The food there is nice and varied, but the decor etc looks tired.

Shame the building where Charlie Chalks used to be (in Thurmaston) has been boarded up for about 5 years.

Would've thought the location would appeal to any restaurant etc buyer.

Been boarded up for a year or so tops. I believe it was sold to Wetherspoons who changed their minds but could be a false rumour.

My ex's mate runs the gaff man, by all accounts good scran, not sure how well it's doing, looks very quiet whenever I go past but definitely somewhere I fancy having a look at.

Yeah always looks very quiet. I randomly once went on a night out to see 'Future Islands' with the owner through mutual mates back when he was about to open.

Nah they shut down quite a while ago now. Early 2015 I think.

A shame because it really is a decent location. Bite to eat then a walk round the lakes. Place went to the utter pits before it closed though.

Quite a few plots for sale down that road now, surprised people aren't jumping at them.

Went a few weeks ago, it was bang average and the service was a bit crap. Wouldn't go again

Not so much a restaurant but I went in the new head of steam place in town earlier. Good selection of beers but the bar staff are all properly clueless and the place has a weird vibe. Would go again but it's not a must try imo

It only opened Thursday though didn't it? Could just be early teething problems

I suppose but if you're marketing yourself as more of a specialist beer bar than the average bar, you'd expect the bar staff to have half a clue. 1 of the bar men told me I'd chose 1 of his favourite stouts when I was drinking an IPA lol I'll give them the benefit of the doubt

Really looking forward to going here on Saturday but just because of the beer selection. Luckily I know my beer so won't entertain inept bar staff.

Bistro Pierre's lunchtime menu is superb. Went to Grounded Kitchen on Queens Road and they do these Korean pots which is basically just fresh vegetables, meat and sauce but they're also great. Think they shut at 8pm though. Also was at Annie's Burger Shack in Nottingham last week and that was dead nice.

Just caught up on about 10 pages, loads of new places to try now.

The choice of beers really is very good. The guys who currently run Brewklopedia are opening there own pub round the corner on Millstone Lane, opposite the Blue Boar so there's a decent little run of places serving good beers forming round there now

Good on them. That part of town is absolutely ace for a few beers these days.

Can vouch for this gaff, dead great for a quick snack, bit tight if you're eating in there on the sills though.
