cjslcfc Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 If Roma want him I think he deserves the chance to make the step if those are his wishes. However I wouldn't let him leave for less than £10 million. Wholeheartedly agree. I'm sure Riyad could get a move in June should we be relegated anyway...
cc_star Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Because at the time we were a club who had reportedly a huge pot of money and had already put in 3 bids for ulloa and deeney at ridiculous prices, Media completely overplayed, We are only a bottom 3 premiership club who NEEDED to improve the team which means we have to overpay for players, Roma are a HUGE club, who could offer mahrez double or even triple his wages not even sweat about it, which puts us under huge pressure to let an unhappy player go. do you really think if roma offered Mahrez 50k per week he would want to stay here? Different stature of clubs makes a big impact on prices paid... bigger clubs can tend to force a lower price because of the attraction to a player, unless you're united paying for luke shaw of course Premier League clubs have much higher revenues than Seria A clubs, sure there's a whole different prestige playing for Roma over us, but wages over there wouldn't be silly and certainly not out of a Premier League club's reach We've not broke the bank to get Cambiasso from a wages point of view and he's been a regular title winner, Champions League ever present & international starter for a top country
MrSpaM Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I don't think there's any way he'd get in either of their starting 11 tbh, can't see him leaving to sit on the bench somewhere

Totti is still on about 100k per week.
Dan Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 If we sell him for three million I'm getting a rope.
ronnup Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Replacing him is the real issue. If we can then fine. But we didnt so much in the summer, and I tjink thenkanuary window will be soul destroying given our desperate position.
Dan Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Pearson's not let anyone go yet, supposedly excellent bids were made for at least Vardy & Morgan last January & were turned straight down Yeah, not from Roma though.
davieG Posted 15 December 2014 Author Posted 15 December 2014 No doubt you're correct, but I cannot see mahrez ever troubling the top earners, and roma could easily beat us in wages. Totti is still on about 100k per week. You're only looking at it from one side. We'd need to find a replacement and I think everyone is agreed we'd need to pay over the odds for anyone who was decent so we're hardly likely to let Mahrez go that easily or for so little.
LCFC1996 Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 He wouldn't get any more than around £10k a week at Roma, to put it into perspective Destro isn't on much more than £20k per week.
kingfox Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I'd let him go for £4 million. Can be great, can be bad. Just another player who is vastly overrated by fans, when most of the time he is inconsistent.
LCFC FOX Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 He's been poor this season, especially away from home all he seems to do is lose the ball
BlueJoe Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I'd let him go for £4 million. Can be great, can be bad. Just another player who is vastly overrated by fans, when most of the time he is inconsistent. You talk to much sense get off of this forum!!!
Dan Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I'd let him go for £4 million. Can be great, can be bad. Just another player who is vastly overrated by fans, when most of the time he is inconsistent. Yet you like Schlupp, the king of consistency. If we sell a player to Roma for that price it's laughable. Utterly laughable. If Roma are judging him as good enough then why on earth are we taking four million?
AKCJ Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I'd let him go for £4 million. Can be great, can be bad. Just another player who is vastly overrated by fans, when most of the time he is inconsistent. Yet you spaff your knickers over Patrick ****ing Bamford.
Bettsj2 Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I'd let him go for £4 million. Can be great, can be bad. Just another player who is vastly overrated by fans, when most of the time he is inconsistent. This. He's not played consistently well at this level at all and has no other top level experience so to be saying £10m minimum is ridiculous. £4m with a sell on clause would be about right especially if he'll be gone for a few weeks in Africa. Besides, Tom Lawrence is looking every inch his replacement in January.
Stadt Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 When we are linked with players "No chance." "Agent talk" "Lazy journalism" Our player get linked and it's 100% true.
Robin JD Popley Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Although he hasn't always been on it this season, he has been one of our few bright sparks and if we are to have any chance of staying up, we'd be stupid to look at offers like that unless; a) Riyad himself wanted to force a move away, b) There were sufficient add-ons/sell on clauses, or, c) We already had a replacement lined up who could be as game-changing. Considering the management had been tracking the lad for some time, it would be a big disappointment to them on a personal level should he opt for option a as I have listed above. Davie has also posted an article in another thread reiterating the fact that Nigel may struggle to buy many more players in January - that to me is more worrying than the hypothetical interest from Villarreal and Roma for one of our current squad.
kingfox Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 You talk to much sense get off of this forum!!! You being sarcastic mate  Yet you like Schlupp, the king of consistency. If we sell a player to Roma for that price it's laughable. Utterly laughable. If Roma are judging him as good enough then why on earth are we taking four million? I agree Schlupp is inconsistent, but what frustrates me is, is when fans call him crap and basically say he is Championship standard, when in my opinion he has performed pretty well at times this season, there have been far worse performers than him. Mahrez for me is overrated, as I said he can be great, yet he can be bad. Fans suck up to him, act like he is a gift from god when most of the time he is inconsistent, just because you have a bit of flair it doesn't make you instantly great, same applies to Knockaert bang average footballer yet for some reason fans love him. Yet you spaff your knickers over Patrick ****ing Bamford. So what if I rate him. I liked the look of him when at MK Dons, yet you all told me to shut up, he is nothing special blah blah blah. Yet since then he has gone on to perform well at Derby & Middlesbrough, so I guess he can't be that bad
itsaknockeart Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 To the tune of 'Love and Marriage'... Riyad Mahrez Riyad Mahrez With a trick or two he will embarrass Your best defender Sadly he'll be sold in December
hesapeepingtom Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 3 million is laughable. I'd say he's worth around 8 million. He's an excellent player with raw skill, if he improves his decision making he could be excellent. Never in a million years is he worth 8 million.what's he done? 3 mill is right.
cjslcfc Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Never in a million years is he worth 8 million.what's he done? 3 mill is right. In today's market he's worth more than £3 million.
Guest ttfn Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 Regardless of what you think the value of our players is in an objective market where everyone has equal money, that is not how it works in the real world. We would be mad to sell any of our key players (of which at the moment there are about 2!) for anything less than £10 million when there is £60 million a year minimum of prize money up for grabs just for staying in the league. Mahrez could be the difference between us staying up and going down this season. Even if he's worth £4 million to Roma or Villarreal he's worth much more to us at the moment. If they're happy to pay £4 million now (for example) they'll still pay it in the summer because we still wouldn't have to sell him. Who realistically are we going to buy with £4 million to replace him? At least with £10 million we might buy somebody good but even then they'd have to adapt very quickly to give us a shot at staying up.

Not quite as awful as some make out, but still someone I'm not convinced is good enough. It just amazes me how when watching the two anyone can believe Schlupp is a better player. Mahrez has more than 'a bit of flair'. Look at some of the through balls he plays. Superb vision to go with his skill. He would flourish in a better side IMO and would have a hell of a lot more assists. He'd be on at least five if it wasn't for poor finishing.
ALC Fox Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I think he's made for La Liga personally. Maybe on the right of a front 3. I'd be very concerned if we let him go for anything under £7m though, unless there's a release clause. Replacing him would be difficult, especially as he's just about the only player who looks like he can break the opposition's defensive line. Despite that, he is inconsistent, his set-pieces aren't brilliant, and he's prone to taking the wrong option. I don't think losing him would be the end of the world or necessarily mean we're nailed on for relegation. Either we replace him for a similar type of player (by raiding Europe again in the knowledge that Rudkin will probably just say yes to whoever Pearson, Shakey and Walsh have got on their shopping list), or get Knocky back on that wing. Or we change our style of play and use Albrighton/a new signing.
