TheMightySystem Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 What did others think to his performance tonight? I thought considering he was played out of his natural position for the majority of the game he played quite well. Made the odd few bad decisions but overall tried to win the ball back when it was lost and always looking forward to attack. Very promising start in my eyes.
Stuliasz Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 He had a promising start out wide I thought and then probably a mixed game at best in the middle. One magnificent cross-field pass in the first half but lots of misplaced short passes and needs to develop a bit more strength on the ball. Think he definitely has a promising future though.
Riot Van Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 meh... Lost the ball far too often and one of the times led to their offside goal. Shows promise but doesn't look up to premier league standard based on that performance, although I'm sure he can play better than that.

Mate he was out of position for over half the game, I think he coped well. I won't judge him until he has played a run of games for us in his actual position.
bluesbrothers Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Stringer and Elliott were't impressed Stringer and Elliott can do one. The lad done good.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Got to give these lads a go otherwise we will never know if their good enough.
RizLCFC Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 They thought he did well, I was forced to listen to their commentary today, I don't remember them saying they weren't impressed. I'm not a big fan of Stringer but just saying what I heard.
Raj Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 I thought he showed great potential for a young un...but Im not cityfanlee23 so Dont really know enough to say!!! !!!
AKCJ Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 I thought he did well. Despite it being his debut and a big occasion he didn't shirk the challenge. Constantly wanted to get on the ball and worked his socks off to get it back if we lost it. He almost tried too hard and made some really odd decisions but he looked comfortable against a really experienced and Premier League proven Newcastle midfield. A solid 7/10.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Not what stringer said on Twitter. He said 'steady'
ronnup Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Some people. Doesn't look prem standard? One game? Harry Kane anyone.....?
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Considering it was his debut I thought he did very well. Some of his long passing was exceptional; a couple of the cross-field balls he played were very intelligent and perfectly executed. He's not afraid to run at people but my major issue is with his size and weight. He is very light and and gets shouldered off the ball quite easily. There was a point in the second half where he had tracked back very well and eventually got a block in from which Konch cleared the ball, but when shoulder to shoulder with the attacker (couldn't see who it was as I was behind the other goal) he was swatted away like a fly. Just imagining him against some of the beasts in this league and I think he'll need to bulk up a lot.
Raj Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Not what stringer said on Twitter. He said 'steady'As good as stringer was in the apprentice?Guys a cock
Joey Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Lawrence was used as an attacking midfielder at Rotherham. Looked like the creative midfielder we sometimes lack in games.
ADK Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Elliot and Stringer both praised him. Reading between the lines he's about what I expected, a young and determined lad with potential who hasn't learnt when to make certain decisions, lacking composure and still a little lightweight. Probably 1-2 seasons away from being ready for the premiership. Might be able to make a contribution though and will give his all, we'll probably send him back to Rotherham once the AFCON finishes.
Leicester Lass Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Few people raving about him on Twitter but I don't think he's ready to start in the Premier League yet. Looked a bit lightweight to me, got pushed off the ball very easily in the build up to their disallowed goal. Can definitely tell he's got potential though.
GaelicFox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 He is a kid, showed real guts to not let the odd mistake crush him, that confidence and the obvious ability will take him far, from the pampered training grounds of old Trafford to being a full pro is a huge step and he made that step well, looks a rough diamond and best of luck to him
1993fox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 cut him a bit of slack he played out of position for most of the game and he's younger than all of us here - just look at a picture of him he still looks like a 15 year old who can play a few cute balls here and there but he demonstrated he's more than that today personally i'm happy to have him and see him grow into a future gerrard/lampard/scholes for us
kingfox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Agree with AKCJ. Considering he had to revert to central midfield, a position he has probably never played in professionally, you really have to praise the lad. Bit lightweight at times, and his decision making at times wasn't great, but your going to get that from young players like himself. I really liked how he didn't shy away from getting stuck in, he certainly didn't play like a fairy.
Daz93 Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Anyone expecting a world class performance was bound to be disappointed. He played his part well in the game, with a few bright moments. The fact he had to play centre mid for most of the game limited his threat. At 20 (younger than Liam) he doesn't look out of place in our squad and I'm sure Nige will bring him into the team at the right times to aid his development. Definitely a good prospect, though.
Ric Flair Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Mahrez was very lightweight and still is to a certain extent. Lawrence will need to experience how to escape being brushed off the ball by evading situations where possible, until he gains the strength which often comes in a few years. I've no concerns over his stature at the minute, I think he showed real promise and could be very useful in the latter part of the season. Quite fearless.
Stadt Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 He can't really become less lightweight unless he bulks up absolutely loads and then doesn't have the build of a tricky, agile winger. I think it boils down to experience rather than build, Riyad doesn't get brushed off the ball despite being as skinny as me.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 As good as stringer was in the apprentice? Guys a cock I was merely correcting what someone had made out he said. I don't think he's a cock, you do - you may have met him and that be your opinion. I've met him and I don't.
okie fox Posted 3 January 2015 Posted 3 January 2015 Thought Lawrence had a mixed game. Clearly not used to being closed down so quickly. However, showed promise. Not ready for a regular place yet.
