Kitchandro Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 I don't know what to expect. I have no idea what the manager will do with this team. However, we finished 14th last season and decided to replace the manager, for whatever reason. Therefore, we should be demanding an improvement on that.I hope Ranieri realises he needs to take the cups seriously, because if he doesn't, the pressure is on to at least finish in the top half. People will settle for lower midtable safety if we make a serious challenge to win the FA Cup. But most importantly at all for me, is that we try to win every game and try to score goals. I will appreciate that mentality, and it should serve us well. I don't expect us to win anything, but it's the attempt to do the right things in the right way which is important.
Big_Nige Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Pre Sacking I would have said carry on from where we left off, although a more consistent season, hovering around 12th-15th without being in any real danger. A cup run would be nice. Post-sacking I want the same, but a part of me wants better now, but only to justify the decision. If Ranieri does 'lead us into the next phase of our long-term plan' then fantastic, but I'm sceptical. Good luck Claudio.
Kent Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Personal expectations are (relatively) comfortable survival, but with more consistent results. Let's establish ourselves for 2/3 years first.
chicagofox Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 A poor run of form means Ranieri is sacked, we bring in a successful Championship manager and just manage to stay up. Nothing of note in the cup competitions. But our owners don't have a history of sacking managers after a poor run of form.
RedSoxUK Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Expectation is 17th this time around, goal will obviously be to push on, 12th isn't out of our reach if we miss a terrible run. But 17th.
Wymsey Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Is he a better manager than Koeman, Martinez, Hughes and Bilic?; I actually think he is and my head says we could finish around the 8th/9/10th mark. However, heart says 13/14th as I think we'll do well at the start then fall down and do a sprint at the end again.
coolhandfox Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 If we invest on a couple more quality players, I could see middle table between 12th and 10th! I don't think the tinkerman will survive the owner's axe if we achieve anything less.
Heymister2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 With Nigel in charge comfortable mid table! With the circus in town 'AGAIN' because the owners havent learnt there lesson! relegation scrap!
RedSoxUK Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 With Nigel in charge comfortable mid table! With the circus in town 'AGAIN' because the owners havent learnt there lesson! relegation scrap! Historically, this doesn't stack up. Pearson was involved in a relegation scrap, what makes him being in charge in our current state any different than CR in our current state, meaning CR will ultimately get us into a relegation scrap and Pearson not. If the team isn't prepared enough, skilled enough, or score enough, then no Mourinho will keep them away from a scrap at the end of the day.
Guest Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 I'm hoping for a mid-table finish. We finished 14th last season despite 4-5 months of misery so hoping for another bit of progress.. somewhere between 9th and 13th.
leicesterseddon Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Really not sure any more, there are too many unknowns. Many on here seem to have come to the conclusion that Ranieri has been brought in because the owners weren't happy with our finish last season (i.e. 14th) and wanted to bring in someone who could take us higher. I'm not sure that's the case. For once, I'm actually prepared to believe the reason given by the owners, namely that their working relationship had broken down (which presumably has some link to the JP incident or his behaviour over the season). It's not necessarily true that they were unhappy with our league finish last year, nor that they didn't have confidence in Pearson to take us up the league. In fact, the whole dismissal & our subsequent attempt to replace NP to me suggest the opposite: this was not a well thought-out coup, but simply the result of circumstances that went sour, leading to a panicky scramble to find a replacement. With that in mind, my expectations for this season are to finish vaguely where we did last year - i.e. around 14th. I don't think we should expect higher than that (at least not yet) because Ranieri will need time to make his mark on the squad. But finishing lower (and especially around the zone) would not be acceptable either, because I think the players he's inheriting were better than that. Finally, let's not look back at the season with NP-tinted glasses. The guy was clearly an excellent man-manager and the team continued to fight for him even when we were dogshite. However, it's also true that for most of the season it was clear that a reasonably capable squad were being held back by his lack of direction and tactical nous in the PL. Too many seem to be forgetting the ridiculous team selections, the continual chopping and changing with the formation, playing 5 at the back at home even when we needed points, playing Kramaric as a lone striker, etc, etc. In the end this was corrected - but only after one of the worst PL runs in history and our favourable fixture list allowed us to pick up points against sides that had little to play for by the end of the campaign. I for one would have been happy to see NP continue to improve as a PL manager - but for whatever reason, it's not going to happen. We need to just get behind the new man and move on.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Surviving comfortably would be classed as a successful season for me. Then we can continue to build. Top 10 would be even better if it's possible but if not secure survival in the BPL would still be very good.
EnglishOxide Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 The owners have put him into a position where he must drastically improve us to have made this entire episode worth it. There is no time to build or just survive. Pearson already did that. I expect us to finish 11th - 9th now. If we are 20th - 15th at Christmas I believe they will sack him.

Top 10 would be even better if it's possible but if not secure survival in the BPL would still be very good. This. Not being in the bottom three (or bottom) for months on end is progress. Intergration of the new players and the further development of Schlupp, James, Kram, Mahrez.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 The big bonus to this season is that the promoted sides in Watford, Norwich and Bournemouth will not have enough clout to significantly improve their squads, therefore I wouldn't expect us to get relegated. In fact, the early season fixtures appear to a bit kinder too, so I'd expect us to start off in a similar way to how Swansea did last - especially given CR doesn't have that much time to make whole sale squad changes, so the balance and unity of the side won't be completely effected. The key on how we finish after Christmas however will be what we do in that key January transfer window. That may well be the time when we need some extra bodies to cement a top 10 position, which is definitely possible. However, personally, I think we'd do ourselves a favour if we actually missed out on the Europa League this year as it would be a big ask trying to build sufficient squad quality and depth over the next 3 transfer windows (where as 5 gives us a chance).
EnglishOxide Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 They won't sack him if we're 15th at Christmas. We currently stand as the 14th best club in England. If it appears we are regressing then I believe they will.
gurru991 Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 I'm fine with avoiding the bottom six for the year, staying steady at 10 to 14 would be super. This is the toughest league in the world so any improvement is good.
Kent Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 We currently stand as the 14th best club in England. If it appears we are regressing then I believe they will. I get where you're coming from but chances are the gap between 14th and 15th at Christmas won't be that big. If we're 15th at Christmas and in shit form then maybe there would be a case, but if we're holding our own I just can't see it personally.
MC Prussian Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 My hopes/expectations for the upcoming season? - Not going down - Playing somewhat attractive football - Not having to endure another long dry spell like last season - Being more present in cup competitions (- Maybe qualifying for a European competition either through a cup competition (runners-up would already suffice) or via the fairplay rule)
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Given that Ranieri hasn't managed for years in the Premiership, he's inherited Pearson's squad AND the weight of expectation that goes with the job, avoiding relegation again has to be the start point. Anything else becomes a bonus. I doubt many will settle for less than 14th though.
themistocles Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 The amount of people expecting top 10 finish is laughable, literally scrapped relegation by the skin of our teeth in the first season in the Prem . You do realize it's taken the current top 10 years to break in ( Swansea, Stoke) and that's without being in a relegation scraps since they've been in the Prem and being in better positions then Leicester in their 2ND seasons. My whole family are Leicester city fans , and even though they are my second team I want all the best for them . Fans expecting top 10 finished arnt helping the club or the new manager. Establish yourselves first (2-3) years then push on to top 10 ( which I fully expect you to do so eventually).
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Stay up hopefully comfortably mid table and a good cup run
NeilLCFC Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 Expectations for this season: To get rid of Ranieri by October and bring Pearson back.
