Fox92 Posted 17 May 2015 Posted 17 May 2015 Gerrard. Very complete footballer and at his very best he could do anything. Could have played for any side in the World.
Finchy Posted 17 May 2015 Posted 17 May 2015 Lampard without a doubt. People saying Gerrard has been dragged back by crap Liverpool teams are talking nonsense, he's played with some fantastic players at Liverpool and he's had a couple of great chances to win the Premier League. I also think it's pretty disrespectful to say Lampard has just had it easy in good Chelsea teams, for me Lampard and Terry were what made those Chelsea teams so great, his goalscoring record from midfield is outstanding. But yeah, both were amazing players and it's a shame England never really got the most out of them.
AKCJ Posted 17 May 2015 Posted 17 May 2015 I cant stand Gerrard despite his brilliance. Miserable bastard.
Kitchandro Posted 17 May 2015 Posted 17 May 2015 Gerrard by an absolute mile. Lampard always had the luxury of other players doing the dirty work for him, all he's ever had to do is bomb forward and score goals. That's not to say he wasn't a good player, or not very good at what he did, but his influence on the team as a whole is exaggerated. That's why he was always a failure for England, his role was totally different and he couldn't really play the complete midfielder game. But Gerrard was always a better tackler, passer and had a better engine. Plus, he almost single-handedly won Liverpool the Champions League and the FA Cup in successive seasons. That Liverpool team was absolutely gash and he dragged them from being utterly dead and buried to victory.
Finnegan Posted 17 May 2015 Posted 17 May 2015 How is this even a contest? I can only assume people are just put off by the recent Gerrard media hype. Lamps is a good goalscorer but Gerrard is a much better all round player, he's a match winner on his own. Lamps played in one of the best teams in premier league history, Gerrard played in a team that was largely mid table without him. That's the difference.
Mikey Posted 17 May 2015 Posted 17 May 2015 Gerrard but Lampard was still so, so good. Right now, Lampard is probably better but that's because Gerrards play is all-action type so obviously harder as he's got older. In that Champions League final when Gerrard had to play right back in the second half epitomises what he's been about.

So Gerrard is better because he chose to stay at a mid-table club when he could have played for a top club? I don't really understand this argument.
RedHux Posted 17 May 2015 Posted 17 May 2015 I would have most european midfield players over Gerrard, even given his golden period of two seasons where he looked like he might be good.

lavrentis Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 For me it boils down to who has the best nickname , so Lamps tops it
Jimothy Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 For me it boils down to who has the best nickname , so Lamps tops it Well in that case it's Cuchu who wins it.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 This one is more annoying than the Scholes vs Gerrard, Lampard for me
Fox92 Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Sky did a "best Premier League midfielder" poll other day and the only options were Gerrard, Scholes, Vieira, Keane and Toure. It's like if you didn't/don't play for a club you don't exist... Le Tissier, for example, should have been on it.

Jimothy Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 lol Le Tissier was an amazing player. Best midfielder in the Prem ever? No. Top 10. Definitely.
Guest Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 The way Gerrard consistently kept those long range shots down and on target was/is incredible.
Stadt Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 It's more the fact that it's difficult to be in the top 10 midfielders if you're a striker As it turns out he played in midfield and upfront according to wiki, apologies Fox92, although it'd be hard to suggest a striker/midfielder as one of the best midfielders
