Dan Posted 23 February 2016 Posted 23 February 2016 They are same old Arsenal. They are no different to before. Don't be conned into thinking otherwise. They will not win the league or Champions League. Barcelona not even near their best and I'd say won that fairly comfortably. Arsenal average at best.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Did anyone watch the Juve vs Bayern game? Atkinson was ref and what a shit show that was
Footballwipe Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Matt will love the fact he might have been right after all these years of hatred. Honestly, the horrendous sense of entitlement from the Arsenal crowd is incredible. It's like every time a player is tackled it's a foul, unless it's their players doing the fouling. Hypocrisy ahoy. Col said it above, Arsenal have literally gotten no better in the last six/seven years. Wenger peaked in 04, got another high in 06 but since then has been meandering guff (especially for the money Arsenal fans pay) If anyone else had finished in the UCL and league like Wenger has they'd have made a change a long time ago. The longer he stays there the more pressure he puts on a successor, a la Ferguson (and any manager who is leaving a long-term legacy) Barca look incredible, at the risk of sounding small time if we make the UCL next season and drew them it would be a pleasure to play them in a competitive game in the biggest European competition, it'd be stuff of dreams. The best thing about that front trio is the pure love and camaraderie they have with each other; there's no fractured relationships, no desperation to out-do each other. Wonderful.
katieakita Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Loved the bit when Arsene said he was disappointed that they did not push on when they were dominating, not quite sure what he deems to be dominating, Barcelona were just another level and when Arsenal committed it was always fearful that Barcelona would score on the counter. Not quite sure what Arsene's game plan will be for the 2nd leg
goose2010 Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 I cant believe how Barca controlled Arsenal so well, they took it down to walking football so often and then the explosiveness of the front 3 ripped Arsenal to shreds. Suarez had an off night and could easily scored a hat trick, Messi was also quite in the first half but Arsenal just showed a lack of discipline in the second half Ramsey and the Coq were out on their feet and they just got steam rolled through the middle, It was an impressive performance by Barca but they didn't get out of second gear. Could be a 5-6 nil aggregate score I think. Anyone else wondering how we would compare to the likes of Barca? Last night when I was watching I was like Vardy would of bagged that when the Ox missed basically an open goal and was thinking no way would our midfield of got caught on the brake like Arsenal's did on their first goal! All I can think is next season (if this season finishes well) is going to be truly awesome!
ScouseFox Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 coquelin was awful last night. 2 tackles and 1 interception, hardly any passes and never involved. didn't even know he was playing until he got subbed off because he'd spent the whole second half breathing out his arse. arsenal as a whole were really bad. oxlade chamberlain's defensive actions in the first half were pretty much the only good thing any of them did all game bar cech making a few saves. as said above, couldn't believe how over excited the commentators and reporters were getting at 0-0, barcelona barely even tried and as soon as they decided they were going to win they won. from 40 minutes onwards it could and probably should have been 5 or 6-0. suarez has made barcelona a much more enjoyable team to watch. not boring at all anymore because he wants to score all the time.
Dan Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Sanchez and Ozil both completely anonymous last night as well. Busquets is a super player.
LCFC FOX Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 I still believe Chelsea are the best team in England. Just had a blip season. Who ever they have in charge next season will get top 2. I think they'll do PSG as well.
Carl the Llama Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Arsenal used to be my 'Premier League team' back in the days of Song, Fabregas, Nasri, & Van Perise . What a team that was and how jealous it made me. You look at their squad now and Ozil and Sanchez are the only ones I'd happily take off them, Theo I'd be ok with too because he seems like a genuinely nice chap but he'd have to settle for a spot on the bench.
ScouseFox Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 ive always loved arsenal. henry, ljungberg, pires, sol campbell, ashley cole, sylvain wiltord, rvp, theo, jens lehmann, cesc, arshavin, eboue, so so so many boss players mixed with funny players perfectly. not to mention king of them all tommy rosicky. their fans are clearly quegs but come on stand back and appreciate them players and that. upsetting that their current bunch appear to be class A melts.

Guest Col city fan Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Graham Hunter made a great point this morning on the radio. Statistically, those teams who have sat back, defended quite deep and looked to hit Barcelona on the counter have very rarely fared well. They have conceded more points and lost more games when the opposition have 'had a go' and looked to press them quickly and get in behind their shaky defence. Wenger last night played, at least statistically, right into their hands. I genuinely beleive a full strength Leicester side could have given Barce more problems last night. I'm sure we'd have conceded against them (who doesn't?) but I think we'd have scored a couple ourselves. Arsenal get the biggest revenue through the turnstiles of any club on the planet. To still be playing the likes of Mertesacker, Giroud and bringing on Flamini, after all these years, is very very poor. It's no wonder many of the whinging, whining Arsenal fans want a change at the helm.

Guest Col city fan Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Ha cmon we would of scored a couple against barca? Talk your homer glasses off dude. Genuinely think we would. At home, playing the way we do is exactly the style of play Barcelona are least happy with. If it's good enough for an expert on Latin football, I tend to agree with him.

If it's good enough for an expert on Latin football, I tend to agree with him. Barca concede to some awful teams away from home in La Liga. However, we'd be lucky to see 10% of the ball, so I'm not sure we'd play the same as we do. It'd probably be how we spent the rest of the Arsenal game after we went down to 10 men.

Really?Quite frankly we aren't on their level and even if we somehow got them on the counter they are very smart defensively. Keeping out MSN is impossible for 90 mins. If they got a 70% procession against Arsenal lord knows how much they would have with us.

I'm saying I think we'd have given them more of a problem than Arsenal did and would be more likely to score..yes. As I said, Barcelona do not do as well against sides who play a pressing game. Statistically. Arsenal went about them all wrong last night.

Pressing is the last thing teams should do against barca. All that does is create more space for their superstars to get you on the counter.Sure it can work at times like it did for Malaga but there's a reason Arsenal didn't press and if they did they would of given up more goals like Barca's first goal. You need to have the team to press and it's very rare it happens. It's why barca dominate the ball so much. Pressing is never a really smart idea against this team.
Dan Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Their attacking trio will pick you off eventually anyway. Arsenal nullified it for most of the game but once slight lapse and they've chucked away their minimal chance. I'm with Col. I'd actually back us to score. We would lose, but it would probably be 1-3 rather than 0-2.

Arsenal don't press them because they haven't got the players to. Not a surprise that most La Liga sides would be better prepared for Barcelona than Arsenal will, although Arsenal just petered out into nothingness in the end. Celta Vigo beat Barcelona 4-1 this season. Despite their attack, they are still not entirely convincing at the back.

Mate, I'll make this the last post on the subject, but you aren't reading what I'm writing? These aren't MY views. They are the views of the very well travelled, well respected South American and Spanish football correspondent, Graham Hunter. A man who watches Barcelona for a living. And, backed up by all the stats and the facts and figures, the best way to get any sort of result against this Barcelona side over the past few years has been to play a pressing game, get them on the back foot as much as possible, accept that they will score, but give yourself the best opportunity to score yourself. Wenger didn't do that. And now they go away to Barcelona, two down, without a goal scored at home and basically look completely void of any chance. Not my views...Hunter's..
FireFox Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Dragovic playing! I hope to see him do well but not too well. C'mon Man City.
Nalis Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 I genuinely want Man City to do well in the Champions League. If it negates their league form then its a bonus.
LCFC FOX Posted 24 February 2016 Posted 24 February 2016 Of course they're not. Arsenal are better than Chelsea and so are we. The table doesn't lie, and neither does a 38/40 game season. we've been better this season no doubt. But overall I still believe they're the best team in the league with the squad they have
