Ollie93 Posted 26 May 2015 Posted 26 May 2015 I've been going since February - putting weight on is a lot harder than I thought for someone with my body. My arms are the only things I'm struggling to see a lot of difference in, though my mates say they have improved. I manage to match my mates on weights for arm exercises, just feel like it's taking an age to see any improvement. get myfitnesspal app, and log exactly what you eat. You'll be surprised how little you probably do eat.
areyounotentertained? Posted 26 May 2015 Posted 26 May 2015 Always toyed with the idea of joining the gym, say every month im gonna join. IGotta be honest and say im too scared of being judged by all regulars there though. I started going this year regularly. Honestly no one gives a **** about other people during your work out. No one will judge you
ousefox Posted 26 May 2015 Posted 26 May 2015 You need it more than once a day. Every meal has to be protein based in some way, then you have (good quality) protein shakes to top it up even more. Get plenty of meat, fish, peanut butter, oats, cottage cheese etc into your diet. From your previous post I guess you're on the slim side so just eat eat eat. People underestimate its importance. Sorry I meant to say Protein shakes once a day, but yeah I'll try get some more in! get myfitnesspal app, and log exactly what you eat. You'll be surprised how little you probably do eat. cheers will give that a go
theessexfox Posted 26 May 2015 Posted 26 May 2015 What's everyone's fave lift? Mine is deadlifts cos they are so badass. Also like pull ups but my hands are ****ed from them. Wear gloves. Been going for 6 months, pretty intimidating at first when there's all the massive guys everywhere and I'm just a kid but I get on with my own thing and reach my own targets.
Itsthejoeker Posted 26 May 2015 Posted 26 May 2015 Sorry I meant to say Protein shakes once a day, but yeah I'll try get some more in! cheers will give that a go If you're trying to put weight on id have two or three shakes a day with milk. Look at mass gainer powder too.

Stadt Posted 26 May 2015 Posted 26 May 2015 I could do with putting on weight, my build is pretty pathetic
SystonFox Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 I could do with putting on weight, my build is pretty pathetic Smash out some deads and squats. Wear a vest too

MooseBreath Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 I gave up on the gym when my local installed big speakers and neon lights. Sitting in a neon lit room listening to pop dance music at high volume while eyeing up shit sleeve tattood blokes pumping themselves up while wearing skin tight vests is only marginally less gay than actually wrapping your lips around a penis. So I do a lot more calisthenics these days at home or in the park. Thinking about joining David Lloyd or Bannatyne though, anyone know if those places are less homo than commercial gyms?
Collymore Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 Gyms are for the winter. With light until 10:30 pm, you can get yourself in tip top shape for free.

Just out of interest, what would your calisthenics work out look like? I'm at nuffield health atm, I can immagine they would be very similar. They are okay, but just depends what you want doesn't it?

Nothing too advanced, just various styles of press ups including archers and hand stands (wall assisted), pull ups, dips and bodyweight squats/lunges. Full body 2x or 3x per week. You can't put on as much mass with this kind of work out but i find it a lot more enjoyable
MrSpaM Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 Always toyed with the idea of joining the gym, say every month im gonna join. Gotta be honest and say im too scared of being judged by all regulars there though. There honestly is nothing to worry about, I think everybody thinks this before they go the first time tbh, and there is almost guaranteed to be people in there in worse shape than yourself. After the first time you really don't care any more
NewburyFox Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 Any sole fitness goers here? I'm usually on my own and workout on my own, although there's often people there I know. Apart from when it comes to needing a spotter, it's not a problem for me.
Rob1742 Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 If there are any old farts on here, and haven't made the move to go. Just go for it. I was the most unfit person in the world, went ooohh and arrghh when I went to sit down and had a bad back. Personal trainer three times a week changed all that and now I am fitter at 48 than I was in my 20's. The first three months were horrendous, but now it's great and I feel much better. Definitely not changed body shape in a big way, just feel much better, my back has improved and I must say it really is worth doing it. For me it's just about feeling better, and doing what I have done has certainly done that. So if you are an old fart, give it a go. It makes you feel different but go careful and I suggest a PT so you can work through a plan.
MrSpaM Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 Oh, and don't let the first couple of weeks put you off if you are planning on doing weights. I couldn't move my arms properly after the first few visits for days but it does ease off after a couple of weeks
Dipak83 Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 Looking to start going to the gym pretty soon with a mate. Ive not been for nearly 6 months. Cant believe ive put on 2 stone inbetween. Need to get back down to less than 13 stone.
Ollie93 Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 Currently pretty lean, probably sat around 16-17% bf. Got about 9-10 weeks to lose 5-6% which is do able, anyone got any tips, diet wise etc. Currently trying to carb cycle but anyone got any tried and tested methods?

I found keto was spot on for me just losing weight, started it again yesterday cause I have no discipline without strict rules in place. It really limits the processed shit I eat, keeps me sated and makes sure I drink lots of water. Also found myself much more energised throughout the day when I'm having under 20g carbohydrates. Not for everyone though, it's quite awkward if cooking with a partner/housemates and when eating out.

No need to over complicate it.
Finnegan Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 Always toyed with the idea of joining the gym, say every month im gonna join. Gotta be honest and say im too scared of being judged by all regulars there though. As someone who has issues with anxiety, especially in new places, I dreaded signing up to a gym and had a lot of similar reservations. Joined Pure on walnut street and got to be honest, worries went out the window almost immediately. A few gym heroes about a little too self satisfied but most people in there just in their own little bubble and couldn't give a **** what you're doing. Take a comfy pair of headphones that kill external sound and forget about everyone else. You'll find you're not even the least fit ior strong from the get go, there'll be everyone from frail looking women in their sixties to blokes in their forties that look like they've eaten twelve of you. Oh and usually a few slamming hot tarts that do zero hard work and just ponce about half arsed on the step machines looking for personal trainers to pose for.
Unabomber Posted 27 May 2015 Posted 27 May 2015 If anything people respect new guys at the gym who are trying to improve themselves.
