Guest Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Please no, he's a Championship player. But he wouldn't be if we bought him !
Ian S Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Well, we are both going to have to do that, are we not? I presume you do not think we have had a shocking season, thus far, and think that being bottom is wonderful. No, I don't believe you are that stupid. Everyone knows the HALF season so far has not gone to plan which you seem to glean some strange satisfaction from ,do wonder whether you really are a city fan or if you ever actually go and watch them. However there is a long way to go so before you give us the last rites I suggest to give it a rest and do us all a favour. Ps if you were not aware we had a good win yesterday and yes we know it was not 3 points but a good win all the same.
Babylon Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Do you know this or is it just another assumption (not aimed at you, but in general). I thought the Thais were very wealthy and would actually want to spend to keep us in the division. Enlighten us all Babs... It's an assumption based on everything they have done and continue to do, what we've spent and who we have bought / bid for, so lets call it an educated guess. Doesn't matter how rich they are if they don't want to spend it. If money was no object and we had shit loads to spend, would we be bidding for this player, or scrambling around for free transfers? I had a hard time trying to convince people in the summer than spending £40-£60m just wasn't financially viable. When you take into account wages an outlay of £20m looked much more realistic and I wouldn't be shocked if that's around the mark we end up spending over the two windows.

The owners want to spend within the means of the club but that doesn't mean they aren't incredibly wealthy which they most certainly are. When you or anyone else says that we 'dont have any money', people draw the conclusion that the owners dont have the money to invest but that isnt true. As you say, they chose to spend to budget in the summer which could have been for a number of reasons. I think they did this with the thought that we were perhaps good enough to be better placed than we currently are. That not being the case, it appears from the early activity that investment is available should it be required. If we spent £3m in this window I wouldnt be suprised and equally, if we dropped £20m it wouldnt raise my eyebrows.
RizLCFC Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 £750k bid rejected according Goal.com, asking price of £1million.
Vicki Vixen Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 At £1m, on a sensible wedge and maybe an 18month deal, Maloney wouldn't be a bad shout. He offers that little bit of 'nous' that we're lacking sometimes. Wouldn't expect for a minute that he'd start every week, but in certain games he'd be a good fit. I'm wondering if the fact that he's out of the picture at Wigan is anything to do with Malky......I believe him and Maloney were at Celtic together......Maybe they don't see eye to eye ! Maloney was also a fringe player at Wigan under Rosler. He was an unused sub when we played them back in April and I thought at the time it was odd that a player who was one of Wigan's best players in their PL side could not even get a regular start for them in the Championship. Seems like little has changed for him at Wigan despite a change in manager.
Benguin Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Betting sites pitching him at evens 1/1 to join Leics
Bamba's Babes Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 I am staggered by the complete disregard for this transfer. I'm an Ireland supporter so this is a tough video to watch but this was just the other month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GccPPnee-4I
tommyh Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Can't believe people would be happy with us signing him! I wouldn't be happy about signing him if we were in the championship still! Got to be looking at bigger and better things surely!

ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 As a squad filler I'd be pretty happy, a direct replacement for GTF and Nick Powell.... but I seriously hope we're not pinning our survival solely on this calibre of signing.

As I said they might be rich (it's fairly obvious they are, I'm not sure it needs pointing out) but if they don't really fancy pumping in another £100m of their own money then it means nothing. I wouldn't be shocked if they spent £20m this window, it's football anything can happened. But I would say it would be a turn around from how they have tried to run the club the last two and a half years. The fact we are bidding for someone like Maloney would suggest to me there isn't a barrel load to spend out side of a striker, so people throwing their toys out about it might be wasting their breath if that's all we can afford.
Footballwipe Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Why are people totally fixated on the fact he's not playing for Wigan. Why aren't people fixated on the fact that Steve Walsh and the scouting team would have done their work and produced the extensive report that would be compiled before NP fully confirms that he wants SM?
Ric Flair Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 This chap will fit right in here. Goes about his business very efficiently and is a match winner. Trust Nigel.

I didnt say that you said they aren't wealthy. I said that you said that we dont have any money and people have misconstrued that to mean the owners aren't wealthy. I also agreed with you regarding the previous spends suggesting running a tight ship, however, the early suggestions this window seem like they are going to pet rip a little more. Schwarzer wont be on peanuts, Defoe certainly wouldnt be. Fees for Maloney and Kramaric would reach nearly £10m if both are to be believed. Of course Wood, GTF, Knocky etc could leave bringing the net spend down, but Pearson has said he didnt want anyone to leave as the squad is pretty small. I suppose we'll find out over the coming days. The window activity combined with recent form/results has certainly injected quite a bit of hope.
Banks Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 But he wouldn't be if we bought him ! Well he would be next season

Schwarzer is on his last contract so it's likely he will be on peanuts, Defoe surely can't be asking for too much considering he's been playing for Toronto.
Spence Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Maloney is an average player at best, Nugent can do his job as good if not better. Get some defenders in stop wasting time looking for no good midfielders.
Guest Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 He's a very tidy player indeed. Have thought for a couple of years I'd like to see him here so happy with this. We need a proper link up man with an ounce of magic when it's needed. Just hope the five signings we need dont cause us to lose the edge we've just refound. We need a team so the new players have to integrate ASAP.
placidcasual Posted 5 January 2015 Posted 5 January 2015 Schwarzer is on his last contract so it's likely he will be on peanuts, Defoe surely can't be asking for too much considering he's been playing for Toronto. Yeah Defoe must have been struggling on the $6.18million he made in 2014
Number 6 Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Would definitely take him. Irrelevant about getting in Wigan squad, he fills a hole in ours. Finally some decent set pieces (although Mahrez has been good lately).
foxfanazer Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Suggested him when we were in the championship and have always admired his workrate etc. Not sure if he's right for us now
