Recommended Posts

Looking at having a weekend away with the Mrs this weekend coming and wondered if anyone could recomend anywhere?

Not London as we only went recently but somewhere with some history, perhaps museums etc and a nice resturant or two would be great. Any ideas please let me know!

Thinking along the lines of York at the moment...

What are you after specifically?

Cambridge is ace. Not too far, good shopping, great blokes clothes shop and decent boozers and restaurants.

Bath is virtually the same, probably a little better but further to travel.

York, more touristy, I much prefer Bath and Canbridge. It's just okay in my opinion.

Chester is also good, nice tepanyaki for the evening.

Newcastle - stop at Seaburn Marriott on the coast near Sunderland. Much cheaper than Bath and York, massive rooms and restaurants close by, with trips to Newcastle and Durham during the day.

If you want something really special - Seaham Hall, just below Sunderland, one of the best hotels in the UK, with a great spa etc. Newcastle and Durham during the day. This hotel is amazing.

Canterbury - nice for a change, decent hotel in the centre with a good champagne bar. Nice, but Bath, Cambridge better.

Overstrand - Sea Marge hotel, quiet hotel, good food, trips during the day to Sherringham etc. Not great places to visit, but great friendly hotel. Norwich is decent to visit while you are there.

York is the easy option to take, but for me it's too touristy and you just don't get the feel of the others.

If distance isn't a bother I would do Bath.

If cost isn't a bother I would do Seaham Hall.

If you want it simple and good, Cambridge.

Im looking for something similar in October time but abroad i think. Brussels, Rome and Paris are on the shortlist currently

Rome is amazing. We do quite a few European city breaks, Rome is our favourite without a doubt. Check out inferno b&b, it's near the Vatican. Might have changed since we went 3 years ago, but it was really good accommodation, bargain too.

Visited Tynemouth recently (about 20-30mins from Newcastle) and it's beautiful little seaside place. Decent pubs / restaurants and not too far from Newcastle if you want somewhere a bit more lively later on.

Providing Google hasnt lied, that place looks great and is a pretty good price. Thanks

Norwich is nice. Attractive city centre, good pubs and restaurants and close to some nice countryside.

Too much pedestrianisation in the City Centre though
