Off to Uzbekistan for 10 days leaving on the 22nd with Uzbekistan Airlines. Any one been there, any tips about the country?

Yep. Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand, Tashkent. Prob the best trip I’ve done, not a tourist or any hint of organisation in sight and so much history and relevance. People very friendly, each place different, experiment with food as it’s all good. Ps in my 10 day trip our luggage only turned up on day 7 and apparently this is very common, so pack hand luggage wisely. Don’t be a stressy Brit, you’ll enjoy it much more

No not yet. Been on the list for a while though. Recommended?

I just read 'Among the Mountains' which is one of those very fun books about some insane Oxbridge-educated Brit crossing Asian mountains ranges with just a bivvy tent, a knife and a handful of Farsi phrases.

Probably my favourite ever book, completely evocative. The subalterns are almost other worldly with their courage and wit, those sort of men just don’t exist now.

Flying to Tromso via Oslo on Tuesday. From there onto Tallinn via Helsinki for three days , then back to Helsinki and then home. Four flights and two ferries in five days. Knackered thinking about it.

That sounds superb, post reviews afterwards pls.

Would be fun to do the Helsinki - Tallinn - Riga - Vilnius - Minsk line one day.

Back early hours from three weeks in Sri Lanka with our 8 month old daughter.

Anyone saying its too young to travel is 100% categorically incorrect. Mindset, outlook and planning is everything.

Sri Lanka blew our minds in its family friendly nature, genuine friendly interest from everyone we came across. Our daughter has been held and spoken too by more Sri Lankans in three weeks than Brits in 8 months. Even the men are warm and interested in children in a way that just doesn't exist here.

As for the landscape, unbelievably varied and beautiful in equal measure.

Food incredible almost everywhere but especially in the few Homestays we used as accommodation. Cheap decent digs with great food and free childcare from the women of the house who were besotted with our daughter.

Fully recommend.

I would 100% back up everything you’ve said having been a couple of times with young and not so young children.
Very warm and welcoming everywhere we went.

Anyone got any recommendations for a spa/country manor type places for an overnight stay? Nothing too posh but it is for a special occasion.

Yorkshire/East Mids area would be ideal.

Carden Park is nice near Chester ( i know its not Yorkshire etc.), stopped a few times. The separate spa faculties are world class but it can be a bit pricey. Chester isn't too far away and is always nice for a wonder round.

The Spa breaks they do at Centre Parcs are decent too, Sherwood's spa is great and i think you can do one night stops as well.

I really want to go but have been put off because of political unrest. Did you notice any of that or increase security when you were out and about or did it seem OK?

Good to hear you enjoy it

Going to Benidorm for a stag in September and I’m earnestly very excited about it. Never been, sun, cheap pints and lowlife British culture sounds great.

Talking about doing a week in Alicante afterwards too.

Did a stag in Ibiza in the early 2000s and it was awful and absolutely brilliant

I think Ibiza probably peaked around then, it’s completely commercialised now
