Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 31 year old winger, why didn't we just keep Dyer. Its a Championship signing, there's a reason why he's at a club 23rd in the league. He hasn't played much for said club - if he had there's every chance they could be doing better than 23rd. Crap logic, that.
BlueTillIDie Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Solid signing with experiance and proven at this level, not sure why everyone thinks we should be signing players for £5 million+. Sometimes you need to get the right balance and this is a great bit of business as he is highly underrated.
Guest MattP Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 £750,000 is an absolute snip. Been one of Scotland's best players in the mini revival since Strachan took over and can play in numerous positions. Premier League experience and won't be on a huge wage. In my opinion, we can't lose on this transfer. If he doesn't perform as well as he can do at least he's added some competition to the squad for not a lot of money. He can take a corner too! As good as Scotlands -mini revival- has been looked how appalling their players looked when they came up against a half decent Premier League team in England.
MHC Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 People happy with this signing but not Kyle Naughton
Dan Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 "Championship player" is such a dull term it's unreal. He spends most of his career in the Premier League yet 18 months of being in the Championship means he must be shit.
Jakemoore Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 I'm struggling to be excited about this but hopefully I'll be wrong. Time will tell...
AKCJ Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 People saying Championship signing forgetting Wasilewski, Hammond, Hamer etc.
Steven Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 https://twitter.com/SportsPeteO/status/555078912393625602 Pete O'Rourke @SportsPeteO Wigan forward Shaun Maloney set for talks with Leicester after two clubs agree fee of £750,000. #lcfc #wafc
MC Prussian Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 That feels like a bargain compared to all the recent signings in the multiple million range. Operation Completing Squad up and running still.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Could be a decent bit of business as a squad player. Not sure pearson trusts Knockaert and albrighton long term
Grewks Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Amazed people are excited about this. No...what is amazing is that people are extremely excited about an unknown croatian striker, yet to be tested at a decent level, costing a club record near £10 million, won't even be with us after this season if we are relegated. Yet we pay £750,000, for a proven Premier League creative player. Who is a type of player we have not got in our squad (Many have wanted to see Mahrez/knockaert play centrally), who almost single handedly dragged Wigan to safety, and it is a disappointment? Lets just put a few things right in this thread..... "Why not just resign lloyd dyer"...... 1) Dyer is a winger only, Maloney can play outwide as cover, but is more likely to be playing behind a striker when mahrez and schlupp are back. 2) Maloney has more quality in his weak foot than dyer has in his left. "Why spend £10 million on a striker, then sign Maloney, why not go the whole way?". Well...for starters we cannot just spend £10 million on every player. Maloney is a player who adds premier league experience, and is far more likely to be a success than the croatian. He will also still be with us should we be relegated.
Grewks Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Could be a decent bit of business as a squad player. Not sure pearson trusts Knockaert and albrighton long term You mean short-term right? Signing an almost 32 year old is hardly preparing for the long-term is it?
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Pete O'Rourke @SportsPeteO Wigan forward Shaun Maloney set for talks with Leicester after two clubs agree fee of £750,000. #lcfc #wafc Sounds good then
Bamba's Babes Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Fantastic if this deal goes through. His ability at set-pieces could earn us 3/4 goals from here to the end of the season which could equate to either 12 points or 0 points. £750k is worth finding out.
ealingfox Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Didn't Wigan balk at £1million? How is 750k suddenly enough?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Grewks is up there for worst poster of the year for anybody with their head screwed on, surely?
AKCJ Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 Grewks is up there for worst poster of the year for anybody with their head screwed on, surely? The Nugent stuff still makes me laugh.
Babylon Posted 13 January 2015 Posted 13 January 2015 If we're spending 10 million on a forward why not go all out instead of making do with just another championship player. Too many of those have seen us bottom and he's not exactly helping Wigan right now either. One step forward, two steps back. How exactly is it two steps back. You do realise money doesn't grow on bloody trees.
