French Air Crash

True. Though that's even worse in many ways.

Very unlikely I would think, you would have bigger things to worry about as a family member, and would no doubt pass it on immediately.  More likely if that were the source to be someone less affected getting hold of it somehow.

So Lufthansa/Germanwings were told as early as 2009 about a very serious depressive phase in Lubitz' life - he even declared that himself. At the time, he was in flight school.

Very bad case of corporate negligence? Or did Lufthansa simply take any doctors' opinion for granted that Lubitz was past the bouts?

Still, he lied about his condition on that fatal day, as he had a sick note.

Putting general opinion and morality to one side it can be a very sensitive and difficult situation for employers legally.  Discrimination by reason of mental illness can be a big concern.  For example in a lot of constitutional documents I see for companies there is a very specific line of process for removing directors who no longer have the mental capacity to perform their duties, perhaps even involving a Court.

Travel tip for anyone planning an overseas trip this Easter: make sure your pilot's a Scouser.

You'll never catch one of those bastards tearing up a sick note and going in to work.

Agree with JTHs post completely. That memory card containing the footage must have been taken from the crash site directly by an investigator or another authority figure. What the **** were they thinking compromising the investigation like that? What kind of sick ****s first thought is 'I can make a bit of money here'?

Whoever it is should be named and shamed and left to face the music. The newspapers...don't even get me started, there's no journalistic merit in posting a video of hundreds of people realising they're going to die on their website which I'm sure is what they'd have done left unchecked.

The mind boggles.

I was under the impression that the newspapers decided not to publish the video.

I work quite a bit with journalists and, with all respect to anyone on here who may be involved with the profession, they are usually selfish and morally bankrupt. Those on the left and right.

This video stuff is horrific, if it's real I hope to God it never sees the light of day. I've watched some fvcked up stuff on the net (like that horse video) but I could never bring myself to watch something like that.

I'll regret asking this... but what's the horse video? lol

I mentioned it in the interesting news thread. Search 'Mr Hands'... if you dare.

What is actually going on with this recording?

Investigators saying they want to see it, papers were saying they have seen it but now saying they have no possesion, who showed them then? Is this Chinese whispers that has got out of hand?

I took it as someone showing them the video and offering to sell it to them but them not buying it. yet.

Surely no one would be able to get out of the rescue site with stolen property? At least I hope not anyway.

Not sure about that matt, rumours are the person who took the phone is a scouser.

I'm slightly concerned he needed to research the door security, ya'know, being the co-pilot and all.

I don't suppose his training included how to lock the pilot out of the cabin.

If it was a bad decision made in flight I wouldn't have any sympathy, the fact that he actually planned how he was going to murder those people just shows how much of a scumbag the guy was. Worse than a suicide bomber.

So if he had to lock out a terrorist?  Appreciate there is this "code from the outside" but it would make sense to know in case either cabin crew were held hostage and being forced to open the door etc.  We're not talking about breaking the enigma code here.  You may have been joking...

Posted

I was told recently by an ex pilot that there is over-ride code for the door that the cabin crew have in case of this very eventuality, to make it impossible for one person to lock themselves in.

I think it's fairly well documented that there is a keypad for the captain/crew to use to unlock the door but it can be overridden by the person in the cockpit by a switch.

I understood it that there was still a master code that could be used from outside, that's changed every month, to stop people in the cockpit from doing exactly that.

But then surely a terrorist could get that out of one of the crew, which defeats the object?
