davieG Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Algerian international Riyad Mahrez could be leaving Leicester just a year after he signed for the club. The former Le Havre winger is being chased by Roma in Italy and La Liga side Villarreal. Leicester boss Nigel Pearson is not keen to let the 23-year-old go, but the Premier League strugglers could do business if they receive a January bid in excess of £3million. Babylon Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 £3m... yeah right. Why the hell would be even consider it.
davieG Posted 15 December 2014 Author Posted 15 December 2014 £3m... yeah right. Why the hell would be even consider it. Could be a contract clause?
Stevosevic Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 That really is peanuts when McGoldrick is valued at £7.5million.
CosbehFox Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 My gut is that Riyad is beginning to believe in his hype as opposed to his ability. His constant trips away with the Algeria team will be full of players in the CL etc. He's probably getting his head turned. My brother pointed out yesterday; he found seems more up for it playing the likes of Man City than the West Brom's etc.
Maybes Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 £3m . Double/even treble that for starters. My gut is that Riyad is beginning to believe in his hype as opposed to his ability. My brother pointed out yesterday; he found seems more up for it playing the likes of Man City than the West Brom's etc. Same as the rest of the squad then?
Babylon Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Could be a contract clause? I wouldn't have thought so, he was pretty much a nobody when we signed him.
Itsthejoeker Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Don't bloody think so, Nige never lets players go in January.
davieG Posted 15 December 2014 Author Posted 15 December 2014 I wouldn't have thought so, he was pretty much a nobody when we signed him. Unless he has a streetwise agent who gets a release clause put in all his players contracts
cityfanlee23 Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I wouldnt be surprised to see him go for under 5m, People seem to think we hold the cards when we have a player who is better than the rest of the team and we are bottom of the league, with MASSIVE european clubs sniffing around... If Roma or villareal offered 5m I can guarantee Riyad mahrez would be banging pearsons door down, this is his career and he owes us nothing. We approached riyad to sign remember, he doesn't owe us any favours, and the way some of our fans scream abuse at him when he loses the ball actually trying to be positive, he doesn't owe us loyalty. When top clubs bid for bottom clubs players they are massively cheaper, due to the attraction that club brings, its easy for riyad to look good in our team anyway, so it would be a gamble for clubs to bid 10m for him... Put him in the champions league and against the elite in europe and can you see him ripping players like bale apart? no...

Ian W LCFC Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 3 million is laughable. I'd say he's worth around 8 million. He's an excellent player with raw skill, if he improves his decision making he could be excellent.

You don't just give players away because a big club comes knocking, if anything you charge them more.
Guest MattP Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 He's worth more than that. Any truth and I'll think he'll be off though, he showed on Twitter when we were chasing him he doesn't mind stirring up a bit of PR to move to a bigger club. I said at the time worst thing that could happen was him being called up to the Algeria squad, for all sorts of reasons. .
Focks Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I don't believe Villarreal to be any bigger than us ... queue a load of stats from a dickhead stating the point
BlueJoe Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Why would anyone buy a player in Jan that you're going to lose for the ACN? Everyone costs more in Jan and if you don't need him then you're not gaining anything!
MPH Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Hmmm... intresting...... Isnt it Villerreal who have Vietto?
Guest MattP Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I don't believe Villarreal to be any bigger than us ... queue a load of stats from a dickhead stating the point In terms of ground/money/actual trophies not much difference. Villarreal have serious recent history through, La Liga runners up and Champions league seni finalists in the last ten years. One of those smaller Spanish clubs who take advantage of the fact they don't need work permits to procure youth South American talent for peanuts.
cityfanlee23 Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 So why is McGoldrick getting values of £7.5m? Because at the time we were a club who had reportedly a huge pot of money and had already put in 3 bids for ulloa and deeney at ridiculous prices, Media completely overplayed, We are only a bottom 3 premiership club who NEEDED to improve the team which means we have to overpay for players, Roma are a HUGE club, who could offer mahrez double or even triple his wages not even sweat about it, which puts us under huge pressure to let an unhappy player go. do you really think if roma offered Mahrez 50k per week he would want to stay here? Different stature of clubs makes a big impact on prices paid... bigger clubs can tend to force a lower price because of the attraction to a player, unless you're united paying for luke shaw of course
MC Prussian Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Well, he needs more playing time to put in more shifts. He's shown glimpses of genius, but hasn't really overly convinced me he can make it up to this point. I think he's underachieved to a certain extent so far, whether that's down to him or the system we're playing, I can't tell. Still strikes me as somewhat lightweight (yes, I know about Eden Hazard).
Donut Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 The way these things work when a big boy comes in pretty much always ends in losing the player. Big boy comes in with a bid. Club dont like the bid, but the player in question knows of the link to the bigger club. Player gets frustrated when club reject the bid. Says the club are holding him back, his head is turned, he becomes unhappy and starts giving the club very little in return. Puts in a transfer request, or starts chirping in the ear of the other players around the club, damaging the overall morale. Smaller club dont want to keep annoyed player. So either try and sign him up to a bigger contract to match what he would get, bringing its own problems, or look to sell him. Big club comes back, player leaves.
GingerrrFox Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 If Roma want him I think he deserves the chance to make the step if those are his wishes. However I wouldn't let him leave for less than £10 million.
cc_star Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Pearson's not let anyone go yet, supposedly excellent bids were made for at least Vardy & Morgan last January & were turned straight down
Guest ttfn Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 If Roma want him I think he deserves the chance to make the step if those are his wishes. However I wouldn't let him leave for less than £10 million. Basically this. We don't need to sell him, he's our most creative (and arguably best) player and we need him to stand any chance of survival. Bidding starts at £10m as far as I'm concerned.
