FireFox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 So I couldn't sleep (too depressed about Pearson) and decided to figure out the goal difference the team had for when each player was on the pitch this season (including League and FA Cup matches). Obviously statistics like this don't tell the whole story, but there were some interesting results nevertheless. Make of it what you will. Played over 1000 minutes: +15 == Albrighton+10 == Huth+2 === King-1 === Schmeichel-2 === Wasilewski-3 === Ulloa-4 === Nugent-4 === Schlupp-5 === Mahrez-5 === Cambiasso-5 === Vardy-7* == Morgan-8 === James-9 === De Laet-10 == Simpson-10 == Drinkwater-18 == Konchesky *I consider Morgan "on the pitch" after being sent off at home to Liverpool, resulting in -1 for his GD even though he was not technically on the pitch when the last goal goes in. +11 == Schmeichel (after injury) -12 == Schmeichel (before injury) Played under 1000 minutes: +1 === Lawrence 0 ==== Hammond -1 === Knockaert -1 === Powell-1 === Pearson-1 === Cain-1 === Watson -2 === Hamer -2 === Taylor-Fletcher -3 === Wood -4 === Kramaric -6 === Schwarzer -6 === Upson -8 === Moore
TheMightySystem Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 I suppose though Konch appears bad as the majority of his game time was during a period when everyone played below par. During our good run at the end of the season (Bar chelsea) Schlupp was in the Lb/Lwb role over him I think may be wrong. Not saying he is good mind just that it is a factor to consider before people use this as evidence that he is the worst Lb to ever play ever Also he got 3 points against Villa
Stadt Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Konchesky is shite, probably the worst left back in the premier league last season
ScouseFox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Konchesky is shite, probably the worst left back in the premier league last season not even the worst left back in our squad
Fox92 Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Had a good career Konchesky, played for a few big clubs as well as his Country, but nowadays I don't rate him. Lacks pace which is a massive issue in the full back position.
Stadt Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 not even the worst left back in our squadSchlupp isn't a left back though
Corky Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Konchesky is shite, probably the worst left back in the premier league last season Yun for QPR was worse than our Konch.

We could've played all week and Villa wouldn't have scored.
FireFox Posted 12 July 2015 Author Posted 12 July 2015 Edited the original post to split up the players into two lists based on if they played over or under 1000 minutes. (I'm unsure if Liam Moore played more than a 1000 or not.) Although I don't agree with the "ranking" this gives, I do think Konchesky was our worst player (who played 1000+ minutes), Simpson our 2nd worst, Albrighton was our best player, and Huth 2nd best.
Stadt Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Yun for QPR was worse than our Konch.Nah Asians don't count(As in a similar vein to cup goals don't count)
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Konch back pass at West Ham was his worst thing
sdb Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Interesting stuff! Re watching the season highlights it doesn't take any fancy stats to highlight how out of his depth Konchesky now is though. Really hope the new manager doesn't rate him.
Phube Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Told you, Albrighton by far the most important player in our run!

Really hope the new manager doesn't rate him. Hoping Chilwell will be given a chance ahead of Konchesky. Was so happy to see he was off to Austria. (Also would rather have RDL at LB than Konchesky if the new manager doesn't want to test Chilwell.) Told you, Albrighton by far the most important player in our run! Completely agree. People say how it was Huth, but until Albrighton came into the side, we were still not looking good enough. I actually decided to do this because a while ago I calculated Albrighton's just out of curiosity. Decided to figure out the rest to properly compare.
thursday_next Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 I don't think Albrighton was not in the side due to Pearson's stubbornness or any other factors, but due to the fact that he had to be made fit enough to undertake the wing-back's role. It didn't work with de Laet and Albrighton, not without losing a midfielder. Once Pearson switched to three at the back, thanks to Huth, it was obvious that Albrighton had to be there. I'm sure I read this at the time, and it seemed most likely of all the theories.
lgfualol Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 God, if our new manager comes in and sticks Konch in the starting 11 I'm going to go mad.
Bayfox Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 So konch was in the side during a poor run. So was wes and let's be honest the fact wes was in the side for the good run owes nothing to him and a lot to nige refusing to drop him and huth, cambiasso and kasper deciding to show up.

Would you have rather had Moore or RDL in the back 3?But yes, this doesn't completely, accurately rank the players. I think though, with the exceptions of Nugent over Vardy and maybe King over James, the top 11 players in this ranking who would fit in any formation, which in this case would be the 3-4-1-2, that does make up our most successful side.
