Simpson 7 Wasyl 8 - didn't even know benteke played. and I think he did outpace agbonlahor Wes 8 - colossal. Konch 8 - 7 like Simpson but an extra for the goal. Nice finish. Albrighton 7 Hammond 7 James 7 - would've been an 8 but loses one for the red. Knockers 8 - MOTM. good going forward and ridiculous workrate tracking back throughout. just a hero. so glad he was back. Nuge 6 - tidy enough, unlucky not to score with one and should've scored with another. knackered from about 60 mins onwards. Ulloa 6 - should've scored but link up play etc was good. Subs meh Villa 1 - that's being kind. Ref 5.

LanguedocFox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 I thought the whole team was good today, but you have to give special mentions to Knocky and Albrighton - came into the side with very little recent game time and played brilliantly - and Was/Wes at the back, who gave Villa forwards sod-all, and then took it back anyway. Hamer was very tidy - he's done very well since he came in - and Hammond bossed the midfield. The forwards... not so sure. It really shouldn't have been 1-0, and a left-back's goal at that.
The Doctor Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 7/8 all round, except knocks who looked incredible (9) and Nugent who missed two great chances (6). Ref gets a 4, ok but missed an obvious penalty on Hammond and made a complete farce of the James-Clark tangle (Clark does enough for two straight reds in there), villa get a 1 for turning up, because they didn't do better than that.
DennisNedry Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Hamer - 6 Konch - 7 (+2 for goal, poor otherwise) Was - 8 Wes - 8 Simpson - 7 Albrighton - 8 MOTM - 2 great assists, from which at least one should have been buried (Nugent) James - 8 - Gonna miss him. Hammond - 7 Knockaert - 7 - Very good defensively but offered little going forward. Ulloa - 4 - Looked like he'd been drugged with sleeping pills. Nugent - 4 - Effort as always, but missed two easy chances. Villa - 2 - Worst team I've seen this season. Nige - 7 Ref - 4 - Gave them every 50/50 then poor decision to red card James imo. If we had a good striker playing today (hopefully Kramaric is as good as promised) we'd have won 3 or 4 nil.
kingfox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Hamer 6 - Not much to do again Simpson 7 - Did his job, good solid performance Morgan 9 - Outstanding, some crucial blocks in particular, and solid in the air Wasyl 9 - Another solid performance by Wasyl, last 10 mins especially, he was absolutely immense Konchesky 6 - Good strike for the goal, his passing at times was still awful though Albrighton 6 - Don't know what all the fuss is about today, did ok, few good crosses but nothing more James 6 - Mixed performance from James today, at times a driving force, at times wasteful in possession Hammond 5 - Poor for me, too slow on the ball and like James at times wasteful in possession Knockaert 7 - Good hard working performance, especially defensively Nugent 5 - Hard working, but his decision making at times was awful & he really should of scored Ulloa 5 - Looked like he couldn't be arsed at times

No real saves to make today. Another clean sheet Simpson-7 Very good today, solid defensively and looked to overlap with Albrighton Wes- 8 Threw himself at everything and didn't see him lose an aerial challenge all day. Captains performance! Was- 9 MOTM Absolute beast of a performance! Bullied Benteke all day long and looks so calm. Suprised me this season to be honest Konchesky-5 took his goal really well but for me he is still our weak link and it showed again. Wasteful in possession on so many occasions and looks nervous. Need better Albrighton-7 looks like he might be handy standing in for Riyad. Good crosses from him and linked up well with Simpson. Not got the pace to beat his man which could be a problem against better opposition James-8 Typical dogged display from James. Can't really comment on the red as I've seen no replays but he is full blooded with his challenges so it will happen occasionally. Good game Hammond-7 He doesn't stand out but he is effective. Does the dirty work well and stepped up once again imo Knocky-7 Not too effective going forward today but his defensive work was superb. Think Nige has pinpointed this to him as room for improvement. Maybe deserves an 8 to be fair Nuge- 7 I think he's been terrific recently. Involved in most of the good things we do. Set Ulloa up for a sitter and was unlucky not to score with a wonderful strike. Poor decision making at times Ulloa-6 Looked really isolated at times today. Won most headers and held the ball up well. Should have scored, we need him to be clinical Subs-N/a Villa-1 I don't even think I'm exaggerating here. They truly were the pits imo and could be one of the teams that go down. Calamitous at the back and no threat in attack. Guzan by far their best performer. Ref-5 Too picky at times but it sounds like he got the big decision right?

With a clinical striker (Kramaric hopefully!), we'd have won this game by 5. Good goal from Konchesky, but he's still the weak link in the team and a new left back is a must in this window. Overall though, 3 great points. Bring on Stoke!

Was 8 Characteristic performance to put fear in the hearts of their strikers. Wes 7 Competent and good in the air Konch 6 usual variable performance but extra point for the goal. Knockheart 6 Better than his usual performance, made several poor tackles and had to race back to regain position. James 7 Good performance but loses 1 for straight red. Hammond 8 Not pretty to watch, but we play better with him in the team. Good footballing brain. Our best midfielder in the air and good at winning the second ball in midfield, something our other midfielders struggle to do. Albrighton. 7 Several good crosses and keen to get forward, but a number of passes went astray and struggled to keep possession. Nugent 7 Best that I have seen for months, but does need to put away his chances. Ulloa 6 Tried hard, effective in defence at corners, but could not lose his markers, often had 2 or 3 on him. Subs: Vardy 5 Lost possession at the end when we should have kept it safe in their half. Lawrence 5 Didn't look out of his depth but passes went out of play and lost possession too easily at the end. King 6 Good in the defensive CM position Pearson 7 Got away with it. Villa 3 Playing like we did in November: poor defence and no cutting edge. Ref: 4 Overall I am pleased to have won narrowly rather than lost narrowly, but finishing needs work, as do corners and freekicks. When did we last score from one? Looking forward to our new croat (blame Farage if it is not granted!)
theessexfox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Hamer - 6 - Little to do Simspon - 8 - Rock solid, great in the air Was - 8 - So solid, especially marking Benteke Wes - 8 - So solid, especially marking Benteke Konch - 7 - Matchwinner, defensively pretty sound but still so awful on the ball Albrighton - 7 - End product lacked at times but should've had a couple of assists and had a good effort saved, got stuck in well Hammond 7 - Dirty work James - 8 - Very strong player, good on the ball, top performance, need to see the red again Knockaert - 8 - Some great touches, turns and passes combined with great defensive work Nugent - 5 - I love the guy and his link up play was good but he just had to score Ulloa - 6 - Good in the air, should've hit his first time Lawrence - 6 - End product was poor Vardy - 6 - Ran King - 6 - Little time Villa - 2 - Awful, no penetration, no fight, didn't even stay to clap their fans Ref - 2 - Standard of officiating in this league is shocking, he was awful Pearson - 8 and stay, what a God

Great performance Morgan 7 - Very composed, great block near the end Konchesky 7 - Was gutted when I heard he was starting but did ok. Gets an extra point for the goal Knockaert 7 - Great from him. Great defensively and did well going forward. Deserves his run now in the team James 8 - Really good from him. Unlucky with his header and no idea why he got the red Hammond 6- Steady without being fantastic. Like the way he breaks up the opposition play Albrighton 7 - Silly fouls but tries so hard and some great assists that should have led to goals Ulloa 4 - Worst I've seen him play. Rubbish with his effort on goal, took too long, never a pen either. Didnt hold much up for us. Poor Nugent 7 - Really good game despite the awful miss first half Vardy 4 - Don't know whats wrong with him. Tried the same move every time, lost the ball then fouled the defender. Maybe he's trying too hard Lawrence 5 - Looked a bit rabbit in the headlights but will get better King 7 - Difficult game to come on in, did well Pearson 10 as usual.

Wasyl 8- Bossed it Morgan 8- Very well played Konchesky 7- took his goal well. Sloppy passing on occastions Albrighton 7- Was impressed by him on my first time seeing him play live. James 7- was good generally and really should of scored but was a good save. I need to see the red on MOTD. Hammond 7- Generally good but did lose the ball enough for me to notice. Knockaert 8- Worked his socks off and was good in every aspect of the game. Nugent 5- Linked up well but should of had 2 goals today and he missed. Was unlucky with the volley though. Ulloa 6- Nothing really of note. He worked hard so can't fault him really. Had only the one chance but it should of been a penalty from where I was sat. Lawrence 5- Missed a very good opertunity Vardy 4- First touch was shocking. King 6- Solid as ever.
