Decent restaurants in and around town?

I know there’s been a couple of occasions that people I’ve asked about places to eat in Birmingham - the city has woke up beyond all belief in the last three months.

Look up Nocturnal Animals - what a ****ing idea that is and the food is to die for

@Unabomber has been the Wilderness and he will love this spot

I like the San Carlos owned restaurant in Selfridges. They do Spanish Tapas and is excellent. Been three times now and the choice is as excellent as the food. Not a cheap option, but stunningly good.

Suprised really as I find San Carlos bang average. I thought the Leicester one was going down the tapas route, but popped in Christmas Eve and they unfortunately haven’t.

Really like the Pint Shop in Brum now, not quite as nice as the Oxford one mainly because it seems very dark indoors but a great selection of beers. Wellington next door too, proper boozer.

Been a few times in the past.

Find the food has either been decent or excellent (depending on the particular order) whilst the staff/service can be either be attentive and strong or sometimes rude and slow.

Went to the Marco Pierre White restaurant at the Grand Hotel nearby recently and thimk it's one of the best restaurants I've been to in the city. Can't fault any aspect of it.

The tapas is for their Selfridge outlet only. The Birmingham restaurant on Temple Street is still Italian cuisine.

Yep, another good addition. Brum has upped its game big time on drinking and grub last six months. A lot of folk don’t head down to Colmore Row either and the pubs hidden off the streets there.

Be even better when Tattu opens soon.

One of the best pints I've ever had in Brum was at the Craven Arms, up by the Mailbox, might have been because it's up a bloody massive hill mind.

Have you tried Tilt? I didn't know what to make of it when I went. Smelt like megazone but the staff were sociable and the beers were interesting.

Yeah Craven Arms a good pub and a proper one at that. Brum specialises in having great pubs took away - Barton Arms is superb but it’s in the midst of a shithole towards Aston. Kilder Bar is virtually underneath Moor Street station is a beauty of a bar. Gunmaker Arms is the other side of the ghastly ring road (which leads into Jewellery Quarter). Or the Wolf which is similarly off a limb (probably serves the best beer)

I can have a drink in Tilt but I’m not a fan of the surroundings. Doesn’t feel either like a bar or pub.

The suburbs are increasingly good for a drink and food too.

A good food tip in Brum. A place what sells Bao buns called Pig Tiger Bites. Cracking mid crawl snack or a small lunch. Next door is a highly rated Greek Deli as well selling Gyros etc. On Stephenson street - nearby New Street as if walking to Post Office Vaults

Kilder and Original Patty Men is a dangerous combination.

Don't know if its been mentioned before but went to Lilu on Highcross street ...   best Indian I've had in Leicester for a long long time ...   and I've been to a few.

(And no, I'm not related or on commission ...   just like good food) ...   :)

Just been to Grounded Kitchen which is a Korean rice bowl type place on queens road. Incredible food but wow pray for my arse when this makes it through, hottest thing I’ve eaten in a while.

Gonna have one tonight. Blow the cobwebs out before Huddersfield away.

Went to Sapori in Anstey the other night ...   very nice food and well looked after by the staff  ...  choice of Peroni or Estella (my favourite) and good wine (Malbec very nice) ...   not the cheapest but not that expensive and good value for money.  Surroundings very nice but I’m no fan of big open, lightly decorated rooms ...   prefer things a bit less brightly lit and more intimate.   All in all though a good night out.

Been there before and everyone I know loves it, very good grub.

It’s was very nice, must have eaten a whole chilli in one mouth full though and it was so hot it sent me dizzy lol. While I was in there someone ordered theirs with no fresh chillis and I fully understand why.

Not exactly in town, but if you ever find yourself in Market Harborough try Taste Social. It's a Chinese Tapas place that is very reasonably priced (most dishes no more than £5) and not just your standard Chinese food. Probably the best Chinese I've ever had.

Food is excellent. Only downside, it’s like eating in a greenhouse ! If you’re sat at the front people gorping in is a little off-putting.
