How should we set up for the rest of the season?

Says it all. He got us into this position, first time in ten years.

All of the hate for Pearson is incredible. Yes this season he has been under par but were people expecting anything but a relegation fight. A lot of people assume managers can come in and immediately get results. It works for some managers at some clubs and it won't for others at other clubs

There is no guarantee that Pulis, Sherwood or Pardew would have done a better job anyway, and a lot of people seem to have forgotten the players not doing their bit either. Yes the manager will always take the blame in these situations, but sometimes there is little he can do in certain situations.

The club has underperformed this season, but does it mean we need to change manager. I don't agree. See Curbishley at Charlton. Relegated, came back stronger and were finishing top half almost every season. Same with West Brom and Mowbray. Even Pardew has been relegated as a manager. So it doesn't mean that we need a change

I just feel massively disappointed that Pearson's tinkering and evidently poor man-management skills have left us where we are. Not to mention the bizarre, almost fetishistic substitutions. Loved getting propmotion, but he's not up to it at this level. How many points have we lost? It's fine if he likes you as a player. From the off, Man U aside, we have set up in response to other teams rather than playing our own game. Does he believe that Ulloa and Kramaric can't play together? Why don't we play a formation that supports our strikers, rather than one that sets out to nullify theirs? Five at the back against Hull? It's getting to be like the end of 'Downfall'. Where's the YouTube of that featuring Nigel?

Absolutely spot on. I only wish more LCFC fans had this opinion! It's not the first time so called supporters have been guilty of not being realistic in their expectations and it's only gonna have a negative effect on the club in the long term. It was always going to be a tough ask this season and we'v been competitive and in games all season. Although that's not going to help us in the short term keeping Pearson maximises our chances of keeping the nucleus of the squad together in order to bounce straight back. If (it's looking like when now) we do go down NPs championship experience will be essential and hopefully we as a club and not just NP will learn from this seasons experience/ mistakes. For what he's acheieved at this club I beleive he deserves that opportunity! I beleive our fundamental mistake was not bringing in some premier league experience and know how which is why we'v fallen just short, fine margins.

I thought the formation against hull was the right one however after the game it was clear we were unfamiliar with the system and creative players were lost so Il'd go 4-4-2 (Kramaric and Ulloa up top) and give it a right good go from now until the end and whatever happens we stick together.

He's had the opportunity and now it's toxic. His Championship experience is not 'essential', his results have been mixed overall. We should get rid and start again, even if it takes a while. He cannot manage at Premiership level. Recruitment has been poor. Man management has been poor. Game management has been poor. What has he learned? Where is the evidence of any change or adaptation? Fans don't want this because there has been no evidence that he has learned anything this season. How do you explain the results against West Brom, Stoke, Palace and Hull since New Year? It has been below poor. And, for the recoed, I don't buy into this idea that if I criticise Pearson I am in some way being disloyal to the club. I love the club. Do I back the team? Always. Even if Danny Simpson gets picked again. Or Wes. Or Schwarzer. Or Konchesky. Or Upson. I'm intelligent enough to think for myself, though, and I understand that what I'm seeing, game by game, is not acceptable.

Can we please go back to basics and play like we did last season, full of attack and purpose. 4 - 4 ****ing 2?

Enough of this containment crap, we are not even going to get close to Cardiff's record last season (30 points).

Last season's lineup, but slot in Huth, with Ulloa providing a different option off the bench ;)

New signings have been disastrous to what made the TEAM better than the sum of its parts

No, seriously 4231 with the actual tactics of covering the defence so the fullbacks can join the attacking 4 in attack

I tried for something that included Hammond and Nuge, as the team seems to gel better when they play, but also to include major attacking threat and pick the least bad defenders. It looks a bit weird, but what the hell; who knows.

Ben

Was Huth

Hammond

Richie Jeff

Cambiasso James/Drinky

Mahrez Kram Vardy

Then I realised I hadn't managed to find a spot for Nuge - maybe better to play him in place of Mahrez and behind the front two. Only need to play both James and Drinky, no Cambi, and we're getting back to last season's team. And I haven't managed Ulloa; it would be nice to pair him up with Kram at some point.

Oh, and my tabs went out of kilter, so excuse the unintended narrowness.

This team selection lark's hard. Beginning to sympathise with Nige.

Think I need to go to sleep!

Last season we were mainly successful with a 4-4-2. The games we have won this season we have played a variation of that formation.

David Nugent has also been in the team in all of those games, playing just off the front man.

So I would set up. 4_4_2_1

One of the 3 keepers(don't think the issues are there)

De leat

Huth

Upson

Konchesky

Mahrez

Cambiasso

James

Sclupp

Nugent

Kramaric/Ulloa/vardy (one of those 3)

I'm expecting the same set-up and players as last week.  Not because I think it's the best but because NP has tried a few and he seems to have settled on this one, and will most likely keep it for the rest of the season.

I have this sneaking suspicion that he's already privately accepted that we're going down and is starting to put players where he will want them next year to get them used to the roles.  That would explain sticking Schlupp at LB and starting to play Lawrence in the middle.

Mahrez and Kram are unlikely to be here of course.

How about building a large wall across the 6 yard line and issuing all of the players with a white flag.  :scarf:

We've been attempting that for the last month or two.

As good as Mahrez has been this season does anyone think he may not be the best option for us at the moment. We are in general going to be dominated in possession and when we do have it, we need to be as direct and quick as possible and Nugent and Vardy are better at doing this than Mahrez and Schlupp. Not to mention how intelligent Nugent looks off the ball and in the box. In games, where we dominate possession a player like Mahrez would be good because we may need that creativity to break teams open.

Go hard or go home. I'd rather we went out in a blaze of glory, losing games heroically 4-3 than drawing all our games 0-0 or 1-1.

There we go!

We need to set up in a way that is used and started every game, that gives defensive solidity but enables us to get the best out of the pace in our forwards.

All successful teams are built on a solid defence.Last season we got away with defensive errors, this season they have been punished.

If,by a miracle, we survive in PL or, more likely we are relegated, we should still set up the same, either for another PL season better prepared or to aim for promotion with a system geared for PL. For me that is 4-2-3-1,good CBs and quality holding m/f is key
