AKCJ Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Are absolutely huge games and home wins are an absolute must. Leicester vs Aston Villa - January 10th Leicester vs Stoke - January 17th Leicester vs Palace - February 7th
Sharpe's Fox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Hopefully we can get at least 6 points from them. Those teams will come to spoil and not be open and we will have to graft.
Matt Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Been here before though, after the Man Utd, I said we must stay focused and it counted for nothing unless we did well in the 'easier', more 'winnable' games in the run that followed that Man Utd game and I got slated for having that view. We didn't. I know I keep bringing it up, I feel like i'm coming across as saying "I told you so" but honestly i'm not, I'm just saying what happened, we must focus and not make the same mistake. I've just said in the Hull Post Match Thread, enjoy it today, we've ****ing won, but I want/we need a minimum of a draw v Liverpool then we need to knuckle down and get some wins out of the games that have been mention in this thread. We have to compete, no ****ing up this time!
Stevosevic Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Agree with Matt. Our home form has let us down, we lost to WBA and drew with Burnley and Sunderland. Wins in the next three league home games is essential.
lavrentis Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 No reason why we couldn't get 9 points here
lgfualol Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Shame we ****ed up all our winnable games already. (Apart from this one)
Spicer Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Agreed. We really need to have a big three games against these three teams. I think we need to beat Newcastle in the cup, we all remember when we lost to Huddersfield in the cup a couple of seasons ago.
ealingfox Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Three performances just like Spurs and I'd be confident enough of getting 6 or 7 points. Let's hope we've done some business before the 10th.
Guest Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Are absolutely huge games and home wins are an absolute must. Leicester vs Aston Villa - January 10th Leicester vs Stoke - January 17th Leicester vs Palace - February 7th 9 pts from them would almost secure survival given how weak some of the teams at the bottom are.
lestajigs Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 9 pts from them would almost secure survival given how weak some of the teams at the bottom are. No chance, we need more 22pts to stay up,
Stan Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Don't discount us picking up a couple more scrappy away wins as well.
Nuneaton.Fox Posted 29 December 2014 Posted 29 December 2014 Whatever he does, Pearson must not bring out the diamond. At least until we've got some players that can actually make that formation work!
Captain... Posted 29 December 2014 Posted 29 December 2014 Are absolutely huge games and home wins are an absolute must. Leicester vs Aston Villa - January 10th Leicester vs Stoke - January 17th Leicester vs Palace - February 7th It's such a pisser we are losing 2 of our players for that run. I disagree about needing to pick up anything at Anfield, a good performance is more important if we take it to Liverpool give them a right scare and lose it will set us up better for these home games than a backs to the wall holding on for dear life to snatch a point type performance.
crisp packet Posted 29 December 2014 Posted 29 December 2014 Can we stop looking to far ahead plz ?? Stop stating the bloody obvious! We need points full stop.... Every time we have a thread like this we go on mad losing runs!!! We have just played the 'EASY teams' and took 5 points out of 42 ! FFS
shailen Posted 29 December 2014 Posted 29 December 2014 I think we are lucky that the quality of the league this year is worse than in previous years, and therefore it is likely that we will need less points to survive than the magic 40 points mark. Having said that I'd rather take points from these games than against Chelsea, Man City...etc, because it stops them from gaining points. But every game from now is important, we need to pick more points up, and I'd like to see a greater and more positive intent in games in order to do so.

I have no idea where this magic 40 points mark has appeared from but all sorts of fans and people seem to earmark it as the target to stay up. Granted, it would definitely keep you up pretty much every year but the target we are likely to need is a bit lower. Let's go through what points would have kept teams up for the previous 11 seasons: 2013/14 - 34 points 2012/13 - 37 points 2011/12 - 37 points 2010/11 - 40 points 2009/10 - 31 points 2008/09 - 35 points 2007/08 - 36 points 2006/07 - 38 points 2005/06 - 35 points 2004/05 - 34 points 2003/04 - 34 points That's an average of around 35.5 points. If this is supposedly a "poor league" then we are looking at having to get closer to the 35 mark than the 40 mark.

We should target the maximum points needed to stay up, only then can you guarantee safety. That's where the magic 40 points comes from. I agree that we are likely to need less points to stay up but our target should remain 40 points.
Dan Posted 29 December 2014 Posted 29 December 2014 At least 7 points for me. Not claiming that's what we'll get, but should we buy properly in January, we need to be aiming for that. We're playing catch up and we need to pick points up at some stage. Mahrez will probably be missing for all three which is a sickener.
lancyclaret Posted 31 December 2014 Posted 31 December 2014 Burnley are in the same boat - our next 3 home matches are against QPR (Jan10), Palace *Jan 17) and West Brom (Feb 7). Sandwiched in the middle is an away trip against Sunderland, another relegation rival. We need a lot of points from these 4 matches ahead of the so-called harder games. Jedinak and Bolasie missing for Palace should help us while we don't lose any players to the African or Asian Cups plus Sam Vokes in on the verge of a comeback - came on as a sub for 10 mins against Liverpool on Boxing Day.
Aus Fox Posted 31 December 2014 Posted 31 December 2014 Hoping Australia go all the way in the Asian Cup, meaning jedinak might be a doubt for our game. Final on the 31st can't imagine if the win he would be back before the 3rd, after a 24 hour flight don't think he'd be ready to play. Really think he is what makes Palace tick, been involved in a lot of their goals this season. A Palace team with out Jedinak and Bolasie at home should be a win, even without Mahrez.
BoyJones Posted 31 December 2014 Posted 31 December 2014 If we don't take a minimum of 7 points from these three homes games, reaching 37/38 points which should ensure survival will be so difficult. Any losses particularly Palace will mean they may not be catchable. The three teams to beat Hull, QPR and Burnley away, nine points here and we should finish above all of them. Got to basically win 6 more home games, a sneaky away win or two and some draws. Having played most of the big five or six at home already, barring Chelsea, we must get these home wins. We have the team to do it, just need a bit more cutting edge up front, Vardy who I do rate, needs to come to the party second half of the season. Anything from Liverpool is a bonus, the real season starts 10th January! Keep the Faith!
