we signed Steve Walsh.

Can you believe it is nearly 30 years ago??

The best £100,000 spent by the club?

I was 15 - could have sworn I was younger than that - from Wigan!

Not bothering with the whole "legend" post because it's fairly obvious. Played a part in and scored some of our most important goals. £100,000 was a bargain and must be one of our greatest transfers ever.

Probably my favourite ever Leicester player. Way he was shown the exit door and made a fool of was nothing short of disgraceful. Pleased that he's stuck around and kept the club in his heart.

Don't think there's anything at the club he didn't ruin.

Anyone that hero worships Walsh clearly didnt see him at his "finest".  For every goal he scored and point he won there were 2 or 3 the other way.

Oh how we laughed at Middlesboro as the sixth went in because that overrated donkey had lamped someone and got himself sent off.

What a giggle it was to see him banned for 9  or 11 (depending on who you believe) matches for "poor discipline" which included an attempt to ram David Geddis's jaw through the back of his head and left him eating through a straw for some time.

Oh, what memories.

He was a thug, simple as....

The most iconic player in our history.

Really?

Me thinks some may feel Weller, Worthington, Shilton, Lineker, Duncan, Chandler, Rowley and others may be ahead of a one footed 2nd division centre half come centre forward.

Wow, never thought I'd hear a fellow Leicester fan talk about Walshie like that - I'm shocked.

My memories of him are scoring two against Derby and getting us back up to the promised land after years of waiting. And lifting the League Cup in the replay at Hillsborough.

He was never the most gifted on the ball but was always 100% committed and gave everything to the cause. A great leader and a Leicester legend. End of.

Beg to differ.

I saw most of the games he played, home and away.

One footed, poor and an out and out thug.  His record speaks for itself.

Yep he scored in a play off final.   However he didn't play for much of the season due to a knee injury, maybe if he'd played more games we'd have finished in the top 2 or more likely not got anywhere near the playoffs.

He was captain when we lost the league cup final to spurs. The stuff of legends?

The more time that passes since his retirement, the better player he was.  I for one remember the cries of "Blue, we play in blue" every time Walsh got the ball and hoofed it aimlessly at any opposition player.

His wikipedia entry states he "set up Emile Heskey's goal in the first game and Steve Claridge's winner in the replay" proof that he did indeed manage to pass to a teammate at least twice in his entire career.

Emperors new clothes anyone?

Obvious un-subtle trolling, you just bored or something?

Tbf. I do kind of agree that Walsh is a long long way from being the most iconic player in the club's history or anythng. He scored some important goals and was and a great servant but I do agree he cost us about as much as he won us and some of his red cards and calamity moments were absolutely ridiculous.

He was a committed player and I love him but I don't think he was actually that good and most of his great moments were in the 2nd tier. He may have been part of a League Cup winning side but he was also part of sides which struggled near the foot of the Second tier where he was often awful and he needed a good defensive partner or two most've the time who could mop up when he inevitably gave the ball away (in a similar way Morgan performed far better this season when Huth came in).

Matt Elliott was certainly a far better actual player and defender than him, Gerry Taggart probably was as well. In reality as an actual defender he was about at the same level of Wes Morgan. Of course he has more great moments and played here for many years and clearly loves the club, but I do think people seem to overrate his actual ability more and more as years go by. I've seen some people on forums say things like "he should've played for England" before which is just utterly daft.

He was a good second tier centre back and a capable Premier League centre back, who loved the club and gave us some great moments but let's not get ahead of our station with the "most iconic player in the club's history" stuff.

I've always liked Walsh, and every manager upto taylor put him in the team so not all bad, I can remember some of the stick he used to get but that was in poor teams with players like scary Cary and inadequate managers. O'Neill (Little deserves some credit here as well) however turned him into the player most people remember him for, he became a solid reliable player who established himself in a tougher premier league than today, he put an end to his 'thugish' moments and led the club to play off and cup finals in one of the most successful periods in the clubs history. And in the process turned the jeers into cheers as like a fine wine he matured. For this he is a club legend.

And taylor is a ****, we spoke to Walsh in a pub in Leicester after a match once (taylors reign) and asked why we don't see him down the city and he said that taylor banned him from the club.
