FoxPride Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 7 Million pound bid placed for the Stoke players' and supporters' player of the year. Looking possible with his new contract rejected.
Haydos Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Would think he'd cost closer to £10m, also a step down for him. Would be a great signing if we managed to pull it off.
sphericalfox Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Who knows what the story is at Stoke. They haven't spent much over the last few years preferring a low spend/ high-ish wage budget, and maybe to do so need to cash in. With Nzonzi not willing to sign whatever contract they put in front of him and perhaps knowing there'll be a repeat of investment, he's willing to go where there's a little more ambition and little more cash on the go
Bert Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Smokescreen bid to get someone else in quick I think, could be way off but just have an inkling.
MPH Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Ok Rudkin... now is your chance to make a name for yourself in the football director/ chief transfer negociater world.... Go get 'em tiger!!!
Banks Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 you're a ****ing moron if you think Stoke are bigger than us. Okay, they're now an established Premier League side but we're still a bigger club than them. They've spent the majority of their years in League One...

Who is a bigger club is a really pointless argument, especially as neither of us are big clubs. But Stoke are a much more attractive proposition for almost any professional footballer right now.

Renart Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 hmm any competition lawyers on here getting bit twitchy about these suggestions of collusion? Spoke to a friend about this (his field) and he said that In competition law, strange as it seems, Stoke and Sevilla are rivals. However, since the market is large enough he doesn't think there is a competition problem. Competition law would be worried if, because the price of the player went up, Sevilla had trouble finding another player. However, that usually doesn't happen in labour markets but can happen in markets where the input is limited. Sevilla would have to make the case that they couldn't get another player for that position. It is a large bidding market and, therefore, there is likely to be an alternative. However, he did say that there might be a case under 'unfair competition' though. Unfair competition is concerned with people respecting good uses of trade like not cheating, making false advertisements, etc. and there might be some UEFA rules against this sort of thing and if so that is unfair competition "law".Therefore, unfair competition is about people playing nicely and competition law is about the market reaching the best outcome, no matter who gets hurt. What I would read into that is that competition law would not be interested, but, if it was provable that Stoke and Leicester broke an established rule, UEFA might not look at it very kindly. However, I wouldn't know about those rules and it would be pretty difficult to prove. I think that makes sense.

Corky Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Who gives a toss whether a club is bigger or not? Currently their team is better than ours. N'Zonzi wants to move to a better team than Stoke. He won't be coming here. Let's move on.
themistocles Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 I'm going off the fact they've been basically sat there since being promoted 7 years ago.... I'm sure if they had plans on buying players to push them onto that next level in the next couple of seasons nzonzi would probably sit tight and sign a new contract, this is all my opinion of course Ofcource you are untitled to your own opinion, however the only reason we Havnt spent any money in 4 windows is we have had to get rid of the rubbish/overpriced players pulis bought (palacious Shea ect). That hasn't ment we Havnt brought it quality ( bojan, douif ect). This summer will be a different story with coats promising Hughes money to spend exqmpled by our pursuit of konopilanka. Why you think any team are content in not improving is beyond me

I'm sure if they had plans on buying players to push them onto that next level in the next couple of seasons nzonzi would probably sit tight and sign a new contract, this is all my opinion of course pretty harsh, they've been to a cup final, been in Europe and have slowly but surely started to transform the way they play, whilst all the while moving up the table. they're a pretty tidy model to follow in "establishing" yourself, and are now looking to push for that Europa league spot that seemingly nobody else wants. unless something goes wrong (badly wrong) relegation worries are a distant memory to them. they are presumably aiming for the "next level", but as I've tried saying in our new stadium thread, there's a huge gap to that level, it's not gonna be bridged in a year or two.

I don't see us, without serious investment and a thriving Academy, breaking into the top 7 so 8th will be our limit. Stoke have gradually built a good squad and now have a better manager than they had before. Hopefully we won't need to change manager but they are the template we should be looking at.
4everfox Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 And the award for this years James McArthur goes to...
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 At least that was someone who'd come to the end of his contract and had stated an interest in coming to the Premier League. Nzonzi's said he wants to challenge himself in European competition. Unless Nige has convinced him we're aiming for at least the Europa League this season yes
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Quality player. Most exciting transfer in a long time IF this one comes off.

Don't get me wrong my original post was in no way having a pop at Stoke I'd love to see us in a similar situation in a few years, I was just basically saying the only chance we'd have of getting him would be if he bought in to our chairmans ambition of being a top 6 club in a few years, they obviously realise it would take massive investment to get to that point but who knows
