Leicester to bid £8m for Mainz forward Shinji Okazaki

As many have mentioned I would happily take him, he probably is the only reason Mainz avoid relegation. At the end of the day we need more depth and quality, he ticks both those boxes!

The player has said he wants to move to the premiership. He's 29 now. On that basis if we were to rival Monchengladbach for his signature I don't think it's too unrealistic that we could tempt him to us over them.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. His track record at a struggling Bundesliga side and at international level are very promising. Looking at his goals on youtube he also seems a bit of a flair player so would really beef up the creativity in our forward line.

If Monchengladbach are seriously interested then I think it's likely he'd go there. They've just qualified for the Champions League and could end up finishing 2nd this season and it means that Okazaki is able to stay in Germany as well.

On the commercial side of things, Kagawa sold the fourth most amount of shirts in the league when he moved to United in 2013. Shows just how popular the Premier League is in Japan and how we can exploit the East Asia market with his signing whilst also earning some of the money we spend on him back with merchandise sales.

Yeah, but would you rather have a player as part of the squad that sells tees and other related memorabilia or a player that actually helps improve the team as a whole?

Because Kagawa somewhat flattered to deceive at United (one hattrick in 38 league games, plus being more of a quite expensive sub than a regular impact player) and was rather quickly sent back to Dortmund after only two years and a few appearances here and there.

I think Okazaki would improve the squad, he's an improvement on Nugent and has scored goals for a mediocre Mainz team for two seasons in a row now, but exploiting the Asian market will be an added bonus if we do end up signing him.

Hopefully if we get him in we'll get him early and he'll have a full pre-season in England to start and learn the language and the culture, something that Kramaric has obviously struggled with.

My brother follows German football closely and doesn't have a very high opinion of this lad, says his doesn't think he would cope with the pace of the PL.

Shinji Okazaki in action for Japan

A City scout was known to have watched him in action last week at home to FC Cologne.

"You know we have been interested in him in (in the past)," said Pearson.

"I am not going to confirm it but you know he has been on our target list for the last two windows.

"Read into that what you want. He has done very well (at Mainz)."

Pearson said City had accelerated their summer squad-building plans after the club secured their Premier League status last week.

The futures of the 10 players who will be out of contract have to be sorted out, and Pearson said they would be pursuing new recruits.

"It is an ongoing process," he said. "You can move a bit quicker when you know what division you are playing in.

"I've not ruled out any marquee signings. I can't answer how much we will spend on players.

"But we know the areas we're looking to improve on and we will be realisticicon1.png in terms of who we can bring into the football club.

"We've proved over a period of time there is a building process. The club remains aBUSINESSarrow-10x10.png that is capable of improving and expanding at the rate that is sustainable."

Pearson admits it could be a busy summer ahead but, after a gruelling campaign, he said it was important to get some rest.

"It is a busy time but you need time to recharge," he added.

"We always try to get our preparation as thorough as possible but it is only right to take time out from the day-to-day routine and pressures.

"I can assure you it does not need me to be at the sharp end all the time.

"Hopefully things can progress very well as we speak and we can do business sooner rather than later."

I wouldn't mind us signing the other player in that picture.

Pearson wouldn't have said that in a press conference if there wasn't concrete interest from us still, he never discloses dealings like that unless they are free transfers or a deal is close. Can see us wrapping this one up sooner rather than later if the rumours are true and we have been tracking him for this long, as they'll be keen to get it over the line!

Seems to have both pace and is a target man; plus experience at the top level.

Also - if he did sign, the club would get interest from Asian fans from that side of the globe; so probably a good idea as well in terms of increasing global fanbase.

That sounds to me like.

"I have given the club a list of targets you sort it while I fvck off for my hol's and I'll finish it off when I get back"

How come?

Don't try and change his mind, whenever DT says something like that they inevitably come in and score a million goals. He's literally wrong about everything.

Posted

They've already replaced him practically (with Muto), so it's just a case of how much they'll get for him now. Don't think many clubs will be queueing up to pay £8 million for him but his goals in a pretty gash team over the last two seasons make him worth a gamble. You want someone with a record in a decent league.

"He runs all day, pressures defenders, chases lost causes and makes things happen. In the penalty area"

Another Jamie Vardy? YES PLEASE.

The two of them together we are so just going to wear teams out if this comes off.

Hound players into mistakes and just never give the back 4 a rest.

Two vardy's would fvck up any defence.
