Received a phone call just this morning from someone with very bad English claiming to be from Windows lol  saying my computer was being hacked and they were going to help me by going step through step in protecting my PC.

Told him it was a nice try.

Been going on for years those calls.

I got one the other month said something like I was getting infected every time I used to the Internet. I was like "go on then, who is my ISP" and he was just repeating what he first said lol

Yep, I get 2 or 3 of these calls a year. I always ask them as they know my computer is at risk can they tell me my IP address at which point they usually hang up.

Hmm in future, if I'm in the mood, I might play along and see how long it is before they get frustrated and hang up.

They happen quite a lot and one method to scare you is to direct you to system logs and say there are loads of errors - which is true, there will be, but they are natural and nothing to worry about. They then offer to connect to your PC via remote access and then install malware on it, at which point your PC becomes under the control of a botnet.

If I've got the time I play along for as long as I can until they hang up after giving me abuse lol

I just pretend to go along with what they say, until they realise I'm toying with them.

I got one saying they were from BT and that my computer was affecting their line, which was interesting since I am on Virgin's cable network.

I've had a few of these over the last year. Reckon they're from Manchester, last time they rang I went along with him then after a couple of minutes told him I was from metropolitan police fraud unit. Phone went down on a flash.

Just pull the same trick on them and try to "help" yourself... Keep them on the line for as long as you can, whilst you talking them into buying or installing something they don't need or that is harmful.

No idea how but some company asking for me called my stepdad.... our accounts on vodafone arent linked, the only link we have is at the football..... either way seemed very suspect

Either that or they realised that i blocked all dudgey numbers so they are finding other ways to get a hold of you, THEY ARE EVOLVING
