his budget. He has stayed in the top 4 whilst the club (not a sugar daddy) paid off a new stadium. They are now pretty much debt free and make massive money. They are well placed for success in the forseeable future because of him. I'd like to see him win a European trophy before he retires, he deserves it.

Arsenal have a budget but chose not to spend on players they need. you honestly think they have a similar budget to everton? laughable
Guest MattP Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 Without CL money the budget is very similar of the two clubs. Have a look at the accounts. Reverse the league finishes and the difference is far less than you think. Everton are in the business of buying 30 million strikers these days.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 Wenger is Wenger, and Pearson is Pearson. No comparison really.
kingfox Posted 10 December 2014 Posted 10 December 2014 If your milk goes stale, what do you do with it? Don't put it back in the fridge do ya. He's done a lot of good for the club, but it's time to go.

Everton are in the business of buying 30 million strikers these days. my point wasn't about the money. but you raise an interesting point. everton's 30 million purchase was our ulloa. they often spend big but normally on 1 player. yak, fellani etc. However arsenal admit on a regular basis as shareholders meetings etc to having over 100 million in cash reserves sat in a bank account. wenger just doesn't use it that often.

I've seen the accounts, arsenal are one of the richest clubs in the world. Wenger doesn't spend it even when given the opportunity until recent years with big buys... I think for 14 years or something their biggest spend on a player was 12 million or something under wenger, can't remember where I saw that though. He's done absolutely fantastic having spent what he's spent keeping them up there, now they are debt free and the stadium is paid off, it's time to get some silverware. If not he needs to go, no excuses now.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 11 December 2014 Posted 11 December 2014 Arsenal have spent nothing, apart from the £1.5 billion pounds on wages in the last 10 years.
